Nintendo debuted a new Nintendo Direct Mini video presentation today spotlighting a selection of first- and third-party titles coming in early 2018. Following a strong holiday season, Nintendo Switch owners will see a variety of new games and content arriving in the next few months, including DARK SOULS: REMASTERED, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Tennis Aces and Kirby Star Alliesgames, and a certain green-clad brother bringing a new mode to the Super Mario Odyssey game.
“Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling home console in history, and Nintendo is not taking our foot off the gas in 2018,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “For the millions of people who just received Nintendo systems as gifts, or consumers getting ready to join the growing community of Nintendo Switch owners, Nintendo and our third-party partners have fun new games and content in store at retail or for digital purchase.”
The full Nintendo Direct Mini presentation can be viewed at https://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/01-11-2018/. A sampling of some of the announcements includes:
DARK SOULS™: REMASTERED: The first title in the genre-defining action role-playing franchise is coming to Nintendo Switch. DARK SOULS: REMASTERED includes the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, as well as improved framerate and resolution from the original DARK SOULS game for an exhilarating return to Lordran. This marks the franchise’s debut on a Nintendo platform, and now for the first time ever, this revered (and challenging) game can be played on the go. DARK SOULS: REMASTEREDlaunches on May 25.
Mario Tennis Aces: A new Mario Tennis game is bringing a new level of skill and competition to Nintendo Switch. Mario steps onto the court in classy tennis garb for intense rallies against a variety of characters in full-blown tennis battles. New wrinkles in tennis gameplay will challenge your ability to read an opponent’s position and stroke to determine which shot will give you the advantage. And this time the game adds the first story mode since the Mario Tennis game on Game Boy Advance, offering a new flavor of tennis gameplay, with a variety of missions and boss battles. The game launches for Nintendo Switch this spring.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze: Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong return for the franchise’s debut on Nintendo Switch. This title includes all the fun and challenge of the original game, plus a new beginner-friendly mode that lets players enjoy this critically acclaimed adventure as groovy surfing simian Funky Kong. Funky Kong can double jump, hover, perform infinite rolls and even perform infinite underwater corkscrews. Thanks to his sturdy surfboard, even spikes can’t slow him down. The game launches for Nintendo Switch on May 4.
Kirby Star Allies: Kirby’s debut on Nintendo Switch is a grand new adventure packed with content. The new Artist ability lets Kirby unleash his creativity, while the new Spider ability lets him ensnare enemies in webs. Kirby also can hurl new friend hearts at enemies to win them over with love and add them to his party. Plus, up to four friends* can team up and combine Kirby’s unique abilities with ally abilities for powerful new Friend Abilities. The game launches for Nintendo Switch on March 16.
The World Ends with You: Final Remix: This 2008 Nintendo DS game has been updated for Nintendo Switch with HD visuals and a new epilogue that sheds new light on the game’s story. Players can join rhythmic battles using either Joy-Con controllers or the Nintendo Switch touch screen. The game is scheduled to launch this year.
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition: A new, ultimate version of the exhilarating action game set in the Zelda universe will include every map and mission, plus all 29 playable characters from both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game, along with all of the previous paid downloadable content. Play as Link, Zelda, Midna, Skull Kid and dozens more in action-packed battles at home or on the go. Additionally, the game includes new outfits for Link and Zelda based on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game. This new version launches for Nintendo Switch in spring.
SNK HEROINES ~Tag Team Frenzy~: Play as iconic heroines from SNK’s history in a new, two-on-two tag-team fighting game. Players can activate a variety of Special Moves with the press of a button, and make use of special items to turn the tide of battle. One of the competitors will be Yuri Sakazaki from ACA NEOGEO Art of Fighting 2, which launches today in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch. SNK HEROINES ~Tag Team Frenzy~launches on Nintendo Switch this summer.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana: When the passenger liner he was aboard sank, the adventurer Adol drifted to a deserted island inhabited by vicious creatures that have evolved in many different ways. To survive, Adol must gather fellow shipwreck survivors and build a base. High-speed battles require players to change between three types of characters at a moment’s notice. The epic RPG launches for Nintendo Switch this summer.
