FIFA 18 On Switch Will Run At 60fps In Both Docked & Handheld Modes

We already know that FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch will differ slightly from the Xbox One and Playstation 4 versions. For starters, the game won’t be utilising the Frostbite engine but rather it’s own custom-made engine specifically designed for Switch. The title, however, is shaping up great and is sure to please fans of FIFA as FIFA 18 has been confirmed to run at 60fps in both handheld and docked modes. The game will be output at 1080p on the big screen and at 720p when it’s in your hands or used in tabletop mode.

The news comes from supervising producer Andrei Lazarescu at Gamescom in Germany this week:

We spent a lot of time actually understanding what the console is. In dock, what we’re seeing right now, for example, is 1080p run running at 60 frames per second. When you plug out and you play in handheld it’s 720p. We spent a lot of time making sure that transition happens seamlessly and you still get 60 frames per second.

  1. Good. Job. EA! This is really surprising. The graphics aren’t insane (imo) but the fact that they prioritized gameplay is a good sign.

    1. how did they do that considering the gameplay is basically pre 2006 team controls on wii and has ps1 mechanics and the games not only gimped vs a STANDARD SET BY PES Wii its also gimped vs ps4 pc xbox and the graphics are way below switch capable

EA ARE A FUCKING JOKE DUDE AND SO IS ANY FOOTBALL GAME WITH OUT TEAM CONTROL MECHANICS its 2017 not pre 2006

were is my switch optimised football.;…take this babys game and flush it

where is my team controlled soccer i want next gen not RETRO gaming

  2. I won´t deny that being Latin American this is a must for me… but surprisingly, what i see from EA is a game made with effort and not a cheap port. Day one purchase.

  3. also, the frostbite engine on PS4 and XBOX is looking somewhat less realistic that the last year version ( i have it on XBOX ONE) the players look as they were made of wax or plastic

            1. Yeah, I come to understand that :P But one of the arguments I read was “they look less realistic and more wax-like.” which was the exact same problem with Andromeda, and Ignite Engine looked quite good when I demoed the games at press comferences back in 2013, so it sounded like a genuine argument to me.

              1. Them looking less realistic is a bit of a subjective thing, some people think the game looks fine others think the game looks like pure dogshit. When it comes to the games looking worse than the demos you should damn near always expect that. The devs want their games to look the best on a show floor or during a presentation. Remember Watch Dogs, The Division, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Destiny, and plenty of other games looked worse after release? That’s because the demos aren’t the actual
                ports of the game.

                1. I played those games kind of demos, was what I meant – one a Xbox One, the console were placed on a bench in front of me :P Not presentation demos.
Destiny looked the same before and after of what I recalled. I was one of the the first in the world to see that first gameplay footage, didn’t recall it to be better. Some things were better YES, but nothing in comparison to Watch_Dogs xP
Bottom line: I don’t care about the FIFA graphics anyway xD I don’t play it.

  4. That moment when EA actually delivered and did some genuine effort with FIFA on Switch, what has this world come to?

  5. Despite being powered by the Ignite Engine, FIFA 18 for the Nintendo Switch looks even more promising than that watered down FIFA 13 on the Wii U. 60fps in docked and portable modes sound too good to be true and EA Sports have piqued my interest now more than ever. Let’s hope that FIFA 18 is more successful on Nintendo’s hybrid machine.

    1. Despite? Not that I’ve played FIFA lately, but isn’t Ignite Engine the real deal when it comes to sports games? Cloth physics, ball algorithm and EMOTIONS? (Damn I got brainwashed back on Gamescom 2013 xD)

  6. EA actually optimized the game?! Is the world coming to an end? Maybe the eclipse did changed the world…

Jokes aside, it’s really good that EA for once optimized one of their games for once, especially on a Nintendo platform. I’m looking forward to it even more.

  7. how any of you can be positive when wii REVOLUTIONISED FOOTBALL is litterally hair tearing ANNOYING its a babys game for babays without a brain

were is my pes wii beating soccer gae were is my team controls were is my team and player on and off the ball gameplay and controls its gen 9 = switch not gen 4

THIS IS HOW ALL FOOTBALL GAMES SHOULD BE IN 2017 THIS OUTDATED PS1 GAMEPLAY SHIT NEDS TO DIE

FOOTBALL FOR HIGH IQ GAMERS TAKE THAT EA CRAP AWAY I CONTROL WHOLE TEAMS NOT ONE GUY AT A TIME LIKE A CASUAL

    1. Where is the correct grammar and spelling rather don’t you mean?

Even though this looks very unique and original, not everyone likes motion controls like that. That is something that would suit better as a different game.
Fifa is very fun, why change something that is already good. There isn’t much more in my opinion that could make it better, without changing some core mechanics of the game, which would be better as a separate game.
So stop whining, and go to EA and suggest your idea there.

  8. Theres only 22 similiar looking characters on the screen at the same time so I would be suprised if there wouldnt have 60fps.
