San Diego Comic-Con 2017 has begun, and news has already begun to surface from there. Udon Entertainment has confirmed that a new book called “The Art Of Shantae” is coming in 2018. Shantae (2002), Shantae: Risky’s Revenge (2010), Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse (2014), and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (2016) will all be included in the book. Never played one Shantae game and I want to play one. What you all suggest to play first?
I’ve only played Pirate’s Curse so far, but I enjoyed it. 1/2 Genie Hero is sitting on my shelf waiting for me to play it. They’re both available on pretty much every current system.
I saw on the 3DS eshop there are the first two Shantae games. Well there 4 Shantae games that not cost so much. But I want to play one Shantae game.

I’ve played all four, but it depends on what you like. The Shantae games, with the exception of the newest Half-genie Hero have all been metroidvania style games. The newest didn’t do that and, instead, made “levels” that you could clear. This was good in some ways and bad in others. It depends on how much you are into metroidvania games. Half-genie Hero is also pretty short, so it might not be enough to your liking. It’s a lot of fun, though, for sure. I’ve actually really enjoyed all of them and its hard to pick a favorite. However, if I had to, I’d probably say that Pirate’s Curse is my favorite. I will say, though, that if you want the original Shantae for the GBC, you’re going to have to get it on the eshop because it’s nearly impossible to buy the cartridge on ebay due to it being very rare. When I start playing a franchise, I usually start at the first one and work my way from there, but it’s up to you. Each one also has some interesting minigames to them, as well. Their stories are relatively connected, but they’re self-contained enough so that you can still enjoy any of them no matter where you start.
My suggestion if you don’t want to play all four from the beginning and just want to try one would be to try Pirates Curse and, if you like if, either check out Risky’s Revenge or Half-genie Hero. I’d recommend saving Half-genie Hero for last, though, once you’ve played the others since there are several nods to the previous games in Half-genie Hero. You really can’t go wrong wherever you start, though, as they’re all gems.

I played both Metroid and Castelvania 2D games. Which for me is fun to play.
Yeah I know there is the original first game on the eshop and probably I’ll start from that game because I want to play the first game.

I definitely recommend Pirate’s Curse! It might actually be a perfect game. Half-Genie Hero is really good too, but IMO the gameplay and level design are better in PC (but it’s definitely worth playing!). The first game shows its age but is still pretty solid. Haven’t played Risky’s Revenge yet, so no comment there.
