EA Says FIFA 18 On Switch Looks Far Superior Than Xbox 360 And PS3 Versions

FIFA 18 is heading to the Nintendo Switch next month and will most likely be a huge hit for EA. Andrei Lazarescu, the lead developer for FIFA 18 for Nintendo Switch, has told Dream Team Gaming that he is confident that the Nintendo Switch version will look superior to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. Lazarescu also explained why FIFA 18 for the Nintendo Switch isn’t running on the Frostbite engine.

“As much as we would have wanted to (use Frostbite) you can’t without making the whole engine work.

“We intentionally chose to do a custom engine because we felt that rather and try and get Frostbite running and end up having to downsize things and making it just a smaller, lower-quality version of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, we wanted this to be a FIFA that stands on its own two feet.

“We want people to recognise it and play it for what it is rather than saying, hey, you’re getting a sh***y, second-rate game. This is a full FIFA that players players will enjoy.”

For those worried about the lack of Frostbite, Lazarescu is confident the Switch version looks far superior than the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

“If you put the two together you won’t recognise them,” he said.

“When you dock it (and connect to the TV), it’s 1080p and 60 frames per second – Gen 3 (PS3 / Xbox 360) never run on this.

“We’re also using physics based rendering, another thing that Gen 3 did not have. We’re even putting ICONS in Ultimate Team – Gen 3 won’t have these either.”

    1. King Kalas X3 {I only buy exclusives that interest me on Switch. For everything else that interests me, there is PS4.}

I concur. The only sports I care about are wrestling & racing.

  1. I can confirm this. I was able to play the full version at the EA business section at Gamescom last week and the game looks fine. Overall the game does feel a little off and something doesn’t really feel the same control wise to the PS4 version and xbox one version but it still looked beautiful overall. I must confess that playing this game with a pro cpntroller is the better option, however.
Its a good game and a day one purchase for me, couldn’t care less about the journey.

    1. HOW IS PLAYING WITH A PRO CO0NTROLLER BETER THAN PES WII STYL;E CONTROLS ITS 2017 SWITCH IS THE CUTTING EDGE GAMING SYSTEM SO WHY AM I PLAYING GEN 4 SOCCER ON A GEN 9 SYSTEM

    1. That’s like saying “So we should be happy that developers still create video games on console from 2006…in 2017??” Yes it is so stop being ridiculous. MGSV ran on an Xbox One, as well as Rise Of The Tomb Raider, Black Ops 3…

  2. buit still has PRE 2006 WII GAMEPLAY MECHANICS IN 2017

    if i wanted a ps1 game id buy a ps1 game EA

this industry doesnt get it we had zomie u on wiiu with no mouse poiner option in a fps or gyro mouse option i was forced to aim with a stick on a system with a advanced 9 axis gyroscope built into tne controls and a wii remote and nunchuch realy system SO UBISOFT WENT BACKWARDS INSTEAD OF FORWARDS AND USED WIIUS ABILLITYYS IN A GIMMICK WAY not a gaming evolutionary way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we then had ea games say wii remotes couldnt be used in soccer games and had this top down weird as fuck ea fifa game with GIMMICKS LIKE ACTUALLY THROW THE BALL INTO PLAY FROMA THRO INS witch was ea tring to wii sport fifa

NO ONE SKED FOR THIS AND IT WAS RETARDED…

then we had cod wii using a wii remote currectly and with amazing poish and we had pes wii with its wii remote and chucch controla team and playmake and move the players in a new revolutionary way

fast forward to 2017 ea expects me to switch fifa with ps1 mechanics when i have gyro mouse aiming and 3d motion a touch screen buttons and sticks

SO EA WHY AM I SEEING 12 TO 20 YR OLD MECHANIS IN MY 2018 FIFA SWITCH

    GET A GRIP INDUSTRY

  3. ANYONE WHO DEFENDS THIS NEEDS TO GO BACK TO PLAYSTAION LAR LAR LAND WITH ITS PHONE GAMER CONTROLLER

ITS 2017 SWITCH IS Dshit were is my switch soccer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if i wanted outdated silly casual controls id buy a ps4

    1. Then don’t buy it then. We get it this is in low res but I always prefer fps over resolution. My only complain is that they eliminate some content for the switch and they still give us the same price instead lower.

