Yooka-Laylee On Nintendo Switch Runs At 900p Docked And 600p In Handheld Mode

We just reported that Yooka-Laylee has finally been granted a release date on the Nintendo Switch and will be arriving on December 14th. IGN reports that the colourful 3D platformer will run at 900p in docked mode, and 600p in handheld mode. The site also says that the team over at Playtonic have worked directly with Nintendo and Unity to optimise the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

      1. Looking at how it looks and knowing that it’s not a 1st party title it only can run at 30fps. How many not-sop-bad-looking games have there been so far running at 1080p/60fps?
Mario’s Odyssey might look way better while also running at 60fps, but in the end it’s done by the same guys who crafted its hardware. YL is running on Unity and looks way better/more demanding than for instance RiME which runs pretty bad.

So if it can hold 30fps, that would be fine for me.

      1. Pretty doubtful. PS4 and Xbox One were 1080p 30fps, don’t see why Switch would get better framerate than the more powerful systems, especially considering how much harder it was for them to even get the game running on the Switch.

                      1. Infinite Kalas X3, The Sonyendo King

It’s stylized where the subtitle is not capitalized. So it should be Resident Evil: biohazard or Biohazard: resident evil.

Just to be sure but you do know Micro neither developed nor published this game, right?

Cool about the Super Mario World tune.

      1. Hmm… I wonder if will release alongside a gameplay update like it was rumored back when the Switch version was announced. I’m still getting this regardless (unless the port has big issues).

                        1. It’s a “Play Anywhere”-title so it’s already on PC. Yeah, I think Nintendo will have it before Sony, to put it mildly xD The first game was an VR-title and second was Xbox “console exclusive”. Anythings possible with Lucky’s Tale I guess, but MS has had a lot of fire for not having enough exclusives, so they might keep it a while.

If this game’s release on Switch is a vast improvement from it’s initial release on PS4 & Xbox One, people might want to get this game within the next several months. ESPECIALLY if they want PlayTonic to support the Switch in the years to come. I’m sure once these former Rare guys get into the full swing of making good games again, the Switch can’t risk not having these guys support it.

        1. Well, Switch got Nintendo and Sega + every freakin’ indie with their platformers out there — heck even EA comes with a platformer. I don’t think it’s going to be that bad if SCAMtonic don’t want to support Switch: which I know they’re going to.

      3. Backed this game for WiiU, was superexcited when they announced not to bring it to the WiiU but the Switch, as I had already preordered the Switch back then and knew it’s an additional game for a portable console. Now FINALLY that baby’s coming home.

I don’t care that much about reviews and will just try to get the best out of it. I played the toybox (a demo that was available before launch) and at this already brought some nostalgia up, so maybe the BK-vibe can help tolerating it’s shortcomings. In the end I already paid for it anyways and will ba able to play it on 14th in any case. Pretty excited :)
