Capcom: ‘No Time To Make New Games For A System In Less Than A Year’

It seems as though Capcom was taken by surprise by the success of the Nintendo Switch as they have recently commented about their lack of support for the platform in a recent article by the Wall Street Journal. The company simply said that they haven’t had enough time to make new games for the Nintendo Switch in less than a year.

Capcom Co. , a software publisher famous for the “Resident Evil” and “Monster Hunter” franchises, has released for the Switch only some older titles that it had released to other game consoles. A company spokeswoman said that is normal procedure for third-party software developers because there isn’t enough time to make new games for a console within a year of its launch.

  1. I am honestly laughing at this bs PR, capcom was the only company that was working with Nintendo to make the Nintendo switch and they even got Nintendo to change the ram size. They had information on the specs long before all the other companies. The only thing to blame, is capcoms incompetency.

    1. They asked for more RAM to port RE7…nearly 10 months later and still no port. Oh wait, let’s settle with Revelations 1 that we already got since 2012…on the 3DS. Revelations 2 as digital only? Fuck that. See when Nintendo highly improved themselves and those 3rd party jerk offs still wanna make weak ass excuses and criticism? Goes to show how the Wii U flop initially aside from Nintendo fucking up too.

  2. Sure, keep the bs coming, not like multiplatform releases at release month of PlayStations and Xboxes were a thing for generations or anything….

  3. Capcom and their bullshit! They could have at least released MHXX in the west! You know that single Switch game that everyone in the west wanted?! Just when I think Capcom can’t piss me off any more than they have they manage to do so with flying colors. I LITERALLY HATE Capcom even more than EA, Activision, WB, and Konami combined, even with all of the lootbox microtransaction BS in the mix!

  4. They will definitely support it, and they were there before other biggies except Ubisoft (launch title). Three titles in the first 8 months is that bad? Just wait 2018 for the big ones… it takes time, and some xx millions consoles out there.

    1. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

      ||Excuses, we don’t tolerate mediocre rubbish and words uttered that are almost as bad as The Letter…||

      1. Fuck Crapcom. We’re getting Hollow for horror. Fuck EA/Activison/Ubisuck/WB. We’re getting Doom, Skyrim, Wolfenstein 2, Sonic Forces and Rocket League. We don’t need those Microtransaction/FPS cocksuckers.

    2. In 8 months they just re-released some old games.

Look the other companies how are really supporting Nintendo.

      Ubisoft
Bethesda (I think I wrote correctly)
Sega (With the 2 Sonic games)
Square Enix (Project Octopath is good)
      Indie developers.

Then we have capcom saying they don’t have time to work on the Switch.

Thank you Capcom Crapcom to be some dumbass on Nintendo. We apprecciate that…

Now give us Megaman and STFU

      1. They are already working on games, but games take years to develop. And they want a bigger market to take any risks. It’s commonplace with every console, Sony’s or Microsoft’s too.
Project Octopath has not been released, still.
There is only Rabbids and Sonic out there, except for indies.
        Hate on Capcom is useless.

          1. Why so much hating spread everywhere? I think people should just be happy to have more gaming options. Any publisher will invest money where they see a market for their games, hating is just useless.

  5. Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis

    ||The First Order has officially switched the Bethesdians with the Capconian scum as the third most disgusting enemies to Nintendo and their pure loyalists…||

    1. Oh. The Capcom 5. How could we forget. Same with Ubishit over Rayman Legends, Activision withdrawing CoD (although at the best time because they’re garbage now), WB cheaping out on media and EA for everything else.

    1. Because the interns of Capcom hates Nintendo. Only few of them are trying to rebel their superior. But with their low power they can’t do so much.

So we can just be happy to see old games on the Switch. Because this is something that people wants (in their mind)

  6. We don’t need you anymore Capcom, go flop down with Sony, SFV selling like shit did not teach you a good enough lesson, so the logical move was to move MH to the same console that made your second most profitable game flop? get the fuck out of here son.

  7. Kalas X3, The Sonyendo King {Sony+Nintendo=Sonyendo!}

No loss for me. The only Capcom games I play these days are Resident Evil & Monster Hunter with Worlds just around the corner. I just need Resident Evil 2 & 3 to complete my collection of the main Resident Evil games on PS4; already got 0, Resident Evil Remake, Code: Veronica X, 4, Revelations, 5, Revelations 2, 6, & 7.

Sucks for those that can’t get a PS4 & want those games, though. All they can do is wait & pray Capcom actually supports the Switch.

