Troll and I launched yesterday and some are reporting that the game can run into a never ending loading glitch around 15 minutes in which stops the player from carrying on. NintendoLife reached out to the developer during their review process and they responded with an explanation along with a simple fix. Maximum Games explained:
We believe that it is due to a memory leak in the Switch OS. If users are experiencing issues, they can fix them by hard resetting the system. You do this by holding down the power button, then selecting “Power Options” and “Turn Off.” The next time you boot the game any issues should be fixed.
Here is an explanation of the glitch from NintendoLife’s reviewer, Matt Mason:
The bug happens about 10-15 minutes in, after the main character slides down a hill in a quasi-QTE sequence. You kill your first enemy and scour a clearing for crafting items, but when you have to leap over a hill to go to the next area the game falls into an endless loading screen. I’ve tried moving around on the hill a little bit to see if jumping off at a different spot would help, but no luck. I tried reloading about five times on Normal difficulty to no avail, so I restarted the game on both Easy and Hard to see if I could surpass the bug, but it’s the same end result.
what is a memory leak? Asking for a friend
It’s when an application requests memory (RAM) from the operating system, but doesn’t give it back. If that happens repeatedly the OS has less and less memory available to give to applications, which can cause a variety of problems, depending on the application’s reaction to the lack of memory.
Yeah right, they’re just coming up with excuses so that they can make their game look a little bit better than it is (which won’t do it much considering how awful the game already is) and making Nintendo look like fools.
“Troll and I” has a meta rating of 27. If an asteroid hits my house, kills my wife and chilren while I’m playing Troll and I, it would be the games fault!
Well, it’s not like the game is reported to be full of bugs on the other platforms, too…
And correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Nintendo fix this memory leak problem in one of their last updates?
Thank god there is a fix for the 7 people who bought the game.
I dont understand these type of excuses. Did they not play test this game on a retail switch unit? Or play test it in general? Surely they would have come across this bug themselves?
Sometimes bugs slip through the cracks in games. I had one in Breath of the Wild within a week of playing it where I got stuck swimming in midair under a slope inside one of the shrines. Never had it happen again and I couldn’t figure out what caused it in the first place.
Unless they play test every copy before they ship it out, they can’t always find bugs as some are actually just a case-by-case thing. Happens more often than you would think with mass produced products.
it doesnt work like that every copy has the same code
individual cases are based on whatever there doing in game
Then the problem lies with the Switch.
Nah it is not the switch’s fault legit just look up reviews for the Switch. These people could not have beta tested the switch version and gave up since the other platforms gave it 1/10s to 4/10s
