The Nintendo Switch Online App launched today, but fans are concerned that it might not be of the quality that they expected. While Eurogamer is fairly positive about Splatnet, they are very critical of the remainder of the app. Setting up a multiplayer room in Splatoon 2 seems to be rather obnoxious and the voice chat features are half-hearted. For example, Splatnet voice chat will be disconnected if players exit the app or lock their phone. While a feedback option is available to send complaints to Nintendo, it seems that fans will be disappointed with the app when Splatoon 2 launches on the 21st.

Although I hate the app,I hope they at least fix these problems.
I loathe it with a passion but I hope the same for those that might actually want to use it.
But on the other hand, if this app ends up being a total trainwreck, it might deter Nintendo from doing it with the next system & then some of us can avoid at least one headache coming from Nintendo next time around.
Heh is anyone surprised? I mean it isn’t really ready at this point so of course there’s going to be issues. Just wait for Splatoon to launch and I’m pretty sure they’ll iron it then.

But if you’re playing the game, why do you need to switch apps on your phone? I get that it’s clunky, but it’s not really the end of the world.
With the N64, it was the infamous 3-pronged controller. With the GameCube, it was the handle. With the Wii, it was the having to plug controllers into controllers that was clunky. With the Wii U, the entire system was clunky along with various clunky controller schemes. With the Switch, the system is sleek, the controllers are not cumbersome, it is instead certain aspects of online play that are clunky. There are certain aspects of Nintendo that you just have to tolerate until they figure it out. When the Switch 2 comes out, all of these issues will be ironed out, but they’ll figure out something else to turn into a Rube Goldberg machine. It’s what they do.
Good point with the second paragraph. They’ll find something new with the next system to annoy the hell out of us with & make us scratch our heads wondering “what the fuck were they thinking!?”
Eh…never expect a perfect app at launch. Pokemon Go had similar problems with not tracking walked distances or notifying of nearby pokemon in sleep mode, as well as an issue with playing music in the background, but those ended up fixed.
Being critical in this beginning phase is still important to get that need for fixing across to them though. That’s exactly what the first free year of service was for. Working out the kinks and improving the system for the long-term with what is essentially just a beta test.
And they already delayed it with a reason. It won’t be perfect, but it gives them more time to fix the essentials.
After all, it’s not easy to setup a whole new network like this. as if psn or xbox live started flawlessly and never had a problem. it worked pretty much just fine when it was a free service. i don’t see a major problem coming up soon..

Might just stick with 3rd party voice chat services for a little longer.
Guess I’ll stick to discord until the proper release of the online app comes around sometime like uh.. next year?

Who didn’t see this blasphemy coming a mile away? Shame on you nintendo for not delivering what the fans truly want. Oh well, what’s one more generation of garbage online gaming from our favourite game company. We’ve waited 15 years for a xbox live equivalent I guess you can add at least 5 more before they get it right. I for one have zero faith they’ll rectify this bs this gen.
While I want this entire thing to turn into a total trainwreck, I also feel genuinely bad for those that might want to actually use it if it doesn’t get fixed. But if it doesn’t get fixed, it will hopefully mean better online stuff in the future as Nintendo realizes this thing should have been another option instead of being the ONLY option.
If it was one of many options, I wouldn’t give two shits about this entire debacle as I would have had an alternative, anyway, as I could simply use these features through the actual console. I mean, I am expected to pay for online so the least they could do is have the functions on the actual damn device THEY own.
Can we just see if the app works well with Splatoon 2?

Yeah. Apparently we are all a bunch of dumb stupid 4 year olds that need Daddy/Mommy Nintendo to watch over us, so an option for older teenagers & adults is out of the question.

First, you’ll need to head to the Online Lounge in Splatoon 2’s multiplayer area. From there, you’ll be prompted to create a room, and you can push a notification out to your phone. I see I made the right decision getting a PS4 on Prime day instead of saving for a Switch. I don’t need to buy a new phone to operate crucial features like playing video games with friends on a PS4.
Right, so on top of buying a Switch at increased UK prices, Nintendo expects me to spend that amount of money again on a new phone that might actually run the app this time? And all this comes after their big Parental Controls animated presentation. Is it too hard to disable voice chat through that?