  8. Over the years Capcom has been a pillar of support for Nintendo consoles, providing hit after hit of successful franchises and multi platform releases.
But what is happening to Capcom in recent months? With each release missing its full potential, are they playing a clever game or looking for an easy way to side step Nintendo.

With the recent article on how well the switch is doing since launch and the exciting and welcome news of many large third party developers jumping back on the Nintendo train. It’s hard to understand the decisions being made at Capcom’s HQ.

The fact that many third parties are making it clear. Its a make or break situation an understandable angle after a poor performing Wii U. Capcom themselves said we will review sales data before committing. Show us you want it, buy the title. In return we will review the sales and make more games….a logical and business like approach.

So how is this model working for Capcom?

Since the launch of the switch Capcom’s support has been questionable with each release.
First we had a remaster or re-release of Street Fighter 2 an odd choice but at the same time a safe choice. Street fighter has proven its self time and time again and today still has one of the highest attach rates of all the fighting franchises. Yet Capcom priced this outside of its represented market. Possibly for two reasons, the additional programming costs of the underwelmingly poor first person mode. The second to make a point that this is firstly a cartridge release rather than an ESHOP VC title. Taking into consideration the cartridge costs and pitching it as a budget entry amongst £50 titles.
Is this an attempt to fail or has the release sold considerably more than just a straight forward ESHOP VC release could ever have achieved.

I can mostly understand the decisions behind this release but the money spent on the additional modes could have been put to a better use! Maybe a multiplayer Power Stone re-release.

Capcoms second title for the switch was Monster Hunter XX. Currently only a Japanese release title. A very hard title to read into. As this franchise has a huge install base in Japan and after two western 3DS releases to aid the growth of the franchise over here it’s hard to imagine a Nintendo console without a Monster Hunter title.
So why chose to create a switch port of Monster hunter XX a title recently released In the last few months in Japan on the 3DS. With console sales being as incredible as they are the install base would still be extremely low this soon into the switches lifespan. With many or most Japanese owners already owning a copy on the 3DS. And although you can transfer save files from the 3DS to the switch, the only benefit being the graphical upgrade as both formats are currently portable. The monster hunter XX title on the switch will never sell in the quantities a custom to the franchise. But could the answer have been to release it in the west, a market baited and craving its release.

Our last Capcom entry is our third port and re-release, Resident Evil Revelations 1&2.
This release is the most baffling of all due to the nature of the title and its previous release on the Wii u and 3DS.
The first of the Revelations titles is a welcome addition to the re-release roster. Ticking the box for physical and digital adapters due to its smaller than sequel file size. And budget entry pricing.
Then we move onto the sticking point. Resident Evil Revelations 2 a title which skipped the Wii u. A title which will be digital only and a whopping 26GB file size.
A title which given the choice most would prefer to own physically over digitally due to the huge file size. A title which can’t fit internally even when the switch is straight out of the box. (25.9GB after OS). So knowing this why not make a small change or compress the file by a GB or so. At least then we might be able to buy it.
Now given the two options, would you rather an additional charge for the larger cartridge sized physical copy, or to have no choice but to own/purchase a storage device to be able to download and play. It seems almost set up to fail.

So In summary, has Capcom purposely selected the way it releases its switch titles to struggle. Are we going to be told that they tried but the low sales have left Capcom to rethink their relationship with Nintendo and content on the switch. Should Street Fighter 2 have been a digital budget VC title and Monster Hunter released to an audience who already own XX instead of a western release. Should Resident Evil Revelations 2 be a cartridge release?

Who really knows but it’s safe to say they are off their game at the moment!
And seem to be going the hard way round getting sales!

    1. You make some fair points although Ultra street fighter 2 had sold about 500k copies by August which is pretty amazing for what it was, so I don’t think they’d be using that game as a reason not to support

  9. No time? More like wasted time. These jokers had access to the Switch well before everyone else, early enough for Nintendo to make changes to the hardware based on their suggestions. Add to that early every single other developer talking about how easy it is to bring games to the Switch and all I can see being the truth is Capcom is full of it.

  10. F**k Capcom! They’re 3 bad decisions from BANKRUPTCY anyway. Lol…..

Making bullsh*t excuses on THE HOTTEST SELLING CONSOLE this year is like saying “we’re allergic to making money. So hey! Lets go broke!!” smdh…

  11. Capcom, what happened to you? You use to be Nintendo’s second banana, and now look at Nintendo. The switch has a lot of games, but only a few good ones. This is the straw that broke the camels back for me. Make a Megaman game for the Nintendo switch even if it’s nothing but a sprite of Megaman picking his nose.
