Credit Suisse has joined a growing number of companies and analysts who are having a very optimistic outlook for the Nintendo Switch, after the console’s launch this year has been more successful than anticipated. Credit Suisse has upgraded Nintendo’s rating from “neutral” to “outperform”, and they now forecast Nintendo to sell 130 million Switch consoles through to 2022, which is up from their previous 70 million forecast. Credit Suisse analyst Keiichi Yoneshima explained more:
“As Nintendo’s Switch is a unique game platform for use as either a console or handheld, there was initially some uncertainty over whether its sales cycle would more closely resemble that of a console or handheld. Although the Switch is currently categorized as more of a console, we expect it to sell like a handheld. Many users are in fact using the Switch as a portable according to a Famitsu survey of users. We previously projected a sales peak at about three years after launch (i.e., in FY3/19) on the assumption of a console-like sales cycle. Now that the Switch looks more likely to sell like a handheld, we update our sales forecast to reflect a longer sales cycle. We now expect the Switch to achieve peak sales about five years after launch (i.e., around FY3/20–21) like a typical handheld game device. We also raise our peak-year sales forecast from 25mn to 31mn units.”
I think they should have stuck with the 70m prediction. If only til we can see how well Switch sells when it’s not experiencing a stock drought of any kind. There is such a thing as too much optimism.
They aren’t changing their prediction based on “optimism”, they’re changing it because the facts at hand have changed. They didn’t expect the demand to stay as strong as it has for as long as it has. That alone makes it logically inconsistent to not update the sales projections accordingly.

Xbox One is dead in the water already. It’s floating carcass only remains preserved to better communicate the Futuristic value that The Switch brings to the homes and pockets of the inhabitants of this primitive world
The Xbox one x is dead before the console came out no good exclusives and most games who care a lot about 4K would’ve gotten a pc

We’re nearing to PS2’s sales right there. I don’t think the Switch will sell that much.
I don’t know. Remember Pokemon is coming. And with the 3rd party support growing as it is, it may be heading up there with PS2 and Nintendo DS. Shortages obviously don’t help.
I think it would be closer to the Wii and PSOne.. .. Except If Nintendo doesn’t release a 3ds successor. In that case, the console could have an unusual lifespan and it’s sales could reach the Original DS.. .. Cos it’s hands down the best portable console out there…
I really hope they don’t release a 3DS successor. They have something great with the Switch that reaches both the home console and portable Nintendo fans at the same time. Game devs don’t need to worry about what group to make a game for and hope they pick the right one or have to put resources into two versions of the game like Smash 4. I know Nintendo wants to push the Switch as a home console you take on the go but everyone sees it as a powerful handheld that you can hook up to your TV and I don’t think they need to have two handhelds competing with each other. After Ultra Su/Mo the 3DS family is more or less done for. It had a great run once it got past it’s rocky start, now it’s time to pass the torch to the Switch and it’s time for Nintendo to just have hybrid consoles going forward. Handheld has been their strongest category for the longest time and their bigger console experiences are second to none so playing to both their strengths in one device is an easy win.
A liitle early to be saying 130 mil. I’m thinking 80 mil, at least for now. We’ll see where things stand after their 3rd quarter.
just imagine for a moment the future lineup of the switch… Metroid Prime 4, Full 3d Pokemon, a new Super Smash Brothers, strong third party support… i don´t know, it could be legendary.
Lets not forget Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, Fire Emblem (not Warriors), Skyrim, and whatever else they have announced. Plus Animal Crossing and the next Zelda game that will obviously come in the future. The real question I have though is, will Smash Bros. be Smash 4.5 or Super Smash Bros. V?
The real question indeed. Without Sakurai, i think that we are 2 years away from hearing about a new SMB.

130 Million? 70 Million as a minimum would have been a good forecast, but placing it to sell 130 Million by 2022 is pushing it. It’s going to be a successful system, just not as successful as they are forecasting.