PAYDAY 2: As players join with friends* locally or online to execute elaborate heists, full touch-screen support makes menu navigation easier than ever, while the HD Rumble feature lets them feel everything from explosions to weapon recoil right in their hands. Debuting in the Nintendo Switch version of the game, a new playable character named Joy will be introduced. Joy is a Japanese computer whiz who wears a custom LED light mask that changes her appearance as she sees fit. PAYDAY 2 launches for Nintendo Switch on Feb. 27.
Fe: In this new type of platforming adventure, players run, climb and glide their way through a dark Nordic forest to explore its living, breathing world. Use the motion controls of the Joy-Con controllers to sing in tune with creatures and plants to unlock new abilities. Each song has a distinct sound and feel thanks to HD Rumble. The game launches digitally for Nintendo Switch on Feb. 16.
Celeste: This modern take on the pure action platformer lets Madeline climb any surface on Celeste Mountain if she has the stamina. Playing in Assist Mode lets players tweak the difficulty, from a slower pace to full-on invincibility. Unlockable B-side chapters offer even more challenging adventures. The game launches digitally for Nintendo Switch on Jan. 25.
Game Updates & DLC
Super Mario Odyssey: A new mini-game called Balloon World is coming to one of the highest-rated games of all time. Once players download the free update and complete the main story, Balloon World will become available. In “Hide It” mode, players have a certain amount of time to hide a balloon. In “Find It” mode, players have the same amount of time to locate balloons hidden by other players from around the world. Players can move up the rankings** by finding hidden balloons and becoming expert hiders. The free update will be released in February with new Snapshot Mode filters and new outfits.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: A new hero swings into action! Donkey Kong is headed to the game as a playable character, complete with an exclusive new storyline and world to explore. The DLC pack will release in spring and will be available for purchase individually, or as part of the Season Pass or Gold Edition of the game.
Pokkén Tournament DX Battle Pack: The Battle Pack is now available for purchase in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch and includes two Waves of Battle Pokémon and Avatar items. Wave 1 will be available Jan. 31, and Wave 2 is scheduled for Mar. 23.

Kirby: Battle Royale: The free demo is available in Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
Dragon Quest Builders: The free demo is available today in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch.

||You are welcome Agato…||
(just) Decent line-up. No Metroid, no Pokémon, no Pikmin, no Fire Emblem, no other big franchises (Kirby? Ok, but…).
Why list DLCs? So many remasters and very few new games. Octopath not even properly publicized.
Personally interested in three/four of them but not exactly something exciting.
Happy for Mario Tennis, that’s what I needed, I see your ‘welcome’. ^^
Still welcome? :P
||Keep in mind that this was a Nintendo Direct Mini, we have to save our true weapons for E3 and beyond…||
||Although there will be about one bigger Direct before E3 and possibly a smaller one too…||
E3 is six months away, better to show all big stuff for the first half year, like they did with the Switch announcement where they actually enticed the players, players can be alarmed by crumbs, while the whole bread looks appetizing (all stuff for the first half of the year, not the whole year).
||The slav-Nintendites are always hungry, we must keep them in our grasp at all times, even if it means temporary irrelevant tantrums…||
Sometimes can be counterproductive. Keep level high. ;)
||Everything is a risk, the only certainty however is that we have learned significantly from the failure of the Empire…||
||But we did give you the weapon you requested, I’m sure that’s sufficient for now…||
Yes, anyway I’ve lot of games already and some indies will get released along. Octopath, Tennis, Ys, Kirby and DK are all on my radar… will see what I will buy then. Hope Tennis will be good (better than the last).
all of this got announced just when my older son came out of the closet :)
I believe we didn’t need to know that…
But congrats! That was brave.
Nintendo directs gets me out of the closets too.
No one is interested in your sons sexuality. What a stupid thing to post here.
You could’ve ignored it.
Is he single?
