Playtonic Says They’re Still Hard At Work On Yooka-Laylee For Switch

Yooka-Laylee has been a long time coming for Nintendo Switch owners, but developer Playtonic assures owners of Nintendo’s latest console that the game is progressing nicely. They hope to have some more news to share soon regarding when to expect the game and they thank the fans for their support.

      1. it just depends. The architectural barriers are small and stiff like Binding of Isaac or Shovel Knight is pretty easy to port. Even Snake Pass was working pretty well after one week.
These games could still have been way more work if the system wouldn’t be as easy to port to. But with games like Yookah Laylee there still co,es the additional challenge of the system’s performance and ressources and of course a more compelx game like YL or pretty much all AAA titles these days cannot just be downgraded with a single click. Or maybe they could. I guess it would be possible to just set all textures of YL to ‘shit’, reduce the drawing distance and it would run quite good. But then it wouldn’t really run as good as it could run and wouldn’t deliver the best possible experience. And that’s what devs are struggling with. But for the sake of playing that stuff on a portable device, it’s still an extra mile worth walking. So yeah, with games like yl or Rime, it will never be that easy but if the devs then manage to deliver a product that feels pretty similar to what’s going on on the competition’s systems, I believe it’s worth waiting.

  1. Can’t wait for the Switch Version!!! I have full confidence that Playtonic Games will give us an incredible port of Yooka-Laylee onto the Switch!

    1. I hope so, because Playtonic did say the Wii U version was going to be the one they would work on the hardest before they decided to release it for the Switch instead.

If anything I hope it’s actually a huge improvement from the PS4 and XBOX One versions (not on a graphical standpoint however).

  2. }{ This game perfectly exemplifies the situation all Nintendo users are in right now… Waiting twice as long for the exact same thing… In the time you’ve wasted waiting for this game, I’ve already beaten it and moved on… }{

    1. You act as if the system has been out just as long as the others. It hasn’t. Complain about that kind of thing in a year if 3rd parties don’t get it together. Its barely been out for six months geez.

      1. You know there’s a think called a charger right? Every portable device uses one, at least I’ll get some sunlight while I’m out playing, unlike you who’ll be stuck inside pale as can be PC Troller Sid.

      2. And besides, 3 hours is good for the Switch, have you tried using a cell phone for 3 hours straight, it doesn’t go too well. There are workarounds to it too like extended battery clips, portable chargers, and a whole lot more on top of that.

      3. I use my Switch primarily as a portable and have not once ran into a battery issue. I tend to run at half brightness which may help, and I don’t game for 6 hours straight nowadays with children and such. If I was taking it travelling, that’s what portable chargers are for I guess? I may just have realistic expectations for battery life on this caliber of gaming because I’m used to powerful gaming tablets in this price range being comparable. As for release, a handful of Switch games are being released after initial dates because the dev kits were only released mid development cycle, so I’m not sure why someone would not get that. I can’t tell if kids these days really thrive on this kind of negativity or this whole website’s comment section is one schizophrenic role player acting out 10 different characters (in which case kudos to the commitment to the bit).

    2. Other consoles are a perfect example of a stationary lifestyle. I personally don’t have time to play games tethered to the TV in my home. The switch allows a versatility not available with other consoles. This makes it worth the wait for me.

    3. notIm not buying that trash regardless of platform. The only 3rd party games i want to get rn are redout and fate extella because portable

    1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

      ||It’s irrelevant now, much time has passed, it is just not important anymore…||

        1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

          ||And the fact that it was released on non-Nintendo machines first which is blasphemous by default…||

  3. It’s getting to the point where most people will pass on it in favor of Mario Odyssey. They really had a chance if only they released it sooner.

    1. No. We NEED a new platformer IP. Sonic hasn’t returned to Adventure-quality standards, Mega Man is dead, Pac-Man (World) is severly ignored, Crash (N’ Sane Trilogy) is still Sony-exclusive, indie games are just meh retro-pandering, and we don’t see anymore if those one-shot titles from the SNES, N64, and Gamecube eras anymore (the ones many of us used to rent from Blockbuster).

What better new IP than a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie.

      1. Too bad reviews were mixed and it’ll now be overshadowed. Crash also is more likely a timed exclusive due to the fact the typical “Only on PlayStation” is seen nowhere on the boxart. I’m really hoping for a Switch version as I loved the games as a kid.

      2. Megaman is dead because CAPCOM doesn’t know what to do with this IP.
Sonic may be not like the Sonic Adventure quality but I really enjoyed the Sonic games on the Wii (Colours and The Black Knight), also don’t forget the old style Sonic Mania which is really promising to me, and Sonic Forces gives you a third character to play with different weapon. The Sonic Team knows their mistakes with the Boom games.

Indiegames are fine and sometimes I found really good retro indie games. For now I only played Mighty Gunvolt Burst which is a retro Megaman style but I really enjoyed.

I’m really hoping Yooka-Laylee be on the Switch one day, so I can play it.

          1. Personally, I found much more brain-dead and atrocious Sonic Boom instead of Sonic Lost World.

I never played Sonic Lost World (not on the 3DS or the Wii U version) but I only know people saying that the Wii U version is a copy of Super Mario Galaxy.

If I had the chance to play the game then I give a full description of what I think of this game.

    2. Yeah, it’s too bad people have to choose one or the other and can’t, you know, get both games. I’d hate to own multiple games for one console, too.

      1. When two games in the same genre are coming to the same system around the same time and one already had mixed reviews and most people probably don’t get more than one game at a time do you really think they’ll buy both? Really?

    1. Probably not. They’re not like Slightly Retarded Studios. I’m sure that Playtonic Games will bring that RARE magic back onto a Nintendo hybrid platform.

    1. That’s why they’re fixing it.

Playstation, Xbox, and PC owners get a patch, while we get the definitive game, alongside Odyssey and Forces (hopefully).

      1. I don’t know if it’s a good choice to release the game when it will come out Super Mario Odyssey and Sonic Forces which are the most wanted game by all players.

I hope this game will be out on September so gamers that doesn’t played this game already (me) can play it.

  4. They still can save the Nintendo Switch version by including all those fixes of the other versions. For those ‘les jeux sont faits’, reviews killed them. Take your time Playtonic, ensure it’s polished from the get go.

    1. That’s part of why it’s taking so long, the Switch version will have the patch the other versions are getting. Basically, YL Switch Edition will be 1.0 with the same build as the 2.0 patch for the other platforms.

That said I DO wish we would get a release date already. I’ve had the money for Yooka-Laylee ready since April but at this rate it’s tempting to spend it on something else on Switch.
