Nintendo’s Lists A 2019 Launch For Their Nintendo Switch Paid Online Service (Update: It Was A Typo)

Update: Nintendo has updated the article. The date was, indeed, a typo. 2018 is now listed.

Nintendo’s paid online service for Switch has been in the works for a while, and it has been delayed once already. And now, new developments are suggesting that it may be getting delayed again. Nintendo has a new post on their official website, and it briefly mentions the console’s paid online service. However, the launch of the service is now slated to be in 2019. There’s still room to argue otherwise. It could be a typo. If it is, then we’ll just have to wait and see if Nintendo corrects it or clarifies what was said some time in the future.

*Nintendo Account required. Online services and features. including online gameplay, are free until the paid Nintendo Switch Online Service launches in 2019.

  1. TBH at this point Nintendo should give up the idea, there would be too much backlash from people angry that they suddenly have to pay to use a service that’s been free for quite some time.

    1. That’s what the launch of the virtual console alongside the online service is for. Yes, now you have to pay for online, but look, free classic Nintendo games, now with online support.

  2. If you visit the website again » “*Nintendo Account required. Online services and features. including online gameplay, are free until the paid Nintendo Switch Online Service launches in 2018.”

  3. Typo – phew. From the same site:

“*Nintendo Account required. Online services and features. including online gameplay, are free until the paid Nintendo Switch Online Service launches in 2018.”

  4. Nintendo Acount required.

    Switch Online Service launches in
    2118.”

  7. Do we have to pay for access to eShop (where we already pay for games). Do you also have to pay, just to update your system?

Scared the shit out of me for a minute there! I hate the idea of waiting til sometime in 2019 to know if I’ll replace the Switch I lost in a fire or not, so I’m glad it was a typo. I hope we don’t have to wait too long in 2018, though, to find out what the paid online will come with. I better like whatever they fully reveal about paid online or I’ll pass on replacing my Switch til it’s under 200 bucks. If it’s not on par with PS4’s paid online, I’m out til that price cut or til their next system.