Oh myyyy…
As far as i know, yes
||Why do humans hide in closets?…||
Closets are portals to Narnia, that’s why, saludos!!!
This is it?……
This is only the beginning. Stay tuned…
I was definitely surprised by ys8 coming to switch. I’ll definitely buy that one good thing I never got to it on the ps4
Looks more interesting than Xenoblade to my eye, but don’t know about the game, will wait for reviews.
Well you don’t really have to wait it’s out now for ps4 and Vita. It’s a real time action rpg, and a pretty good series but Xenoblade trumps it for me. They have different gameplay styles though so you can’t really compare that much
Looks a bit faster than Xenoblade, also art direction far better. Xeno looks so boring.
Yes it definitely is a lot faster. It’s an action rpg the combat is a lot faster and not turn based. They are two different games though, the only comparison is that they are RPGs. People that enjoy Xenoblade are not going into it expecting an action rpg. They play to explore the world and enjoy the story. Personally, I love them both.
I’m bathing in the salty tears of the people who overhype themselves EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. a direct is announced. Honestly they are gluttons for punishment. What were you expecting, Nintendo to reveal their entire hand in a 14 minute “mini” Direct? I was very satisfied with it. Temper your expectations.
Man, this Direct came out of nowhere (and at an odd hour). And I’m glad I had low expectations.
It SUCKS that there’s a new Mario Tennis instead of a Mario Golf or Baseball. Who cares about Tennis?
I also have mixed feelings about Wii U games being released on the Switch, complete with all DLC. I always hated how companies did that on the PS3 and PS4. You know, releasing complete editions later, after most people already own the original releases. It’s both cool and crappy at the same time. Now Nintendo has been doing that. And I knew they would. It almost makes me feel like skipping games when they first release, just so I can get the complete editions later. Since I never buy DLC (unless it’s free).
In this case though most people DIDN’T buy the Wii U. Kind of sucks for people that did though.
Meh, Im double dipping on DK when I get a chance. Plus as you mentioned, not that many Wii U’s were sold, and even less copies of these game ever made it to homes, so if it gives a chance for more people to play them, then so be it.
don’t agree. bought the WiiU, loved it and had the chance to play through these games like 3-4 years ago. I really appreciate the fact that more people get the chance to play stuff like Tropical Freeze now as it’s a great game. Just like I really loved MK8D on th Switch as the original was just a behemoth in that series and so few people had the chance to really experience this. So much potential seemingly wasted. These games didn’t do anything wrong, they didn’t deserve to be published on that system … ok yeah, I still love the WiiU, but I can’t ignore the fact that it just looks like Switch’s ugly twin brother that got banished to the attic years ago.
The thing with the Wii U ports is not a lot of people have played the games due to how the console sold. I am glad some of them are re-releasing so more people can experience them.
Excited for a few of them myself and will be re buying some of them as they were some of my favourite games!
It stings though that there is no upgrade program for wii U owners like for 15/20 euro I’d upgrade to mk8 and now donkey kong
not exactly “out of nowhere” there tons of hints and rumors that there will be one today. i was surprised there was no announcement though
Dude. Mario Tennis > Mario Golf and Baseball :D
All wrong. Mario Strikers > EVERY eSPORT OUT THERE.
Tennis was always the star sports game for me and I was under the impression that was their biggest one. Wasn’t that the most popular sports title on the 64? So it’s got the nostalgia factor for the the 30 somes that are rediscovering Nintendo after being absent last generation. I’m fine without a Golf for a bit because Golf Story scratched that itch, and I’d prefer Strikers over Baseball. At any rate, that was the most exciting title on the list for me, assuming they can return to form after the last few crappy sports releases.
I bought the original Mario Tennis on N64. And I could never get into it. I lost interest before unlocking everything. Therefore I never bought another Mario Tennis game. Mario Strikers was even worse for me. I only played that for a little while and hated it. Then never touched it again.
