In a recent interview with Game Informer, director Koji Oda chatted with them about Resident Evil, and how it was originally intended for the SNES.
“Honestly, I feel like I joined the game industry at the best time,” said Oda. “Typically, games would take half a year and no longer than a year to develop, so I feel like I was able to take part in a lot of different projects. It’s not that well known, but before Resident Evil went to the PlayStation, I was working on it for the Super NES.”
The game was originally meant to be a spiritual sequel to the NES game Sweet Home, but due to the success of the PlayStation, Capcom decided to move it over to Sony’s console. At this point however, the game wasn’t named Resident Evil, “This was back before the name Resident Evil had even been assigned to it,” said Oda. “The codename for this was literally just ‘horror game’.”
Koji Oda also mentions that when they were working on the SNES version, they were working with limited hard drive space, and advised that if it would have been completed it would have been “considerably different.”
All of sudden we only talk about Capcom. Finally they showed their support to Nintendo and with the help of Megaman we can defeat the Xtoaster even faster than ever.
With the Switches success and all of us in the Nintendo camp bashing C”r”apcom for not making sense lately, it appears they finally made some smart moves by releasing no brainers like Megaman on Switch. Here’s hoping they take more risks and release other things on Switch as I feel the Switch has the audience to support multiple types of games that are not just made by Nintendo.

Lol, it’s a start though( well technically Ultra Street Fighter was but…) capcom was pretty much thinking all they had to release was 2-3 games and then it would be Wii U all over again. With the Switch they have no choice but to take notice and think about if they want to make more money, they have to stop holding Sony’s hand and bring somethings over to Switch.

Says the guy that thinks Iwata is a god & that Resident Evil would have been loads better on a weaker system from a previous gen than the masterpiece it was on PlayStation simply because that older, weaker system was a Nintendo system. This and Rayman were supposed to debut on Snes. Woulda liked to have seen the end results for both. Rayman probably the same as it was a side scroller but I wonder what RE would have looked like !

It would likely look a lot like the game that inspired it, which was basically a japan exclusive horror themed RPG. Pretty neat actually.
