The Nintendo Switch Console Will Not Be Discounted This Black Friday

Although we can expect to see discounts applied to Nintendo Switch software, Nintendo has said that the price of the console will remain the same and will be sold at the recommended retail price this Black Friday. There are of course console bundles like the Super Mario Odyssey one which should help shift some extra consoles this holiday season.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Reggie Fils-Aime highlighted Nintendo’s focus on stock levels, rather than slashing the price of the hardware.

“We are not discounting the Switch,” Fils-Aimé said. “We’re focusing on making sure we have robust supply at retail.” So apart from a couple of bundles featuring cases themed to hit games “Super Mario Odyssey” and “Splatoon 2,” there aren’t additional holiday discounts from Nintendo.

    1. I hope they’ll release an upgrade like the New Nintendo 3DS or the PS4 Pro. Basically a more capable version of the system somewhere within the next years. The Switch is not powerful enough to keep up for long. They could sell the new version for normal price and the old version could be cheaper.
As long as the Switch sells as good as it does, I don’t see a price cut anytime soon.

If only they could boost the Switch’s power without having to make an upgraded system. *stares at the dock that could be used as an external power source to BOOST the Switch’s capabilities down the road for a cheaper price than an entirely new system*

      2. Then they’d be still underpowered the next year, and they won’t have system parity.

The Switch will never be powerful enough if developers and gamers focus on graphics and power.

The only improvements that a pro version would work, is a HD screen (matching TV mode) assuming they also improve battery and power to support that. But if they do a NS pro like N3ds, or at least within 3 years of release, it will not go well.

You can’t have portable and power that matches other consoles, and not in 50 years.

      3. Infinite Kal, also with that, the reason the switch works, is because they have parity between handheld and tv mode.

  1. Lol this console just came out like this year what company literally slashs the price of a item that’s hasn’t gone through one year, I could see if It this was the Wii U days since that system did horrible during black Friday

      1. Lol you wouldn’t get fired over something like that. It’s a valid consideration even if it’s the conclusion is obvious. These are things that are natural to discuss in a marketing team.

        1. I’d be putting this person who made such a suggestion on the top of the “let go” list. And the person who “lol” at the idea of firing such a person, would be #2 on that list :)

  2. I don’t expect a price cut anytime soon for any reason at all. The system is flying off the shelves as it is, why lowering the price when customers are more than willing to pay the normal price?

  3. I’m just waiting for a price cut for breath of the wild… I want it on switch but I have it on Wii U already and with all the games coming out it’s not worth it to get zelda for a full 60 again

    1. Yeah don’t count on that anytime soon.. Zelda is one of the flagship games. Nintendo games rarely drop much in price in the first place, so for Zelda it’s probably going to take even longer.

        1. Understandable ^.^ I wouldn’t either. (then again maybe I would since I’m a huge Zelda fan and I love playing it on the go, but really that’s a big reason why I got the Switch on day 1)..

The world is not round! The world is fucking flat! It’s a major conspiracy that’s been going on for millenia that was first started by that quack Plato! /sarcasm (It’s sad there are people today that believe the earth is flat. lol It’s just as sad as the people that think the earth is only 2000 years old.)

  4. Actually I remember Nintendo cutting the price of the 3ds not long after it was first realeased. But then any loyal ones like myself who bought one straight away got 10 free games to download which was pretty cool.
The switch is rocking though and it doesn’t need to shift its price tag.
Actually why did they drop the price of the 3ds so soon cos it’s done brilliantly?

    1. That’s because they didn’t have enough games at launch and people thought it was too expensive so Nintendo actually listen to the feedback and cut down a bit the Wii U is another story, I did some search on hat issue a few years ago

    2. Judging by the success of the 3DS this may sound weird to people who don’t remember or simply didn’t notice, but… the 3DS sold very bad at launch. It didn’t have the games and it was very expensive for what it was. That was round about the time when everyone went screaming handheld gaming is dead.
Btw, not just the “local ones” (where ever that may be) got games for free. Everyone who bought a 3DS at launch for full price was rewarded with freebies after the price cut as an apology. A very fair move by Nintendo.
It was AFTER the price cut and the release of the big games that the 3DS took off and became Nintendo’s saving grace during the Wii U era.
The Switch is selling like hotcakes, so why should they cut the price?

      ||No, they should increase for the Xbox One X abomination instead to 10,000 euros…||

    2. Infinite Kalas X3, The Sonyendo King {Sony+Nintendo=Sonyendo!}

*holds back the urge to explain why it’s really not as affordable as many people claim because of the expensiveness of extra controllers, extra external data storage because 32gb isn’t going to last very long, etc*

Or people buying a lot of triple A 3rd party support since those day 1 patches are pretty frakking huge.

  5. Who the fuck thought the super popular Switch will be discontinued from Black Friday? That’s like closing out your store from the holiday shopping sprees. Not gonna happen and I’m glad Nintendo is going all out on the Switch.

Honestly, a small discount of maybe 10-20 bucks wouldn’t have hurt. If the Switch is going to be such a great sale for years to come along with a great selling library, they could easily make their money back within a year or less. *shrug* Whatever, though.

      ||No, that would put an even bigger stress on demand, as if we don’t already wage war against the Applings on the materials front to meet demand from our slav—I mean people…||
