Hard Mode And Other Metroid: Samus Returns Features Locked Behind Amiibo

Metroid: Samus Returns is compatible with a handful of Nintendo’s amiibo figures. Although their functionality was confirmed last week, Nintendo have now clarified that everything they unlock can only be accessed via the figure. This means that the Hard Mode, Art Gallery and Music Player will only be playable after Metroid fans have bought the amiibo. Some fans are obviously disappointed with this announcement, but it does mean the figurines certainly have some fleshed out functionality within the game.

  1. Then they should make an enormous amount of stock for the amiibo for Metroid fans to get their hands on. Otherwise this is absurd. I don’t play Metroid myself, but I feel for the fanbase. Many gamers love a hard mode. So it’s blocked off behind a toy that is limited in supply, that will certainly cause a lot of grief. Personally I hate all aspects of DLC (not just Nintendo, all the developers), but that’s just me.

I love DLC but this is just bullshit. If ya gonna lock DLC behind a damn figure, at least make sure the damn thing has plenty of fucking stock. Leave it to Shitendo to do something everyone else does but fucking worse. *glares right at the switch online app where voice chat is locked behind & now the amiibo with shit locked to them that I can’t get because they didn’t stock them right* I now have a love/hate relationship with amiibo. Leave it to them to pull that off. -.-

      1. I don’t know why they would do this. They have to know it’s going to piss off all the fans who can’t get the amiibo and thus can’t get the hard mode DLC.

  2. While I’m very disappointed in nintendo, I fear that the inevitable backlash will cause the game to sell horribly and then metroid’s future could once again be in deep water. It sucks because if we buy the game and want the modes badly enough then we’re supporting bad practices but if we don’t support this game and prime 4 (if 4 does a similar thing) then metroid will likely die :(

    1. I’m not actually too worried about that. Twilight Princes HD did the same thing and it still sold okay, despite being on the Wii U. Breath of the Wild also put the hard mode behind a DLC and sold amazingly. I don’t think that will prevent too many people from buying the game.

  3. That blows. I’m done with amiibo. I’m in the process of selling mine off. Up to now they’ve just been taking up space. Why can’t Nintendo at least have an option to pay for the content without buying the figure?

  4. I’m all for Bonuses being unlockable with Amiibo but Hard Mode? seriously? that is extremely lame.

As it happens Idc about Hard Mode in a Metroid game but a lot of people do and IMHO this is giving those players the middle finger.

  5. Okay, this is the kind of content that should NOT be locked behind amiibo. Unlock hard mode, gallery, and sound test by finishing a game once? Fine, that’s how it has been for years. Keep them hidden behind exterior sources that cost additional coin and not everyone could get them?

    WRONG!

Games like Smash Bros., Mario Maker, Fire Emblem Fates, Splatoon, hell, even Codename: STEAM used amiibo in decent to good ways. This is not one of them.

  6. Games require too much dlc and net play and it’s ruining gaming… Go back to old days were no dlc and games have online multiplayer yes but it can also all be done offline and everything is unlocked in game

  7. Well, if I don’t get those super sexy Amiibo, there’s always NFC cards. My full set of Zelda NFC cards featuring every Zelda Amiibo cost $30. That is the price of 2 Amiibo. Since Metroid only has four Amiibo, it should be cheaper.

  8. And here we go with this Amiibo S!@$!!! Can’t find any of the BotW Link Amiibos to get those dumbass costumes without paying an arm and a leg for them, can’t find these new Metroid Amiibos because yjey’re already sold the F!@# out everywhere, and Nintendo is making it F!@#ing wore with the whole retail exclusive BULLS!@# in the states so now I can’t even get them from anywhere elese without A!@holes gouging the damn price, LIKE EBAY, AMAZON, AND GAMESTOP!!!
NINTENDO STOP MAKING THESE DAMN AMIIBO EXCLUSIVE TO CERTAIN STORES YOU F!@#ING TOOLS!!!

  9. This info may very well be misleading, If I remember right the translatd site said “A Higher difficulty Fusion Mode”, so Hard Mode may very well be unlockable in the main game. Just not Fusion mode which is hard mode but you play as Fusion Suit Samus!
Sure what im saying is speculation, but its scensical speculation.

*facepalms so hard he falls over backwards all anime like* This just gets better & fucking better, don’t it! Sure hard mode is locked behind DLC for BotW but least you don’t have to worry about stock shortages for that since that DLC is actual fucking digital & is readily available on the eShop.

My love relationship with amiibo has just turned into a love/hate relationship now! Thanks a lot, SHITENDO!!!

        ||This is exactly what the problem is with all of you, you can’t think ahead, this is one reason to why I never bought a single Amiibo and never will, same with the useless Mobile Infantry, and concerning the App for voice chat, I don’t even care either way…||
