Kimishima States That More Nintendo Games Will Be Having DLC And Events

Via a presentation published in focus of the company’s earnings, Nintendo President Kimishima detailed the company’s goals in regards to future titles and post-release content.

Explaining that as a company, “To promote longer gameplay for individual software titles, we plan to implement even more downloadable content and events that build
excitement for games.”

Examples presented as an initiation of this are the Splatfests for Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey’s Luigi Balloon World,  and the expansion pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

  1. Excited to see what they do. Something that instantly comes to mind is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Even though I’d really like a MK9. With more characters. I wouldn’t mind some updates even if it’s minor like cars or characters. But honestly Nintendo give me Animal Crossing already lol

    1. I have to agree~

Especially with the Animal Crossing remark. I too heavily desire a new Animal Crossing game.

I cannot play Pocket Camp, because I have a Windows Phone and lack the finances to replace it with a different phone, so a new mainseries Animal Crossing on the Nintendo Switch would be wonderful~ <3

But yeah, DLC and post-game content has been so far for the most part, been handled really well by Nintendo. Complete games with the extra stuff being optional, and not required to enjoy the full game. Would love to see them do what they did with Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U; add new characters and tracks as DLC, maybe even add in some older items back into the game from other installments.

And I can imagine AC Switch being updated as frequently as Splatoon 2, with new villagers, furniture, public works projects, etc… added all the time as free updates. Maybe even SOME (note some not all) being part of a pack that you have to pay for (Say, more game centered themed PWPs; I.E. Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, Pikmin, etc… themed public works projects.)

  2. Nintendo is one of few companies that has done dlc the right way as in when a game is released its complete and dlc is extra and unlike other companies like EA where they cut their games in half, sell them at full price and puts the rest of the game as dlc/season pass and microtransactions/toolboxes aka pay2win, Capcom is half and half on dlc, half their games are complete and other half are half games at full price.

    1. We all know this isn’t true…. Not to be a troll but it does get annoying how some say “Nintendo does this right.” Prior to the switch, it was constant Nintendo doesn’t charge blah for online that’s scummy of Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo sends out complete games, Nintendo doesn’t abuse ports they only port old games. Back when the rivals did it it it was used as fuel against them .

Fire emblem had doc abuse day one content locked behind paywall, hyrule warriors, fire emblem warriors. Lazy port jobs of Mario kart 8 and again hyrule warriors yes they aren’t made by Nintendo but they allowed the practice to go though and smash4’s dlc pricing. Botw champions ballad ect Nintendo always seems to get a pass with stuff like this and some of its fans hypocritical to the core. It gets really annoying

  3. Shocker. Not.

Oh well, as long as it’s worth the price tag. BotW’s DLC is terrible, so I’m hoping Xenoblade 2’s is better.

    1. It didn’t help that they showed off all but like 2 of them before the game came out; that was what left me underwhelmed with the game, was we already saw so much of it even though they said “don’t worry, there are many more kingdoms to discover.”

  4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe could have some great DLC packs based on prior releases. SNES Pack, N64 Pack, GCN Pack, Wii Pack, GBA Pack, DS Pack, 3DS Pack- all the courses from each game that aren’t already in MK8D! :)

  5. I would love to see Odyssey expanded with Luigi being playable as well as changing co-op for local/split screen, have Yoshi available in ALL Kingdoms while adding an option to ride him instead of just “possessing” him…also, let him swim in water, plus adding a few more kingdoms to explore like Haunted Kingdom with Boos and Fiery Kingdom with those lava things from Super Mario World/Bros. 4 along with Swoopers.

  6. I’d love some Mario 64 levels in Mario odyssey (what a hard word to write btw), with the different hats (metal hat, flying hat, invisible hat in there too, pls and doens’t taking in account the DS version too ^^’)
