Gamevice, who are an accessory maker, is currently in the process of a lawsuit against Nintendo as the company claims that the Kyoto-based company allegedly violated a patent for concepts used in the Wikipad. The Wikipad is an Android based tablet and they also provide an add-on controllers for phones and tablets. Gamevice says that the Nintendo Switch and the removable Joy-Cons are too similar to their own vision of a detachable game controller and a device with a “flexible bridge section.”
Thanks MasterPikachu6 for the tip!
||More attacks, when they lose, we will just be even more unstoppable and merciless towards impurities…||
Announcing their attack. What a foolish mistake. Defensive and offensive capabilities will be quadrupled at once. ->
while this could of been worded better instead of our sweedish roleplayer with a deluded mindset has stated, unless actuall facts are proved their claims are a little ridiculous.
||The number four is always the path to victory…||
I feel like this a Twin Star Exorcists reference somehow.
Companies always do this when a new system comes out… Why do these guys even try?
Have any companies ever won?
Not really, but one company kind of won against Nintendo to force them to us Digital Triggers instead of Analog but Nintendo was allowed to use them in the Newer GameCube controllers. Other then that, no one has won against Nintendo and their lawyers
Only once. And later the ruling was overturned. As far as I recall anyways.
A company won against Nintendo for the 3ds screen. A bit of the proceeds from revenues had to be given to said company for all sales from that point on so yea it’s possible . Unlikely but possible
however, on this case, the lawsuit is SUPER vague
“a contoller that can detach from a device” is super vague for a patent lawsuit and will end up on nintendo winning
There should really be some sort of punishment for frivolous lawsuits. Like a $500k fine if the judge deems it frivolous.. That would almost immediately stop these companies from suing without cause.
Oh good, I almost forgot about our ol’ pals the patent squatters.
Don’t want that to happen, now do we?
Well, I hope these people are prepared to lose. Nintendo rarely (if ever) loses these things.
e_e
This is as frivolous as it would have been if Nintendo went after Sony when they built their first controller, claiming the button layout was too similar to the SNES pad. Just stupid.
Lets sue, because our shit is not making money and theirs is … seems legit.
But seriously; like this has any real weight in it ;)
Like Jay said, there could have been numerous lawsuits about practically anything then.
Wikiwhat? Does it play Zelda and Mario games? No? Than f#ck off.
Why stop there? They should also sue for making the device rectangular and being able to play games.
And another lawsuit that Nintendo will win.
That’s ballsy, considering you could easily make the claim that the Wikipad looks like a Wii U gamepad, which came out a year prior.
That´s just a controller where you can fit a tablet, any tablet.
Different ideas, different controllers, they won´t get anything with that
If common sense prevails, this will get tossed (laughed) out. Sure, they make a controller add-on for tablets and phones, but you don’t need it to play the games.
You know of any Switch games you can play without a controller?
I didn’t think so.
VOEZ only uses the touch screen.
Severed as well.
(Sorry for the multiple comments) Unless you meant Switch exclusive games, then none come to mind.
Unless you consider the Switch’s touch screen a controller, which one might to be honest, all of the Switch’s interface and quite a few games, like World of Goo, Human Resource Machine and Little Inferno, can be controlled entirely by touch.
As long as Nintendo doesn’t show those games in court, then the jury won’t rule in favor of Gamevice! But, how long do lawsuits usually take?
Get ready to meet the cold-blooded, mercy-less, and hope-crusher side of Nintendo: their Legal Team.
I’m sure Nintendo has parents for the Wii U that will predate this failed product from this company.
*patents. Damn it.
MOOOM! COME STOP THIS FAILED PRODUCT
It looks nothing like the game pad lol
It’s nothing like the Switch either though.
Interestingly enough it’s a Sony certified tablet to be used with PlayStation Now.
I’ve never heard of the Wikipad.
The Nintendo Switch is currently a pop culture phenomenon.
I smell envy.
Differences between Wikipad and the Nintendo Switch.
Wikipad is for Android Tablet with a really weird controller that doesn know if it works on games like candy crush and any other game.
Nintendo Switch is a hybrid console that let you play games in 3 different mode with simply controllers that you can attach
or not on the console.
In the end, Nintendo win again.
Gamevice is going with an actual jury, and you know how juries are, one similarity to Wikipad and they ban the Switch!
They can do wharether they want.
Here is why their Wikipad is only a piece of garbage in compares to the Switch:
You have your smartphone with games like Candy Crush or Clash Royale which are games that requires touch command and not a command for a controller. You put your wikipad on your smartphone and you want to play Candy Crush, did you need the controllers to play? No because it’s a game that requires a touch controller and this is on everygame on smartphone and tablet.
In compares to the Switch there are few games that appear on the store for smartphone coming to the system but the rest of the games are all console games which requires the joycon or the pro controller, yes there is the touch screen part but this doesn,t count on similaritys from the wikipad because wikipad is a giant, horrible controller for smartphone.
Their console looks more like a Game Gear than it does anything, maybe Sega should sue Gamevice for stealing the Game Gears design
Save your time and save your money. The idea of having controllers that come off of a tablet, will just be deemed too broad for it to be a successful lawsuit.
Gamevice may have a bit of validity with their patent, but them wanting to “seize Switch sales” as well as them failing with their original idea and sitting on it shows that they don’t give a shit about us Nintendo fans. If this suit passes, which is unlikely but possible, we all lose.
Middle finger from Nintendo fans to you, gamevice.
So, that means no more Switch? I still want one!
If you want a good chuckle, look up a picture of the Wikipad.
after looking at the wikipad I can see their argument but sorry the joycons are tiny and being honest in the hands of adults a bit embarrasing to hold. the removable controller makes sense but the design of the console (if the wikipad can be called such a thing is just a glorified tablet with a tegra chip inside. (nothing really that fancy ) even the nvidia shield was miles better than the wikipad I have one infact and it’s awesome.
Again with this? Give it a rest, you insignificant companies looking for money.
If Nintendo loses, does that mean the end of the Nintendo Switch?
IF Nintendo loses then the sales and production of the Switch will not cease, i think the judge will not grant the ‘jelly’ guys demand on stopping the sales and production because that is just plain ridiculous but we all know that these guys will loose and WILL have to pay Nintendo for the lawyer’s fee and such.
Are you sure it won’t cease? Cause, I’m worried they’ll lose and I’ll never get a Switch!
It won’t. Like with the 3DS thing, the guys that win against Nintendo will simply be given some of the profit from each Switch & Joy-Con that sells.
You sure? They want a jury in this to help them! But, that case was in front of a jury too…so never mind I guess.
The Wikipad looks pretty much like the 3DS Circle Pad Pro, but of course they’re going to sue Nintendo over the more lucrative Joy Cons, which look nothing like the Wikipad. On the other hand the Wikipad uses Nintendo’s control scheme with 4 action buttons on the right, a D-pad on the left, shoulder buttons and analog sticks. Nindendo should be the one who’s filing the lawesuit! I hope the costs of the trial will make this shit company go bust!
Gamevice is wanting a jury for this lawsuit and you know how juries are! One similarity to the Wikipad they’ll see and they ban the Switch! Oh I hope that doesn’t happen!
Anyone gonna reply?
