You may have seen a report going around the internet these past few days saying that the Rhythm Heaven franchise is pretty much dead. Well, it turns out the particular piece of information isn’t true. Eurogamer caught up with Yoshio Sakamoto to ask him what is going on with the franchise and whether it’s still a viable IP for the company. Here’s his response:
I wanted to ask you about Rhythm Heaven, another game series you’ve worked on. There was a recent report there would be no more Rhythm Heaven – is this true?
Yoshio Sakamoto: We generally don’t comment on those kind of rumours, but I don’t remember us ever saying it was over. Generally speaking, if there’s an oppurtunity, a motivation, a need, we consider all opportunities and leave the door open. That’s all I can say.
So you wouldn’t say it was dead?
Yoshio Sakamoto: No, it’s not dead.

Make a new Rhythm Heaven for the Switch please!
We just got a game last fall… why would we assume it do be dead? Those reports didn’t bother me.
But didn’t Nintendo JUST state that they never would publicly say a IP is dead? Was it even Sakamoto who stated that?

I’ve always loved this series. I feel it is criminally underrated and forgotten by everyone.
Rather excited that Nintendo hasn’t totally forgotten it.

Screw this franchise right now as they got a new game a few years ago. Give us a sequel to Metroid Fusion already since that series hasn’t moved forward since 2002. (Prime & Other M don’t count since they both take place BEFORE Fusion so that’s not moving forward in the slightest.)

I’ve rather have 60 new Primes before a 2D Metroid, but the story should be going forward, I agree.
I never did say the sequel had to be a 2D game. If anything, they need to go full throttle with the 2.5D of Other M for Fusion’s sequel. The gameplay was always the best thing about Other M & I want more of it.
