The Pokémon Company Talks Pokémon On Nintendo Switch

Tsunekazu Ishihara, chief executive officer of Tokyo-based Pokémon, has explained that they have been having fun discussing ideas for Pokémon on the Nintendo Switch. Speaking to Bloomberg, Ishihara says that the company see’s it as a chance to create more impressive Pokémon with the technology provided to them. Here’s what he says:

“With the Switch, we see it as a chance to create Pokémon that goes deeper and with a higher level of expression. As a result, that makes it an extremely important platform.”

“Right now we’re using 7 to 8 inch screens, but on a high-definition TV you can express a whole different world with graphics and sound.”

“Until now, games were made as one for one person, but now you can go home and play with everyone — so how do we tackle these themes, and how do we make sure it’s not complicated?”

“I can’t say that we’ll release accessories, but I’d like to think of that possibility.”

“Unlike smartphones, the Switch is not a game device that assumes that there’s constant network connectivity. So from our perspective, it’s really not that different from DS or 3DS in terms of connectivity.”

  1. I haven’t really thought about how this graphical leap could affect the designs of the Pokémon themselves. Now I’m excited to see in what direction they’ll take it. At the same time, I hope this doesn’t mean that the new Pokémon will look similar to the ultra beasts and their intricate “Digimon-like” designs.

  2. There’s already Nintendo Switch stock shortages. So imagine how sought after I’ll be when a core Pokemon RPG lands.

  3. “Until now, games were made as one for one person, but now you can go home and play with everyone — so how do we tackle these themes, and how do we make sure it’s not complicated?”

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! Seriously? Creating multiple save files is too complicated? Are your pals at Game Freak actual programmers or is the theory that they use monkeys to program for them legit?

    1. I would say that they probably could program a system for multiple gamefiles but I think they choose not to have it because the way people would exploit it. however now with pokebank it doesnt make sense anyway.
but I think they wanted to control it so that you had to make choices in the game and trade with friends intead of just start a second game to obtain what you could not obtain in the first game.
