New Wii U System Update Apparently Mentions The End Of Miiverse

It looks like Nintendo could soon be pulling the plug on Miiverse. The latest system update for Wii U, which went live a couple hours ago, apparently includes text that mentions the termination of the Nintendo-themed social network. “The Miiverse service has ended,” reads the unconfirmed note. “Miiverse and any software features that make use of Miiverse are now unavailable.” Nintendo has yet to make a formal announcement regarding the end of Miiverse, but stay tuned for official word.

  1. I would say good riddance, because Miiverse has bad administration, but this is going to mean the death of Super Mario Maker.

Let’s hope that this foreshadows a Switch port in the future.

      1. They ported it to 3DS at a time when the Switch wasn’t even announced, so of course they can port it over to the Switch. Yes, without a stylus it might not make as much sense, but if they really think about how to make the controls work, it would totally be possible. And after Mario maker would’ve been quite a success if the WiiU would’ve sold better, there’s a lot of potential for a Switch version.

But yes, the worse precision could also be a reason why it won’t be happening.

    1. Yeah. Poor admin and stupid kids turning Miiverse into Miiharmony, really ruined Miiverse. I used to be a regular simple Pixel Art drawer on Miiverse and my passion for doing that, just flew out of the window because these kids turned the Miiverse into the thing that I once loved, into a thing that I can’t even stand to look at.

    2. Good , I found miiverese to limited and as MrBreada said, the administration was terrible but as for a bit on the switch no thank you I may have one of those abominations but it doesn’t mean i want to play it

    1. I got a message from an Admin that I somehow violated the Miiverse code of conduct for making a Chris Jericho quote, that wasn’t even out of context, because wrestling quotes was the point of that particular quote. I got banned because of that, but disputed it immediately, went for a bath and by time I got out of the bathroom, I was unbanned.

      1. That level of curation on Nintendo’s part illustrates perfectly my point about the phone app.

It’s either Nintendo have chat features on the Switch and over-curate everything à la Miiverse, or they release an app on another device and disregard what’s being said or exchanged there, because kids should not be equipped with cellphones (in a world where parents are responsible).

They chose the latter as it is say easier to manage.

And Nintendo gets to be cheap instead of hiring actual human admins & mods for Miiverse like a normal company with a social media site/app does.

If Miiverse 2 means a better Miiverse than what’s on the Wii U, 3DS, & internet, I’ll gladly take it.

  2. Good riddance to that abomination too. I loved it at first, till I got permabanned for um, badmouthing Bayonetta for stealing Banjo & Kazooie’s spot in Smash Bros., then got my second user permabanned for defending some people against bullies. Those darn admins are just dumb idiot computers anyways, GLAD it’s dead. Thanks to Nintendo trusting social media sites now, Deviantart and Facebook are my Miiverse! GOOD BYE MIIVERSE, IT WAS NOT NICE KNOWING YOU!

Dumb idiot computers that Nintendo put in charge. So ultimately it’s because of dumb Nintendo developers that we got dumb idiot computers to police Miiverse. Blaming the machines & Miiverse doesn’t change the fact that NINTENDO are the ones that fucked up.

Well if this is true, I better just say fuck it & give out my Discord and/or PlayStation Network account name to the WWE group I’m part of on WWE so we can all find a new place to talk WWE on nights that WWE airs their major shows. What is Nintendo gonna do? Ban me!? xD Why bother if ya closing down Miiverse soon.

  4. It’s a shame they’re shutting down stuff on Wii U so quickly. I know it wasn’t the best feature but some games used it well so it’ll be sad for it to go. Hopefully Switch gets an improved version of it later.

If that is the plan, hopefully they tell us there will be a better version of Miiverse coming to Switch sometime this year or next year when they do close out this old version of Miiverse on Wii U, 3DS, & the internet.

  5. I’m gonna miss the drawings… and the Miiverse stage in Smash U is now just a Battlefield clone (since there will no longer be any more posts shown)

Also, isn’t Mario Maker supposed to use Miiverse to post levels? Does that mean we’ll no longer be able to make or play levels in Mario Maker??? Come on Nintendo!

  6. I met some lifelong friends on Miiverse, back when it was sorta a thing, before Nintendo began dismantling it years ago. Fortunately, I think I have most of anyone I care about’s contact info.

At least it wasn’t like Swapnote/ Letterbox when you just logged in one day and “Welp! Sorry! Hope you didn’t need a heads up to collect your friends info! Some perv sent a bad pic to a kid, so we decided to fuck you all over without warning.” I’m not jaded about that. nope.

But yeah, Miiverse died a slow death. It had so so much potential, but it was totally wasted. RIP

Miiverse was always doomed to get shut down at some point. (Least on Wii U & 3DS, anyway, if it still continues in some form somewhere else.) So even if this is a rumor & not true, it doesn’t matter as Miiverse will get shutdown at some point one them.

  7. I’m not too bothered if Miiverse lives or dies. I got permabanned far too long ago despite doing nothing against the rules. I think it might have been because I went on a reporting spree, trying to get rid of Pokemon hackers. But looking at the state of competitive Pokemon, I guess Nintendo is fine with hackers as long as they get people to watch the VGC.

  8. I like Miiverse, even despite the appalling updates and bad administrators.
In it’s hay day it was a fantastic playground of ideas and even now features some stunning artwork.
I’ll continue to use it and host an art event there til the day Nintendo pulls the plug.
I don’t own a Switch yet, but I hope by the time I do that there’s a better service integrated into it than the use of sites like Facebook as I don’t use it now, nor gave any interest in using it in the future.
Better a lame donkey than a dead horse