Mario Golf will always be my favorite Mario sports game (followed by Baseball). I like how relaxing Golf is. Inbetween strokes, you can relax while awaiting your turn. In tennis, you don’t even get a chance to blink. I HATE that! I also love the physics of golf, having to aim, judge the wind, landscape etc. And being in nature. Lush green grass and trees, and water. I get none of these things in tennis. The fact that the last major Mario Golf game was on Gamecube is a travesty. The 3DS game doesn’t count.
Hey I get that. Mario Tennis and Golf are two very different games and everyone’s got a favorite. But I can’t fault Nintendo for prioritizing their better seller: I just looked and Tennis sold a million more than golf did on the N64 (I can’t find numbers on GameCube). I like arcade sports games so the Mario ones are all great to me. My wife’s family would play the crap out of Strikers when we were kids and I would jump in all the time, which makes me want to see another good one.
I care about tennis. -.-
Would have cared about baseball too.
OH MY FUCKING GOD DARK SOULS CAN’T BELIEVE THEY DID IT HSHDKFBSNSGRIEKJDHDHDJSKAKAKAKSJSKSKKSKSKSDB!!!!!!
STARTS PRAISING THE FUCKING SUN
IF ONLY IWATA-SAMA CAN SEE THIS
tennis has always been the only good mario sport tbh
Tennis is one of the WORST! Right along with soccer.
You have terrible taste in almost everything it seems
Kaboom baby and that’s only a mini direct. I’m happy for all of those news and also I loved the porting of the Wii U games which give me some hope for Star Fox Zero coming to the Switch
||Starfox Zero Deluxe will be coming later this year, probably around Q3 as it currently is planned…||
Thank you Commander
}{ I think the zero in the title is in reference to how many people enjoyed it… }{
On the Wii U. Let’s see if it will be the same on the Switch
||Perhaps it did, but The First Order will make it to be the opposite once High Command releases an enhanced version…||
I’d love to see any STar Fox anywhere. Don’t listen to Evil Commander. Party pooper.
Would have been better to wait a bit, erase DLC and put in some more good games.
To me the direct wasn’t so bad
Not bad, no. Just decent. A very good one is always better, higher morale and less mocking by haters.
Yeah but we will get a good direct very soon. This mini direct was only a taste of what’s coming next. Something tells me there will be another direct very soon
Fifteen minutes of good stuff. No complaints here.
Really hyped for Dark Souls and Kirby.
I knew Kirby would have to be releasing soon.
I never got around to trying The World Ends with You, so I’ll probably get the Final Remix.
Mario Tennis… I’ll keep an open mind, but the series has been kinda stale for me after Power Tennis. It at least looks better than Ultra Smash.
The free Odyssey DLC looks fun.
More Wii U ports is not surprising. Tropical Freeze is my favorite DKC game, I’m glad it’ll have the chance to be played by more people now. Funky Kong looks super overpowered though lol, I’m guessing he’ll be the go-to character for speedruns and people who think the game is too hard. And I’ll probably pick up the Hyrule Warriors port since it actually has all the content from the 3DS version. Plus it’s higher res and all that jazz.
The Pokken DLC looks good, but I’m curious how much it’ll cost. I may get it for Blastoise alone if it’s not overpriced.
Not too interested in anything else they showed, maybe Ys, but it depends on what else is releasing at the time.
I’m not surprised there wasn’t anything huge, considering they just dropped the mini direct online out of nowhere.
When they remade DKC Returns for 3DS they added an easy mode for people who can’t handle the original game. Here they just made it seems like it isn’t an easy mode when that’s exactly why they put Funky in.
Never bought Hyrule Warriors so this ultimate version could be cool. Idk about DK. I would’ve loved a bundle with Returns as well but this game was really fun by itself too… Maybe I will double dip.
Oh, and 3DS is sidelined once again. Sure you’re supporting Nintendo. Sure ;)
Sidelined? Just because they didn’t have anything in this direct? Several 3DS games have been released over the past few months.
Remakes, a Mario Party collection, and what’s confirmed to be the last Pokémon games on the system. Oh and some Kirby spinoffs.
I also meant big news wise. Last E3 it was sidelined and once again in this Direct.
