Marvelous Says There’s No Plans To Localise Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura

It seems that those who were hoping to see Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura here in the west will be disappointed. Marvellous has said that they currently have no plans to localise the title, despite fans asking for the game. That may change if fans are more vocal but at present it isn’t something that the company is planning to do.

  1. inb4 people start chiming in with “I guess they don’t like their fans/our money” when they’re not triple AAA like some other companies that say they have no translation plans yet could reasonably afford to.

    I give these guys a pass; Capcom I don’t.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t even THEIR idea but simply NoA trying to block the game’s release. But to keep themselves from being on Nintendo’s black list, they claim it is not part of their plans to localize it in the West instead of telling us it’s not their fault.

      1. That is something I had not considered, but tell me: what does Ninty have to gain with a decision like that? They don’t need another Wii U situation with droughts or keeping the good titles off while allowing shovelware on (thinks back to The Letter… *shudders*).

Considering there are plenty of other games on the system already, what’s one less game compared to the hundreds already on it?

Speaking of The Letter, that guy released it too soon on a home console. Home consoles aren’t the best place to release a beta game & slowly add to it over the years, even if it was only 2 bucks to buy. Hello Neighbor was released as a beta game on Steam back in 2015, much like The Letter on Wii U, with upgrades to it over the next 2 years. Meanwhile, that game is getting a lot of praise & will get a WW release next month as a full game. Anyway, I hope the guy making The Letter didn’t give up on his game as it does have some potential if he plans on doing to it what has been done with Hello Neighbor.

          1. There’s a bit more story to it than that. He used Indiegogo to fund it. His asking price was $5000… he only made like $370. That’s part of the reason the game was so short, unpolished, drab, and honestly, laughable (nothing excuses how the story ends, though- nothing).

You’re right, there’s nothing wrong with putting your game out there still in early beta- in fact it’s something I’ve thought about doing with my own game, though I’m not sure how well it work for a fighting game that has a large amount of story to it (character B is crucial to character A’s story, but B hasn’t been made yet)- but you can’t charge full, final price for it, market it as a finished product if you *plan* to add to it post-release (like ARMS and Splatoon; both games, they say they’ll keep supporting and adding stuff post-release months in advance). You’re right, Letter could have turned into something at least decent, but the dev’s approach was massively flawed.

Yet somehow nearly every other game in the series is getting localized. I really wonder if this was truly Marvelous’s idea or if NintenD’OH! of America is trying to block it’s localization. I understand, though, if that’s the case. They don’t want another game with “petting” in it to make the censoring of Fates in America to look utterly pointless as this game sells without issue with the petting intact.

    1. Or they don’t wanna end up in prison for child porn sir? Not everything they remove is for the kiddies. Most time petting is a sexual thing that humans do when fucking isn’t an option. Maybe the game is only getting released in Japan because people in Japan will buy it in unison. It goes back to the Roman times when petting is used for slaves and sex laws in the middle east.

I know I’m talking about an anime game.

But it has roots outside of cartoons you know?

Changing the ages is simple enough. The characters can easily be passed off for 18 or older.

Then them not localizing it has nothing to do with being afraid of being charged for child pornography in the US. Unless I missed something, 18 years old is still considered the start of adulthood in the US. (Or you’ve been pulling my chain. In which case, dang it! I fell for it again!)

Oh well. You’re one of the couple on here that isn’t annoying, so no biggie.

    2. No. There’s already games just as lewd (arguably lewder) coming to or already on the switch. The reason there’s no localization is because they don’t have the money to waste on a market who won’t buy it.

  3. It makes sense to an extent. This game seems more like a tech demo for what they’re capable of with HD rumble than an actual full game experience. The Crossbow training to Twilight Princess if you want to look at it that way. As long as they keep localizing their regular releases, I’m down. I’ll grab this in japanese to feel how their lewd use of HD rumble feels anyways lol

Has it been confirmed to be more of a tech demo than an actual game? I can see why they wouldn’t localize it then & would gladly take back my previous comment.

  4. Well, if they do, they could make the game send out #metoo tweets and harass our employers.
You know, the real western experience.
