SEGA Holdings Co., Ltd. today announced that SEGA of America, Inc., has reached a final agreement with Paramount Pictures to co-produce a Sonic the Hedgehog feature film, set for theatrical release beginning in the United States on November 15, 2019, then rolling out internationally to markets around the world.
This move represents an important next-step in the expansion of the Sonic the Hedgehog IP, bringing the character to new audiences globally. As part of the IP strategy for Sonic the Hedgehog, SEGA Group has been working to expand this character beyond the video game market to become an entertainment franchise. Recently, Sonic has appeared as an animated character on television, consumer products, console and mobile games, and more.
“I am very honored that our companies, SEGA and MARZA, have this incredible opportunity to partner with Paramount Pictures for this production, which will bring Sonic to the big screen for the first time. Since he was first introduced to the world 26 years ago, Sonic has continued to grow in popularity as part of our core strategy to focus on video games. In addition to video games, this provides SEGA with a fantastic opportunity to share Sonic with everyone and we can’t wait to reveal more to eager audiences in the future,” said SEGA Holdings Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Haruki Satomi.
Paramount Pictures will work closely with SEGA of America to bring Sonic to the big screen, said Jim Gianopulos, Chairman and CEO, Paramount Pictures.
“We are incredibly excited to work with SEGA to bring this iconic property and character to audiences around the world,” said Gianopulos. “We look forward to our partnership on this great venture.”
Planned for a worldwide release showcasing both live-action and CG animation elements, the feature film will be the first time Sonic has been adapted for the big screen. Developing the project since its inception as a producer as well as a production house, MARZA Animation Planet Co., Ltd., owned by SEGA Group, will be joined by an assembly of high-profile talent.
The film has signed on notable industry veterans including:
- Producer Neal H. Moritz from Original Film Inc. (“Fast and Furious” series)
- Director Jeff Fowler (Blur Studio, Academy Award® nominee for 2005 Best Animated Short Film “Gopher Broke.”)
- Executive producer Tim Miller (director of the Marvel/Fox feature “Deadpool” and owner of animation and CG production company Blur Studio)

Sonic the Hedgehog was first seen in 1991 on the SEGA Genesis. Since then, the character was inducted into the “World Video Game Hall of Fame” in 2016 at The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. Most recently, the popular franchise has seen two new hit releases in 2017, Sonic Mania™ and Sonic Forces™ (PlayStation® 4, Nintendo Switch™, Xbox One™, PC). Total sales of the series including both packaged and digital downloads count over 360 million units.

Steppenwolf deserved better, i really love the mythology behind the new gods series (IMO, best of jack Kirby’s creations) and yes supes was overpowered, the idea behind the league is that they should join to battle threats that are bigger than they…they should adapt the Grant Morrison’s run, that’s how you handle the league. Batman was so overpowered during that lame battle against superman in BvS. You should read the John Byrne’s run, he explained how kryptonian physiology works, something that people on warner and DC forgets, supes is strong but at that stage the new gods are stronger, I’d like to see a competent director to adapt all-star superman or DC one million, search about the golden god Superman, that’s the character at his prime!!
I liked when superman went to rescue civilians, people criticized that but remember that he did the same in the Christopher Reeve’s films, he stopped fighting against zod just to save people, that’s what superman does and failed to do in MoS, so for me that’s a highlight in JL.

The issue that they did was taking inspiration from Nolan (grim and gritty) and worst of all from Frank Miller. That concept work for batman and street level heroes such as green arrow. Snyder is an awesome visual artist but as a story teller he leaves much to be desired. Now no matter what they should have released his JL cut instead of that abomination.
I like aquaman, i enjoy characters that have such a rich mythology, there is more about characters like him and Superman for example but that’s just me, i am not going to force you to like what i do, but if you want to read aquaman i recommend you the grant Morison’s run on JLA and peter david’s aquaman run.

