Toys R Us Confirm They Are Still Stocking SNES Mini Following Bankruptcy Report

The sad news that Toys R Us was filing for bankruptcy only broke yesterday but we now know that Toys R Us will still be carrying the SNES Mini at launch. A rep recently told Polygon that, although there will be a limited supply of the console, the SNES Mini will still be available to purchase from stores on launch day which is September 29.

“Stores will open at normal time and have limited inventory of the console, so we encourage customers to get in line before doors open on Friday morning for the chance to scoop up this hot item,” the rep said.

    1. They aren’t going out of business. Lots of companies file for bankruptcy so they can restructure. There are two new stores opening in Maryland and one in Delaware in the next few months.

  1. The days of dedicated toy stores and video game stores are over. Say what you want about GameStop, but I always like going into a store that sold nothing but video games. Same with ToyRUs. Sad to see these stores fail. All because kids today order everything online. It’s funny, I wonder what kids today are going to be nostalgic over? I’m nostalgic over going into blockbusters and renting nintendo 64 games. Kids today will be nostalgic over……. flipping though Amazon?

    1. Going into a Funcoland and getting informed about what you could get was like a magic show. They would take a system down from a big wall of games and show you all about it and all the accessories. You could demo almost everything right there, it was like going to an attraction for this fun technology that was still new and seemed like magic. The cheap alternative kids have today is just watching Youtube videos about games.

  2. Fortunately (from what I understand, and have read), Toys R Us isn’t going out of business. They still plan to keep all of their stores open and operating for generations to come. I hope they do. And I still hope that some day when things are better for them, they build a location closer to me. Because my truck isn’t reliable enough to drive 200 plus miles to the closest one.

Bankruptcy isn’t the be all, end all many people think it is. In fact, filing for bankruptcy can only help a company that has a good reputation in public opinion as the government can actually give the company money to stay afloat til they can fix the issues with their company. Enron, for example, only fell after filing for bankruptcy because they were a shitty, greedy, worthless, shit stain, thieves of a company that deserved to go out of business so the government didn’t save them or else they would have looked just as bad for trying to help a scumbag company like Enron.

    3. Yea going bankrupt isn’t the end all, and it doesn’t mean they will go out of business. But for a company like ToyRUs to go bankrupt is a really bad sign for them. They were once the leading toy store retailer, now i think they are like 400 million dollars in debt. The guy above said they are still opening new stores, but the article I read said they were getting ready to start closing stores down. Digital corporations like Amazon and EBay are killing ToysRus. Same with Walmart and Best Buy, and honestly it didn’t help that GameStop got into the toy business. We’ll see, but it ain’t looking good for them.

Toys “R” Us needs to adapt by fixing up their site as an online store, like Wal-Mart & Best Buy’s sites. Those two companies are doing just fine because they now compete directly with Amazon & eBay.
