Nintendo Is Continuing To Develop New Software For Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo has reconfirmed its commitment to the Nintendo 3DS in their latest financial briefing. The system continues to sell well so naturally the company says that it is continuing to develop new software for the platform.

“Although sales are trending lower than last year, the results from our seventh holiday season sales have maintained stable levels. As explained during the financial results briefing in October of last year, the Nintendo 3DS family of hardware has continued to sell steadily without significant fall-off, even after the release of Nintendo Switch.

Overall totals for 2017 were down compared to 2016 when Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon had globally intense sales levels, but exceeded 2015 in the US and European markets.

A multitude of titles across a wide variety of genres have been released for Nintendo 3DS, creating one of the strongest lineups ever. We are, of course, continuing to develop new software, but we believe it is important to leverage the rich library of Nintendo 3DS series titles to drive sales with Nintendo 3DS owners, as well as consumers who recently purchased Nintendo 3DS hardware.”

  1. So, where are they? Every new game you announce is for the Switch and during your earnings release when you showed the 2018 release schedule there were only two games other than Kirby for the 3DS.

    1. Also he says their biggest thing is leveraging already released games.

In other words, not many NEW games are part of their focus ;)

      1. The 4DS is getting Metriod 2.5D and Bayonetta side-story and Kid Icarus (New) and ports of Captain Toad & Paper Mario Color Splash.

              1. Nintendo says the Switch is too different from the 3DS in everyway and that around 95% of Switch owners have never owned a 3DS, but do own a PS4.

                  1. They said core RPG, so it might be like Gale of Darkness. Even if it ends up being 8th gen, they can still put 9th gen on 4DS and completely milk both markets, which would be typical of Nintendo.

                      1. Unreal engine 4 and the possibility of not making new pokemon for the Switch says otherwise. Core RPG is vague, and leaving out the word Main is weird. These people are to unpredictable. Rainbow will be exclusive to New 3DS on November 2019. Switch Pokemon in 2018 could get announced in June.

                          1. Not by No nor The Pokémon Company. With these people you need to expect the unexpected. The President of the Pokémon company made the statement. You shouldn’t assume the definitive form until its confirmed. Nintendo Labo anyone. Don’t let our bias for 8th gen on Home Console blind us. Don’t raise your expectations. At least the Switch is the future of Home Consoles for the 7 to 9 years Lifespan they have plan for Switch.

                    1. I haven’t even seen those rumors except for people commenting making me think the source is BS.

The Metroid one could easily be a Switch game approved after Samus Returns which means it is at least a 2019 title. I know you take every word said as gospel even when history isn’t on your side but I have a very hard time believing Nintendo will be releasing major 3DS games in 2019. They’re already starting ads that focus on the 2DS and old games adding fuel to the rumor that the New 3DS is on its way out. Face it. It’s done. Finito.

            1. Jesus Christ Nintendo, just retire this shit already and give 110% focus on the Switch like launch Virtual Console, give it a browser, system/party voice/text chat, launch a theme store, multimedia player and don’t stop offering quality 1st to 3rd party games.

              1. Shut up if hate the 3ds that’s fine don’t buy it problem solved. To be perfectly honest I’m already bored of my switch the 3ds has far more enjoyable games that hold my attention.

                1. I don’t asswipe. But there’s nothing else for it at this point and the Switch needs every last bit of attention to make it grow into a great console. 3DS had it’s time.

              2. Sorry but the switch is boring me now,the 3ds has had it’s time speak for yourself jackass.I want more games for the 3ds as the switch has dissapointed me so far with it’s broken third party games like doom. The audio is a total mess it cuts out completely and almost 3 months later it still hasn’t been patched yet for fucks sake so I stopped playing it.Also because of the old Wii U ports on switch as they’re games I already own.I can’t understand how the switch has outsold the Wii U when the Wii U has a way better games library overall compared to the switch.Nintendo needs to stop third party developers releasing broken third party games on the switch as we switch owners deserve far better.

                1. Since no one bought the Wii U they all think the titles being released are new, when in fact they’re just ports. It worked for them the first year, let’s see what the future holds.

                      1. And excuse me, Nintendo learned a lot last gen? lol They didn’t learn shit besides not forsaking the very hardcore life blood they arrogantly denied for over 10 years. What shook them up was 2015 being one terribly bad wake up call for many, like me, that just decided to say fuck it and Nintendo finally saw it.

                2. Haters gonna hate. Broken audio from Doom. Boo hoo! Bugs happen all the fucking time and the fix is coming dipshit. Something tells me the next update will be the same performance update as Rocket League. Also, one port and you’re talking shit about a system which doesn’t exactly showcase the software performances. It’s the other way around; the effort behind the software. You’re just fucking sad the way you criticize the system. What I would criticize of Switch is the lack of chat but that’s on Nintendo, not the system. Get it straight. 3DS is no better or superior. It has strengths and weaknesses like it’s 240p display. Nintendo had the chance to double it with new 3DS models with bumped up CPUs but didn’t and that so called “second analog stick” is almost useless as it is laughably tiny. Not to mention the new shoulder buttons, why add those if only a few games use it like the second analog?

Also, you sound like one of those fools denying how shit Pii U and it’s support is even after all this time it had almost nothing note worthy. Every other console, even the Vita, is better than that shit.

              3. Don’t worry, they’re going to release a 4DS And the successor to the Switch will also be the successor to the Wii U.

                  1. Nintendo said 2 times that for the 3DS they plan on releasing a separate successor, and one of the times they said it was after the release of the Switch. And the Switch is planned for a more then 6 year lifespan. They can do detachable dual screens with a Switch successor and make a Lite size model that shaves off the bottom part of the Joy-Cons.

                    1. I doubt it and detachable dual screens? Really? Also, if they update the 3DS, it’s only gonna hurt the Switch sales. Just let the 3DS die and have one system serve both ecosystems to maximize the library/profit margin as well as eliminating need of segregated work force for two platforms.

                      1. Over 90% of Switch owners never owned a 3DS, and Nintendo has merged its developers. They need a system with all the gimmicks that gets kids and low income consumers, which the Switch never sells to, as recently discovered by Nintendo. The demographics are just way too different.

                        1. Best way to target low income demographics with Switch is a price drop as well as ditching the Dock as a separate purchase (while also redesigning/price dropping said dock to $50). Price the Switch by $250 with a game or $200 standalone and it’ll be the sweet spot for them.

                          1. The games would need to be up to $30 and you need to slip it entirely in one pocket and have way longer battery life and weaker graphics to keep both development & cost of games down. This means needing a 4DS at a price somewhere from $130 to $170. Retail games ranging from $15 to $30.

                1. No because 1. I already bought a 3DS..multiple times and 2. There’s nothing left for the system and we need the Switch to have as much kick ass games as possible.

            2. Infinite Kalas X3, The Sonyendo King

More games would be nice. With the n3DS being able to do them better than the OG 3DS, why aren’t you guys slamming the n3DS with a shit ton of Virtual Console from NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, & DS? Oh & more remasters of N64 games to go alongside Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask? While I’d love for the 3DS to continue for another 2-3 years, you guys aren’t giving those that expect it to be thrown away in favor of Switch any reason to believe otherwise. With Pokemon moving on to Switch, why should anyone believe you intend to support the 3DS for another few years?

                1. Infinite Kalas X3, The Sonyendo King

That would certainly piss off the people that want Nintendo to focus solely on the Switch and all future home consoles that are just like it and let the handheld market die.