So many people who doubted me that it’s on its way out will be eating crow :)
Well of course I agree it’s on the way out. Thing is 6+ years old. We can’t expect the same calibur of games we got in its youth (Metroid being the exception), but Nintendo is still supporting it. It’s not like they were lying or anything. We shouldn’t expect it to be getting just as much spotlight as the brand new Switch.
It’s the same things they said about DS not replacing GBA and more recently NX not replacing Wii U (yes, really). It’s understandable as they still want to sell systems to the uninformed masses. When I see people her falling for it though it’s hilarious to me.
honestly Nintendo didn’t really have a bunch of their own games for the switch either. Most of the games announced were made by a 3rd party, a port from the Wii u, or Mario tennis (which i bet wasn’t that hard of a game to make). If you really want to call the 3ds dead then the switch is dead too. From today the only games that are confirmed for 2018 are ports, Mario tennis, and a fire emblem game. Not a lot of Nintendo games are really announced this year. So how about we hold off on calling the 3ds dead?
And yet we know about games like Kirby Star Allies, Yoshi, Bayonetta 1+2, Pokémon, Metroid Prime 4, the next Zelda already starting development, and surely whatever Retro’s been working on is now a Switch game. Those are just the games we know are happening.
What does the 3DS have? Kirby Battle Royale in a few days and they only gave it a few seconds to mention. The rest of this year’s Directs and E3 itself will likely focus on Switch as well. Keep trying pal ;)
The point I’m trying to make is thats it’s way to early to say that the 3ds is dead. There is currently rumors that there is a link’s awakening inspired top-down zelda game coming to the 3ds. Hey that is a pretty big game for the 3ds if it comes out
If that comes out I’ll be shocked.
Oh just another thing that proves my point is that detective pikachu is coming in march. More games are coming, they just need to be annouced
A game that released in Japan last year and is really late in localization just like the third party games coming.
It came out two years ago in Japan actually.
The fact is more nintendo published 3ds games are still on their way.
A game where the only effort needed is translation, ergo, a very small project. Tell me when they announce something on the level of like Mario 3D Land or A Link Between Worlds (spoiler alert: they won’t.)
Even if a super mario odyessy 2 did come out on the 3ds you would still say the 3ds would be dead next year. Let’s face it we really just have to agree to disagree (though i still do like to argue with you just for the hell of it)
No I wouldn’t. I would be shocked and question Nintendo’s frankly retarded logic with such a move but I wouldn’t deny the facts.
anyway the poor still stands the 3ds is still being supported. Nintendo has said so and so far they haven’t lied
Keep trusting them. They’ve done this song and dance before.
I won’t be holding my breath for any huge game announcements for 3DS but who am I to stop you from disappointment. Plus if you keep trusting I get to pull the “I told you so” so it’s a win win for me no matter what you decide :)
but when they do pull a big game announcement i get to do the same :D
Keep dreaming buddy.
They’ve had plenty of chances to prove the 3DS’s relevancy alongside the Switch for over a year now and have failed to deliver, hence declining 3DS sales while the Switch kills it in sales. Its easy for anyone to see what’s going on. Even the wider consumer market caught on as to where Nintendo’s focus is.
actually the 3ds sales in 2017 surpassed 2016 sales. Also the fact of the matter is I never said the 3ds is nintendo’s main focus obviously it’s not nor should it be. but my point is that the 3ds is not dead for the time being and nintendo still sees it as their second handheld system for now.
||Whatever anyone thinks about the 3DS, it is not going anywhere until it starts to sell below 10,000 units worldwide like I said a few days ago, period…||
Dark souls, ideal looks good and I’ve never played it so look forward to that.
Tropical freeze, I honestly thought we’d get a hd remake bundle of the DK games. I don’t really wanna pay £40 for this again even though it’s brilliant.funky kongs ok I Spose for kids to try and play it.
AND not even a glimpse of metriod. ( boo)!
I also want to see Metroid Prime 4 but they are saving it for E3 most probably. Also I want to know if Retro Studios is working on a 3D Donkey Kong. That could be the reason of why they’re so quiet in these last years.
