Steven Spielberg made a rather interesting comment during a recent interview. Speaking with Japanese news agency Kyodo, for some reason, the renowned film director said he played a Mario VR game on a PlayStation platform. Some are speculating that Spielberg meant he played a Mario-like game on PlayStation VR, but official clarification from the man himself has yet to come out. Regardless, his comment on the so-called Mario PlayStation VR game is as follows:
“I played Mario and so on on the PlayStation. The first time I tried it I didn’t want to take the goggles off.”
Haha.. a lot of non-gamers I’ve known refer to platformers as Mario games. Anything where you jump around is suddenly Mario. I’m assuming he didn’t mean what he said and this shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
I can’t wait to play Mario X Legacy Collection when it comes out this July. I’m so jealous of Spielberg for getting to play it early AND in VR
People seriously do that?
It’s no different from people calling PlayStations & Xboxes Nintendos.
I can kinda see that since some older folks only paid attention in the 90’s when Nintendo dominated the market, but Mario games kinda need…. y’know… Mario.
My teacher in English sad “Mario the King of Playstations”. I cringed so hard
Wondering if he really is such a complete non-gamer. After all he has been invoved with videogame production for instance for Boom Blox or a game called LMNO, which never got released, but might still have demanded some research on gaming in general.
And after Miyamoto was called the Steven Spielberg of videogames for Mario 64 from NYT, as SPielberg i would get kinda curious what that means if someone gets your name as a title of nobility.
||Being a developer, or involved in any type of video game production doesn’t make anyone a gamer unless actually playing constantly for hours…||
||He belongs with the civilian cattle masses…||
@Nintendo First Order Commander Quadraxis
being involved into videogames and if it’s just as a producer, demands you to understand the stuff you’Re working on and especially the audience you’re doing it for. When they for instance decided to do Boom Blox the way it is, they had to put lots of work into research who’s gonna play their game. Should it be more mature, should it be more casual and so on. Boom Blox looks really like the result of successful work on that department, so noone can tell me he’s just an old guy who doesn’t know where Mario is coming from.
One guy below commented that there’s a Mario Demo for Oculus and it’s more likely he mixed up Oculus and PSVR which would make way more sense.
||True but you are still not a gamer, a gamer is someone who plays the games constantly and efficiently for hours almost every day, and does it for pleasure and entertainment, not for work…||
What if it was just a fan made hack/mod that made mario into a vr demo/game??
Can’t for the salt in the comments lmao
I remember playing god of war on my my neo geo
I played strip poker on my NES
I played steel battalion on my gameboy color
…
I have SEVERAL questions.
Isn’t there an unofficial Mario VR game out there? Maybe played it and just thought it was a PlayStation when it was in fact Oculus or something.
Yes and it’s for Oculus

I guess he is still upset Nintendo did not let him use their IP’s on his trash movie
Why would he be upset? It’s Nintendo’s loss for not letting any of their characters appear in Ready Player One. It would have been fun to see the likes of Mario & Link throw down with the likes of Kratos or Nathan Drake or maybe even fight alongside them.
I feel like Nintendo thinks they’ll have another CD-i instance where they let someone else use their IPs and they wind up completely trashing them which is why they’re ridiculously stingy. Maybe this will change if the Mario movie ends up being a success (which is dubious because it’s being done by the studio behind the Minions movie. I hate those annoying talking Twinkies).
Well it is Mario. Nintendo isn’t gonna do something along the lines of the Super Mario Bros movie so expect an action comedy that will most likely lean more towards comedy than action.
Bare in mind, the last movie to use their IP flopped in more ways than one. And yes, I’m referring to the Sony Produced Adam Sandler movie, Pixels.
Watched it… I don’t want to see any more videogame movies made by Sony
And Wrecking Ralph which also featured Nintendo characters was a huge success. Flops in the film industry happen. Get over it & try again.

Mario VR on PlayStation? I’d buy PlayStation VR first chance I get if I could legitimately play Mario on it. Sadly, he’s most likely mistaken. Or maybe the translator is high or something? lol
Really? Mario in VR sounds like a horrible idea with how limited it is currently. It’s not really the place to play games that need precision platforming
So? I’d still play it. If I can help a developer work out any kinks for their game, that’s worth it to me.
Sounds like the kind of comment that a non-gamer would make. Someone who knows nothing about video game characters, or what respective console they belong on. Then again, it could have been a simple mistake. Or….a mistake caused from not being a gamer.
||It is not a mistake, he was the director fior the pathetic Xbot Halo television series, obviously an Xbot…||
||*for…||
Mario dlc in God of War confirmed!!!!!!
Shigeru Miyamoto says he played Halo on the PlayStation 360
I think I remember that once. lol
Idiat!
ready player one is not worth watching if it doesnt include Nintendo. they should have offered Nintendo more money. there are many people who just catagorically wont watch that movie because of this obvuous oversight.
HE ALSO PLAYED INSIDE Heather O’RourkeS ANUS AND COMPACTED HER POOP AND KILLED HER
Actually, you can connect the Switch to the Playstation VR headset and play
I’m playing Super Mario Odyssey on Linux
I am playing Kirby Star Allies on Playstation 4.
I played with myself.
Oww, wrong thread…
