Niantic Has Released A Statement On Pokemon GO Fest’s Problems

Today at Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago, technical issues created problems for a large number of players attending the event. From everyone at Niantic, we apologize to all of the Trainers who came out to Pokémon GO Fest today. Although we were able to solve many of the technical issues, we were not able to offer every attendee a great experience.

Niantic is taking the following steps immediately:

  • All registered attendees will soon receive an email with instructions on how to receive a full refund for the cost of their ticket. These instructions will be sent to the email addresses associated with your Pokémon GO account.
  • All registered attendees will receive $100 in PokéCoins in their Pokémon GO account.
  • Special Pokémon, Eggs, and check-in PokéStops appearing during Pokémon GO Fest have had their range increased to a two mile radius surrounding Grant Park through Monday morning, July 24. These Pokémon and Eggs will only be visible to Pokémon GO Fest attendees who validated the QR code they received when they entered Pokémon GO Fest. Attendees who were unable to validate their QR code during the event can do so through the special PokéStops through Monday morning.
  • All registered attendees will have the Legendary Pokémon, Lugia, added to their account.

We appreciate the patience of all the Trainers who joined us in Chicago this weekend. We will strive to make sure our experiences are of the highest quality going forward.

    1. I felt bad as well. But I think that attendees are being compensated well. $100??? The incubators you could buy with that! Not to mention a Lugia? Wowza!

  1. That’s bullshit that you’re going to give people without common sense Lugia for waiting in line and experiencing server problems. 1. When there’s a massive group of people for an event there’s going to be waiting in line period you guys are idiots. 2. when you have that any people one a server guess what it crashes. isn’t it their job to know that? How about you give everyone a legendary not just the idiots that waited and complained knowing what was going to happen.

    1. Yes exactly! Those attendees are to eager to get Pokémon such as Lugia or Mewtwo that they don’t relieze that one server cannot handle so many devices at once! I blame those greedy Internet Service Providers for not updating their connections!

  2. They said Articuno is next, then Zapdos and Moltres. But they forgot a Legendary, THE Legendary, the most well known one himself, Mewtwo! What about Mewtwo?!

  3. I feel bad for them. They’ve had years of successful Ingress Anomaly party/fest/events, and their very first one for Pokemon Go ends up being a disaster and a half.

  4. Being unable to acquire tickets to the sold out event, I was inquiring as to whether locals as myself would be able to come downtown and catch some of the rare spawns as Unown and Heracross?

  6. Couldn’t handle tons of people using their app when it first started. Couldn’t handle tons of people using their app at their own fest. Apparently, Niantic is only good in small groups. I hope they’ve finally learned their lesson and actually plan ahead next time to make sure they have plenty of servers available. or at least fro fests, limit how many can log onto a server at any given time, easing the load.