Metroid will be only shown at E3, not in a quick and sudden Direct.
FINALLY with a new scenario for TWEWY!
Welp I’m set until juli this year
Who really wants hyrule warriors again?? But oh well, this is a decent amount of information
Me
I want it.
Even though I have the game on both, 3ds and Wii U.
Though I do hope they do not get greedy with pricing.
I’ve never bought it so I think it might be cool.
Wow! All the Wii U re-releases, what a twist!
Wow all 2 of them!!!!
Will get Donkey Kong and Hyrule Warriors
Two excellent games that I am glad got ported.
Why Hyrule? That game is dull and repetitive as hell. DKC, yes. I liked it but stopped mid way because the Pii U bored me to death and then came 2015 E3.
I beat Hyrule Warriors on the 3ds and Wii U already
I love the playstyle, music and the controls are easy.
Yeah, so easy that it takes no effort to slash through an orgy of enemies that realistically can overwhelm your ass in battle but doesn’t. lol
Play one of the games on hard or very hard at low levels and you’ll see just how “easy” the Warriors/Musou games really are.
I’m mainly disappointed. I probably shouldn’t expect much but for the first direct of the year, it seems rather sad. No new surprising games, mainly ports, disapointing DLC. Only a small amount of somewhat interesting things. Then again, what is with the “mini” word? Are they already making a full direct soon?
I’m only really interested in Mario Tennis Aces, the story mode adds a lot.
Story mode..in a tennis game…that makes as much sense as making a trilogy movie based on Tetris, a game series with no plot.
The GBC and GBA titles were pretty decent though, you should try it out.
It’s tennis. I played it more times than I can count. Nothing special or different.
Such a bitter attitude.
I don’t understand the disappointment. For a 15 minute video, this had tons of cool news. I wouldn’t expect the major title announcements to be done here.
SNK, what the fuck? Pokken DLC? Lame as hell. Dragon Quest Builders?…not what the fans wanted to see. Mario & Rabbids? Who still fucking cares? Mario Odyssey DLC…with Luigi as a balloon mode host and not a playable character? How disappointing. The news that mattered is DKC port and Dark Souls..DARK FUCKING SOULS ON SWITCH! That’s probably the only best news out of all of them. I told ya people not to get hyped because most of them is gonna be crap and careless.
Only Wii U port I really want anymore, is Project Zero.
The physical edition is going up from 100€ for unsealed.
And since Bayonetta Switch announcement, I have been wanting to get rid of my Wii U, most games can now be played with other platforms.
Fatal Frame 5 for Wii U ported to Switch would be great. IF it does get ported, hopefully they give every region both the Japanese AND American alternate costumes. Nothing more annoying than censoring a game rated M for Mature. “But the characters are 16-17!” Fucking so!? Plenty of movies in the 80s featured teenagers (in the story) NAKED, for fuck’s sake! But no! Apparently “teenagers” in their underwear is far more horrible than “teenagers” naked! *cough* Sorry! I see I’m still not over that bullshit. lol
How can they censored an M rated game when you have Zero Suit Samus suit as sexy and the girls are underage pedo. lol
I know you’re joking & just messing with me so…
I’m really pleased, lots of good stuff for me to look forward to over the next few months and this is only what’s been shown now. Plenty to play. Will get tropical freeze again as I love that game but not hyrule warriors as I didn’t like it, fe warriors is far better imo.
I would maybe consider Hyrule Warriors if they just gave you the option to transfer levels. Way too much grinding to start on scratch.
Good god I wasn’t expecting that TWEWY announcement. It looks so much better with these updated visuals w e w
Just what the Switch needs, another disappointing, cash grabbing, Mario Sports game
Dude, Dark Souls is coming and you know how many people wanted to see that game on the Switch? Plenty. X3
NSW 2018 so far is rather weak, just releases of old games avaible on 10 other platforms. It reminds me of PS4 first 1-3 years, strong sales, no original games. At least Switch has Zelda and Mario, well Zelda is on Wii u and cemu, but still
Tropical Freeze is the best Wii U title hands down. if there was one wii u title that needs to be ported to the Switch it is DK Tropical Freeze.