But if there’s something that sucks more than BvS I’d say it’s Gotham, lol that show is so travesti and a disgrace to batman’s mythos, it’s the equivalent of sonic x/boom to batman, both are campy and lame and the producers think it is an accurate version.
I care about the mythology that surrounds the characters that’s why i like superman, aquaman, the flash (mark waid’s era), John Byrne’s next men, the new gods, i like comics more than videogames to be honest.
I quite enjoyed Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. It was much better than him as Daredevil. And this might be an opinion that will be massively hated by a shitload of people but I also actually enjoyed Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. *activates flame shields* His talk with Superman on top of the Lexcorp building really sold me on him as Lex Luthor.
Of course, I watched the uncut BvS version, so Affleck and Eisenberg might have been much worse in the theatrical version.
Eisenberg’s Luthor is inspired by the miniseries man of steel (best origin of superman) by Byrne, there he was kind of a clown in his civilian persona and a calculator and cold person was his true self, the ultimate cut was better than the theatrical cut but still the battle was biased, after the first trap supes should had scan the area but no he fought like a novice.
Yeah, I did a little research and found out Jesse’s Lex was based on a Lex that hasn’t been seen by the general fanbase of Superman in a very long time which is why they were put off by it and thought it was a horrible portrayal of Lex because they had no clue that’s how he actually was originally. If WB/DC can weather the storm, I hope to see Jesse return as Lex and give a portrayal that people are more use to of Lex to prove to people he wasn’t such a bad choice for Lex. I enjoy seeing actors that have been typecasted as comedy actors get a chance to play more serious roles. Loved the movie Number 23 with Jim Carrey. Robin Williams did a good job in quite a few movies as a more serious character, too. I also enjoyed Danny McBride in Alien: Covenant as he acted as a semi-comic relief at the beginning of the movie but quickly turned into a highlight of that movie. (Can’t wait to see what McBride can do with that Halloween sequel he’s co-writing. It’s backed by John Carpenter so I’ll trust his judgement… for now.)
Watch the after credits scene of JL, that escene was better than the whole movie and although it is short i think eisenberg acted like Luthor and that other character cameo was badass!!!! That scene is worth watching…online, lol

I can’t wait for Keaton to return as Vulture at some point. (I wish they didn’t have so many people find out Peter was Spider-Man.) My dream movie would be for them to bring Keaton back to play an older Bruce Wayne/Batman some day. Bring Tim Burton on board as the director and ignore the events of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. The beginning of the movie can give a summary of what he’s been up to over the last several decades (it could be a movie crawl, a shot of news clippings, or whatever as long as it’s quick, short, and to the point.) If it’s at all possible, sign Billy Dee Williams on to portray Harvey Dent/Two-Face and finally let Burton give us that version of Two-Face. He’d have to be a side villain, though. (I don’t care if it pisses people off because he’s black and Harvey Dent is white. Fuck them! I want my Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face, damn it!) Ra’s al Ghul can be the main villain as I think it’s a character that is definitely suited to Burton. (Leave Joker alone, though. Nicholson will be too old for it (if he’s even still alive by then) and I don’t want to see anyone else fill those shoes for Michael Keaton and Tim Burton’s return.) Even if it’s a standalone movie that concludes the movies Burton started, I still want to see it. Of course, I want it to be a conclusion so I want Bruce to die a hero’s death. Maybe a pass the torch moment for some orphan he’s caring for or maybe even to his own son if they want to give him a kid to have as he’s dying. (No sequel needed regardless of how it ends.) I’ll stop now before I rant on any longer. lol
It’ll be interesting to see the aftermath of Aunt May catching Peter checking out the Spider-Man suit from Stark. Since she isn’t fragile like the usual comic book Aunt May, I can see them using the fact she knows Peter is Spider-Man as another means for Peter to be always worried about his Aunt May. Basically he’ll be worried about her by way of his own safety as he doesn’t want her to experience another tragic loss after losing Uncle Ben and is worried another loss that big would kill her. (Maybe introduce she does have a bit of a bad heart and the shock of losing Peter could potentially kill her.) But whatever they do, I hope Sony doesn’t ruin it. (They so better not try to turn Michelle into the new Mary Jane, though. Now that is something being changed from comics that WILL piss me off.)
At least thethey should continue the Burtonverse as an animated project, Keaton was perfect as batman, his facial expressions made me think that his Bruce Wayne was really crazy and that’s the point Bruce and batsy are different personas and Keaton nailed that part. I haven’t watched homecoming, mainly because the unnecessary iron man inclusion, i am tired of RDJ acting as himself everywhere, he killed sherlock Holmes for me and people think is a masterpiece >:(
i am going to watch black panther, my coworkers are saying that is worth watch, but what i really want is a proper movie based on the fantastic four, that always has been my favorite marvel book, it hurts so much how fox disrespected the franchise. But would be cool if DC produces an earth two movie with the justice society featuring legacy actors, Dean Cain or Brandon routh as earth two superman, Lynda Carter as wonder woman, John Wesley shipp as Jay Garrick among others yeah they are old but the movie could be based on the last days of the society or at least an animated project starring them. I’d die happily if that happens :D
It would be nice to see Red Skull return. (I hope you’ve seen Thor Ragnarok. If not, spoilers…) With how well they kept it a secret that Thor was going to lose an eye in Ragnarok, I could so see Red Skull get revealed as one of Thanos’ lackeys in Infinity War. It’d be a shame for him not to return since he was in the movie with the very first Infinity Gem. (I hope they give Thanos a line where he corrects everyone that they are actually called Infinity Gems, not stones.)
He might come back somehow. He was sucked into a portal somewhere and if Loki came back the the same way, so can the Red Skull.
Hugo weaving is such a terrifying actor and so is Lawrence fishburne, i liked his perry white and sadly he didn’t have much screentime.
But i agree that the best modern comic book movie villain is Zod, he wasn’t boring nor lame and felt like a real threat, is the only good villain (so far) in the DCEU and better that the ones in marvel, number two would be Loki, then red skull and no more.

