Pokemon GO Is Introducing Weather And 50 Pokemon From The Hoenn Region

The Pokemon GO blog has updated with exciting news for trainers out there. Niantic has announced today that dynamic real-world weather is coming to the application and also 50 new Pokemon. Here’s what was outlined on the official Pokemon GO blog:

“Starting later this week, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, and several more Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region in the Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire video games will start appearing in Pokémon GO for the first time ever—with even more to be discovered over the next several weeks! We’ll also be introducing a new dynamic weather system in Pokémon GO that will change the way you and the millions of Trainers around the world discover, catch, and interact with Pokémon.

You’ll want to start paying even closer attention to your local weather patterns, Trainers. In addition to the in-game map being updated with cool new weather visuals, weather near you will impact Pokémon in a variety of ways. For example, you’ll find your odds of discovering Mudkip splashing around will greatly improve on rainy days, as certain Pokémon types will be more commonly found during various weather conditions. Additionally, attacks of certain types will be more effective during some weather conditions, so a Charizard’s Fire Spin will perform better on sunny days, for example. Rain or shine, winter or spring, your gameplay experience will remain fresh, making your time outdoors even more exciting.

There’s never been a better time to grab your umbrella or snow boots and safely venture outside with family and friends this season. As you explore your local neighborhoods, remember to share a photo of your encounters on social media with the hashtag #PokemonGO. We’d love to see all of your new adventures as they unfold.”

  1. This weather mechanic is something I would want in the official games, it would be even cooler if it was synced in with whatever the weather forecast says for your area. It would also be nice if the seasons came back, but not in the weird way it was implemented in gen 5 with it being monthly instead of the proper time. Playing the game in fall when the month is July is disconcerting. Besides affecting what kind of Pokemon appear in the game, it could have all sorts of potential, like add in holiday events like what the Animal Crossing series does and make the game feel more alive.

    1. Have you played Ruby and Sapphire? The weather mechanic is in those games along with Emerald. I agree, seasons would be awesome.
      It’s going to be cool though. The weather will change the pokemon’s stat base in PoGO and different pokemon will appear more in rainy weather, sunny weather, ect.

      1. Even in those games, weather conditions are very cosmetic and almost contributes nothing to the mechanics since it can easily be overlooked or exploited. Berries/items can change the battle but weather, it’s not even remotely noticeable to make any difference.

      2. I suppose I should’ve said I want the weather mechanic back too, it’s been absent for so long and was so limited it’s easy to forget it even existed. I’ll never understand why Gamefreak will have features like this and then stop putting it in when it brings a wonderful aesthetic to the games. Let’s hope the Switch game brings this back in.

          Like letting the first Pokemon in your team follow behind you like in Heart Gold & Soul Silver!? Yeah, they suck for not including that in every future generation after HG/SS. If you heard, they apparently have walking animation codes for all of the Pokemon in Sun & Moon but didn’t make the code usable in-game. Or was it US/UM that had it?

      3. Weather hasn’t been absent at all, it’s been in every game since Ruby and Sapphire. Although I agree, it’s been pretty barebones (mostly just rain) and doesn’t affect much more than which Pokemon can appear in random battles and the obvious type effectiveness.

    1. They put this fucking weather feature that means nor adds SHIT in the grand scheme of things over trading or battling with other users who are losing interest and leaving Go everyday, is very fucked up.

        1. 1. My ass 2. It’s bullshit we had to wait 2 fucking years for a feature that should’ve been there since minute one and 3. No, by the time the next Pokemon game comes on Switch, that’s when they’ll decide to put it in. By then, it’s too late and I bet it would be dysfunctional and take about…7 months of worthless updates to patch it. I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.

    1. Yeah. Can’t wait to play Go in the rain to see if it also rains in the game while risking my device from getting water damage that surely isn’t covered by any warranty you got. :3

        1. 1. They’re not waterproof. They’re “resistant” up to 5-6 feet for 30 minutes and 2. They’re not recommended and guaranteed to protect the device…STILL. 3. The only big mobile phones I know that are water RESISTANT is iPhone and Samsung. If they were RESISTANT up to 150 feet like the Apple Watches, THEN you can say “waterproof” but still, only up to 30 minutes of submergence.

          Also, weather mechanics in the Pokemon games since Hoenn hardly change/does a goddamn thing.

  2. The fact that they put fucking weather feature in before the highly demanded Trading/Battling function is speaking in great volume: Niantic doesn’t give a fuck what the fans want.