This is he third time Hyrule Warriors finds a new home on aNintendo System, at this rate it seems a bit too much. With rehashing Wii U games and releasoing them on Switch, Nintendo could be sending the wrong message. I wish this does not become a habit and re-releasing games happens on a more sporadic schedule, and only for worthy games.
Happy about everything else such as Kirby and Mario Tennis, Dark Souls which i can’t wait to to try my hands on. I expected to see more Yoshi since its release window is H1 2018 but oh well. This is actually a lot of games for a “Mini” Direct.
It’s actually business as usual for Koei Tecmo, the guys that developed Hyrule Warriors. Warriors Orochi 3 was released on PS3, an updated game called Hyper was released to Wii U, & then a second updated game called Ultimate was released to PS3, Vita, PS4, Xbox One, Switch. (A Switch port was released in November.)
Hyrule Warriors makes more sense to be on Switch than it ever did on New 3DS, which can *barely* handle it.
What I’m worried about is it eating into Fire Emblem Warriors’ sales, or vice versa, or that it will “oversaturate” the market of Warriors games on Switch.
I love the Warriors/Musou franchise so it won’t be an issue for me if the Switch gets dozens of them.
I’ve got several on my PS4.
Why am I so excited about all the DK content? I loved DKTF and I’m ecstatic DK is coming to Mario + Rabbids!
Did you notice that this Donkey Kong looks a lot like the one from 64? I think this a hint that a 3D DK game will come in the future.
The one from Mario + Rabbits Kingdom Battle*
As long as the wii u ports are kept down in price, I think it’s a decent mini direct.
I’m very happy that Nintendo is re-releasing Wii U games on Switch! This time with ALL DLC! Heh heh maybe being broke and waiting for the best time buy stuff isn’t so bad after all :D Now just need to get a switch…
Something tells me Star Fox Zero is likely getting ported along with Smash Bros. 4 which THAT one I don’t mind.
I know there’s not a lot of love for the ports, but Nintendo has been porting all the titles I was on the fence on and skipped: Pokken, DK, and Hyrule Warriors are things I’ll probably snag. I’d rather see those ports than Smash or Mario Maker, because I’d rather they just focus on full blown sequels on those.
Can anyone make a good, convincing argument for Fire Emblem Warriors game play over Hyrule Warriors? Am I wrong in thinking I should just get Hyrule? I don’t think I’d buy both and Zelda wins hands down with its setting for me.
Hyrule Warriors >Fire emblem warriors
I put 15 hours in fe just enough to finish it and pretty much rushed through it and never looked back. Overall it was just stale In comparison to HW. Not to mention there is wayyyyyy more variety in characters and outfits in HW.
Good to see Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze in Nintendo Switch as this game deserve to sell more. Also it’s good to see Hyrule Warriors with the Zelda and Link of the Breath of the Wild appearance. I will buy it again to finally play it in HD as I only have the 3DS version.
Dark Souls is coming?! NOW ITS ON LIKE DONKEY KONG BITCHES! XD
Horray for u
I said it back during the Switch’s early days that Koei Tecmo would release Hyrule Warriors to Switch; they released Warriors Orochi 3 two more times after the original game (Hyper for Wii U & Ultimate for PS3, PSV, PS4, XBO, & Switch.)
Since it’s being called the Definitive Edition, it should be coming with the content the 3DS version has. If not & it’s just the Wii U version, pfft.
*finally gets around to watching the trailer for it* Oh good! It does come with all of the 3DS content. Well I’ll be sure to buy it if I have a new Switch by Spring considering I have to buy a new one as my original one was lost in a fire (along with almost everything else I fucking own. Forgot to grab the damn thing when I was grabbing my 3ds, laptop, ps4, & external HDD as I only grabbed what I could see as my Switch was further under the TV stand where I couldn’t see it.)
Well more like if I even bother buying a new Switch. (It’ll depend on my mood & if I like what the paid online ends up being revealed to be.)
