It Sounds As Though Super Mario Odyssey Has Shifted 5 Million Copies

The brilliant Super Mario Odyssey on the Nintendo Switch has been performing extremely well worldwide. We haven’t had concrete numbers for a while, but a recent interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime suggests that the 3D platformer has shifted five million copies worldwide. It’s managed to reach this milestone after just a month and two weeks, as noted by Reset Era member Toni Codrea.

The lineup of Nintendo-published games also has fueled fueling Switch sales, Fils-Aime said. Three titles have been purchased by more than 50% of Switch owners: “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” — which won game of the year at the 2017 Game Awards — “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” and “Super Mario Odyssey.” Another title, third-person shooter “Splatoon 2,” has been purchased by one in four Switch owners, he said.

      1. Oh I’m absolutely serious. The vast majority of the game requires no skill whatsoever, and is little more than a scavenger hunt without clues. It’s more a digital tour of their worlds than it is a “game”, up until the end game when they add some content with a little meat on its bones.

      2. Sounds like you’re just not a fan of the 3D collect-a-thon format in general. That’s not an issue with the game, that’s a personal preference. Some of the most highly regarded games of all time (Odyssey excluded) followed the same format.
