The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now the second-highest-selling Zelda title after The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64. Ocarina of Time, which launched in 1998, is still the highest-selling but The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild could soon catch up to it. Here are the facts, outlined by Reset Era member Ishaan:
- As of last week, the game has sold 957,752 units in Japan at retail
- This figure only accounts for retail sales, so the number is even higher when accounting for digital sales
- This figure also does not represent the latest sales figures for the Wii U version
- Ocarina of Time has sold approximately 1.25 million units in Japan
- The previous second-highest-selling Zelda was Phantom Hourglass (2007) at 907,821 units sold
Excellent.
So the last one was Ocarina of Time? Damn.
It will outsell Ocarina in time too – 100% in Japan and probably worldwide also. Bravo Nintendo, totally deserved.
Phantom Hourglass was a best selling game? Even with the horrible stylus controls? Those controls plagued Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