Kalas, boy…

Kick ass direct honestly. When you think this is just a fraction of what is coming this year … This pretty much covers what coming in the first quarter and it’s pretty impressive. My bank account aches but It will get some tax cash soon 😋
I knew not to get hyped for anything from directs. They’re usually full of crap and disappointments with one or two surprises like Dark Souls coming to the Switch. Now THATS a reveal to get hyped for. DKC Tropical Freeze, is nice to see it come to the Switch and I sorta saw this coming. Now we know for sure Nintendo is planning to Port more Wii U games over. I’m looking at you Star Fox Zero Fucks To Give. lol
Are you done sucking yourself off?
This was a pretty okay direct. I’m excited for all the first party games announced here – I’m gonna have a blast playing Donkey Kong and Hyrule Warriors again, I’ll probably enjoy Kirby and I’m ready to be pleasantly surprised by Mario Tennis.
i just… I just think there should’ve been one. One bigger announcement. I think (???) they tried to pass Dark Souls as the “big one”, but that didn’t really do it for me. I’m not asking for Smash, or Mario Maker, or Metroid, or Pokemon, or anything like that. Just… Animal Crossing, or Pikmin, even showing off gameplay for Bayonetta 3 or Octopath, or something completely different, completely unexpected. Something that makes headlines. “The new Tomb Raider after Rise is coming this year… and it’s exclusive to Nintendo Switch???”. Maybe I’m entitled. I don’t know.

I was happy with the Direct, and didn’t buy the hype. We have solid release dates from now until March, and Japanese release dates for most of the titles listed “Spring” in the US. We’ll probably get one more mini-Direct before E3 in June – laying out solid dates for everything in Q2, and giving some hints about the rest of the year.
E3 should be explosive.
I’m expecting a March direct will pick up where this left off and the main highlight would be about the Switch Online compatibility with minor updates about upcoming games and possibly a new teaser.
SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy must be one of the most disappointing games ever. They seem to have everything to port The King of Fighters XIV and instead decided to make a strange fighting game for girls. I don’t know if girls like fighting games, but I don’t think they will like them more with this :/. Or what else is it for?
Supah dissapoint :( no new games just ports of old games at full price :(… Still no VC news :( nothing Metroid, F-ZERO or Starfox, no pikmin 4, no hardware stuffs… So far 2018 is dull lol
Still no SMASH BROS 4 NINTENDO!!! WHAT THE HELL!?!???!
But for real, this was a mini direct? dropping bombs with all this new shit :D
Why did this site put a limit on replies? I wanted to correct a mistake in one of my earlier comments, but couldn’t. Then I wanted to tell someone off, and couldn’t. LOL! I just hate it when someone accuses me of something that I’m always thinking about everbody else. I’m talking to you, P Edwards.
I think Nintendo should pull back on all the ports- half the games they’ve released for Switch are ports or dual releases.
That said, I’m glad third parties are starting to bring their games over- I just bought Doom for Switch and am trying to motivate myself to play Skyrim again, and I have Bayonetta 2 (with the download code for 1) preordered for Switch. So I’m set until Prime 4 or a new F-Zero, whichever comes first.
||No, but they should cut the price by 50% on all ports, especially direct ports with no to minimal changes…||
Man first Nintendo Direct presentation of 2018 and it’s only 15 minutes. Good reveals though, and some more good news here: https://mynintendonews.com/2018/01/12/a-senior-analyst-at-smbc-nikko-is-predicting-pokemon-smash-bros-animal-crossing-switch-news-around-march/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
I can’t believe that over the past few years there’s only been 2 Major Directs throughout, which may still be the case in the coming year. Man the lack of news when fans could use it. 2013 did a great job with such, no other year carried over though.
Yeah. Ever since Iwata passed way, the Directs have taken a back seat. They’re too few, and never as good anymore. Heck, we don’t even get to see Reggie nearly as much now as we used to.
For me, the less we see of & hear from Reggie, the better.
I been asking for Pikmin 4 the last 3 years. If they ever show all cheers