  4. I know they’ll measure how much they should support the Switch by how good this game sells, but I have no interest in this game. It feels like EA just looked at what their most profitable game series worldwide is and then said “make it for the Switch,” without considering the fanbase usually present on Nintendo consoles. This probably won’t sell well, and then EA will decide “Well, same with the Switch as the Wii U. Guess we’re pulling support.” A game like Star Wars Battlefront (though it would have to be graphically downgraded) would sell a lot better on Switch.

    1. I personally doubt it. As long as FIFA 18 runs at 1080p 60fps in docked mode, I see absolutely no problem whatsoever. If this game sells beyond their expectations, there could be a possibility that Electronic Arts will deliver more games to the Switch. Fe is the second game from EA is one example.

  5. ” it’s 1080p and 60 frames per second – Gen 3 (PS3 / Xbox 360) never run on this.”

Ah yes. Remember when Sony invented video game consoles with the playstation 1? The good old days.

As for Bowler AA’s hysterical ranting on the board, you’re equating modern with better. The Switch is aiming at a broader audience than Madden bros. It is in many ways an SNES inspired machine. That is by no means a bad thing.

    1. I’m not sure, but I think by putting the PS3/Xbox360 after the gen 3 he is saying gen 3 for those two companies, and thus why Nintendo was not mentioned there. I could be wrong of course, but I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

As for Bowler, he is a very “special” individual. I’m not sure if anyone on this site cares for him. The one thing everyone seems to agree on on this site is that he’s a total buffoon.

  6. I’m quite confident about this. I’m sure where they hit the barrier was in the RAM department. Both the Xbox One and PS4 have 8gb ram but the Switch has 4gb. So I’m sure that’s why they built a custom engine.

Great effort EA. However, I’d like to know the “portability” of this new engine… How easy is it for them to port from Frostbyte to Switch engine?

  7. No matter all the commnents swinging this way or that way … from what I have seen day one for me. Pre-ordered it because of a lot of things but if people like Digital Foundry take this away as the best of a day at Gamescon when they where expecting other things … that in itself says something about the experience.

  8. James the Joker {Greatness Awaits at Sony PlayStation 4. Awaiting Greatness on Nintendo Switch.}

Really!? That’s amazing! Better than a game from a console that’s over 10 years old!? I never would have fucking guessed! *rolls eyes* I’d be more ecstatic if it was better than a Wii U game. This just makes it sound like the Switch is on the same level as Wii U which would be sad since it’s a brand new system & should be STRONGER than it’s predecessor at least by a small margin if not a very big one, not on the same damn level. *shrug* Whatever. I’ll only be buying Switch exclusives, anyway, so this game can be stronger than the PS2 & Xbox version for all I care. Sucks for those that aren’t gonna be doing what I’ll be doing, though. Enjoy the lesser game, folks!

    1. I really don’t think Switch’s CPU is much stronger than Wii U’s, and Fifa is a kind of a CPU based game I do believe. Not quote me on that though. But have multiple AI’s running around on the field is demanding that the CPU handles theirs “brains”. And Switch only got a Cortex A57 with one of its core dedicated for the system.

    1. I don’t really play games like Fifa, but if I could, I would probably take a chance and buy it. Simply because of the fact that EA is basing future Switch support with this title. I did the same thing with Need For Speed Most Wanted Wii U which turned out to actually be pretty good. But sadly, not enough people bought that.

  11. 90k units won’t satisfy EA :P They’re going to pull the plug for Switch support unless it reaches 23,45 mill within March in Japan alone. The Switch doesn’t have that many units? EA doesn’t care…
