Recent GameCube Controller Support On Nintendo Switch Was A Surprise Even To Nintendo

We found out with the recent Nintendo Switch update that the latest console from Nintendo supports GameCube controllers. Many jumped to the conclusion that a GameCube Virtual Console wasn’t far off. However, it seems that GameCube controller support on the Nintendo Switch surprised even Nintendo. Here’s what Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime had to say to Kotaku.

In our latest system software update, it enables third-party peripherals to work on Nintendo Switch. As a result, the peripheral for Wii U that allows it to attach GameCube controllers also works. I think it’s fair to say, Stephen, that that peripheral working was as much a surprise to us as it was to consumers.

  1. Nah nah. This can’t be an “accident”. I’m sure Nintendo is saving a big surprise for the GameCube’s apparently surprise revival that’s even better than Pii U’s half-as attempt. I’m damn certain the VC is coming soon and the GC VC games will hit us with a bang.

    1. Agreed. I’m an amateur programmer at best, but it seems to me that whoever designed the adaptor would have to have pull off magic for it to just accidentally work with hardware it wasn’t designed for…

      1. It’s obvious Nintendo is planning a bombshell via next update with VC launch and rebirth of GameCube digital. I can’t fucking wait to play Melee and Double Dash again. I’m sure others are eager to play Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, Thousand Year Door especially.

      2. If you have programming experience then you should know that there might be a standard communications protocol for controllers which might also be used by the GameCube adapter. All that would be left to do is button mapping.

Since you’ve been gone, some of us have accepted the fact that Reggie & NoA as a whole both suck.

    1. It was revealed in the WikiLeaks Emails that NOA had sold their failed Wii U money to Isis Terror Groups in order to plan their success on the Switch.

    1. No but someone tried to use Wii controllers on the Switch and it works if you buy some strange USB.

Check on youtube and find this man who bringed the Wii controls on the Switch.

  2. Lol sounds like a cover-up. How can something so obvious be a surprise to the company that enabled it. Obviously if third party peripherals were enabled then someone was going to test the GameCube adapter, that almost automatically comes to mind.

Either way, it’s just further proof that Reggie is a shitty CEO of NoA.

Claiming denial in knowing about GCN controller support being added to Switch isn’t the way to go about it. Anyway, I guess they didn’t think that someone might actually try to see if they can use their GCN controller adapter with the Switch so they added the feature in this update covertly, hoping no one would get curious enough to try.

That’s debatable since even a smart person can be an idiot. *thinks of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory* lol But yeah. I would hope Reggie knows more than he’s saying since he is the CEO at NoA. It’d be pretty embarrassing to be the manager of the American division & not even know what’s going on with the company as a whole.

  3. My Interview With Reggie Would’ve went like this:

Me: “So Reg, I hear there is an available update for the SWITCH?”

    Reggie: “That’s correct Dre’!

Me: “& to my surprise this update actually allows the Gamecube adapter & Gamecube controller to work on the SWITCH as well!”

Reggie: “We weren’t planning for that to happen Dre’. It just did…so we were like, Oh-for real? That’s kinda cool fellas! Lets keep it!”

Me: Cough, cough…..bullshit!!! Okay Reggie. Whatever you say homie.

    Lmao

lol Next time, though, you should put bullshit between the coughs. Much more effective that way as you’re saying bullshit between coughs. Otherwise, you’re saying bullshit after coughing. Sorry for the nitpick. lol