You will remember Faora from Superman 2. Of course, she was named Ursa in that movie. In Man of Steel, she was the main female that served Zod. Come to think of it. I think she was the only female Kryptonian you saw with Zod. lol (The name Ursa and Faora seem to be pretty interchangeable depending on the version of Superman you read/watch.)

BTW, Thanos was inspired by Darkseid, ironically Darkseid was created by Jack Kirby. If Darkseid appears he has to be voiced by Michael Ironside, his voice was so iconic in the DC animated universe they should hire Bruce timm and Paul dini to oversee the movies.

Chris reeve will always be superman, the story of superman 4 was Ok, it was a well intended story about nuclear weapons and it got messed by that production company, the effects were horrible but the cast save that movie in my eyes, Chris always be superman (no matter what) and Gene freaking Hackman (one of my favorite actors) and Margot kidder… Gosh i missed her in superman 3, when i go to comic cons, unusually cosplay as her (the dress she wears during the zod fight).
I love all of the Christopher Reeve Superman films. And Richard fucking Pryor in Superman 3 was a highlight in that movie for me.
Yes, he was hilarious but Chris reeve as Clark vs. Evil supes was the real highlight
Oh yeah. Totally forgot about that fight. It was definitely the first movie I ever watched where you saw two of the same exact actor on the screen at the same time fighting each other. I don’t think many movies did that back then. (Could be wrong.)

I completely agree with you, that was unfair what they did to jimmy. Marc McClure (jimmy in the reeve’s movie) had a cameo and i am freaking sure they deleted him. As corny as some of the CW shows are at least they pay homage to the legacy actors John Wesley Shipp as henry Allen and jay Garrick always make my day, it was lame that Lynda carter is an alien in Supergirl, i stopped watching since season two i couldn’t stand too much drama, nowadays i barely watch flash, i am only into legends of tomorrow and black lightning which is the better show. Yeah i know that legends is too campy but the producers sold the show like that, also it reminds me of Keith giffen and JM dematteis justice league international with the comedy and character interactions and yup olicity and iris suck!!! Lol
I intend to distance myself from satellite when I get an internet provider that’s not as corrupt as AT&T. I’m gonna either use PlayStation Vue or Youtube TV for my TV viewing. Just gotta check them out and see which one has all of the channels I like. Definitely can’t keep AT&T for internet since the internet will be all kinds of mess after awhile if I don’t have it bundled with satellite or something. (Don’t trust an internet provider that also owns satellite or cable as they’ll screw you over at some point if you don’t have them both bundled.) I’ve enjoyed my time with PlayStation Vue over the last several months before I canceled it before they charged me for February, but if they don’t have every channel I want and Youtube TV does, I’m gonna have to go with Youtube TV in March.
Crap! Forgot to add my entire point to that comment after I talked about the live TV stuff. If one of these two don’t have the CW, I’m gonna abandon every CW show that isn’t Supernatural and iZombie and wait for them on Netflix even though I despise the idea of waiting 7-12 (or more) months to catch up with those two shows.
