Nintendo is known for many things, but the secrecy they maintain about information is not an obscure habit. Indeed, they are very strict about keeping information confidential until they feel they are ready to announce it to the public. Reggie is very much aware of this, and as he explained in an interview with Mashable, there are reasons why Nintendo feels this way. Here’s what he said on the matter:
“The fans should know that we are not a company that is sitting in a little ivory tower and not thinking about all of these dynamics. [We’re] a company that likes to keep our information very close to the vest, and announce information when it’s ready and when all of the elements are fully fleshed out.
We love to surprise people. We also believe that the consumer should have the information when they’re ready to act on it. Telling someone about a game that’s four of five, six years away from actually launching? Just doesn’t make a ton of sense to us. But sharing information in order to frame how we are looking at a franchise, looking at an IP, that’s something we do very thoughtfully.
A hypothetical on one message board gets picked up on another message board as fact. That is the nature of the state of the industry today. And that’s why we do want to manage our messaging so closely. As we look at the overall business, we’re constantly looking to do the right thing for the consumer.”

I Love how everyone completely ignores most of what he’s saying and then just insults him about games he didn’t even make or decide when to reveal. They’re all like “remember that one crappy game that came out years ago! One good Metroid doesn’t erase the stain that is FedshitForce. Even when the Switch Metroid comes, it STILL won’t erase that stain. Til they erase it from the Metroid canon by ignoring it’s events, it will forever be a stain on Metroid.
Its not even that bad of a game, a lot of people actually enjoy it. The reason it was hated so much was because we hadn’t had any real Metroids in so long, now we do. Stop being salty.
It was hated because it was chibi bullshit that has no place in a Metroid game, Samus got caught by bitch ass Space Pirates she has kicked the asses of countless times where she defeated an entire planets of them a number of times, she was even turned into an enemy by them as if getting captured wasn’t enough of a slap in the face to Samus & those of us that know she’s too badass to be caught by Space Pirates of all creatures, AND because people wanted a true Metroid, not that filthy abomination. I don’t expect someone that doesn’t even play or care about Metroid to understand, anyway.
And Reggie sucks for more than just one little game he didn’t make or decide the release of. His lies, broken promises, PR bullshit, & patronizing comments so many fans are so quick to forget or too dumb to notice is what really makes him suck. Not to mention NoA has been a shit publisher with him in charge that Iwata had to personally take over as CEO til his untimely death. It’s sad when a manager is so inept at his job that his boss has to come & do his job for him. THAT is the real Reggie. He should have stayed at Pizza Hut.

Did you forget? Iwata took over NoA. It’s still around because Iwata gave his life to improve & lead it, along with his duties as CEO of NoJ. It’s clear Reggie was a shit manager if his own boss Iwata had to take over for him. And better than ever? That’s debatable.

I agree with him. This has happened so much lately. Crackdown 3 (announced 2014, releasing 2018), Cyberpunk 2077 (announced 2012, releasing around 2018 or 2019), The Last Guardian (announced 2007, released 2016)… it’s kind of annoying to hear of a new game that is YEARS away from coming out…

You forgot Xenoblade Chronicles X. That took awhile to release, too. Oh & don’t forget about Twilight Princess which got delayed one too many times.

Yes and that is great and all…but Nintendo is also silent about things running not so well. For example Voice Chat, social fetaures like friends and messages or even the promised video recording feature. I hope Nintendo has many updates and news for us on hold though.
