UK news site The Guardian has published an interview with Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo’s General Manager of development. The interview mainly discusses Nintendo’s recently launched Labo concept which comes out this Friday in the United Kingdom. During the interview Takahashi told the publication that Nintendo is not consciously trying to innovate, but they are intent on making people happy with their products.
“People always ask us whether we take risks on purpose. But to us, we don’t really take risks – we just keep trying new things,” said Takahashi last week. Although he has enormous responsibility at Nintendo, he is not a stereotypically stern Japanese executive. His face is warm and affable, his hair slightly scruffy; he is quick to chuckle over both our questions and his own answers. “The thinking that guides us is: what can we do to pleasantly surprise players? It’s not that we’re consciously trying to innovate; we’re trying to find ways to make people happy. The result is that we come up with things other people have not done.”
Metroid Prime 4 is coming.
Yeah I can agree with what they said.
Indeed. They are trying to make us Metroid players and Prime players happy 😊
}{ And yet, the Wii U was a thing… }{
It not being a commercial success doesn’t mean it didn’t make people happy…
Though Nintendo have had their ups and downs, I think they’ve succeeded almost every time at creating their games to make people happy.
I want to see what Nintendo will show to us at E3. By the way make a Star Fox game for the Switch please
People would be happier if you lowered the Labo’s price by $10 ;)
Haha, yeah. At the end of the day, it’s not about making people happy, but making money xP
Well they do need to make money to stay in business. :P
Can’t argue with that. Only thing is he tried to present it kind of they did it for making people happy, and not for the money.
Ofc if they make products that make people happy, they will probably earn money, so from one standpoint, yeah it is about making people happy, but it’s never the main purpose.
Hopefully they will make a new 3D Donkey Kong or a remake of DK 64. Of course I also want to continue having the DK Country games too.
In one region in Finland there is this saying: “Hyvää yritetähän mutta priimaa pakkaa tulemahan”, literally “we’re trying to do a good job but we just happen to do an excellent job”. I feel like this characterizes Nintendo pretty well.
““People always ask us whether we take risks on purpose. But to us, we don’t really take risks – we just keep trying new things,” said Takahashi last week.” Uhm… Actually, trying new things is taking risks. After all, there is no guarantee the new thing is gonna be successful so it’s a risk.
Was my though as well. No one (normal) has the mindset of “we MUST take risks”. Everyone is viewing risks as “something new/unheard of/that haven’t been done before”.
Not necessarily. If you can afford to try something new, it’s not much of a risk.
As a company with a profit motive, they are actually trying to innovate. Duh.
Money makes people happy… just sayin.
People would be happier if you dont sue or copyright fan game and monetized every video i mean sure they have the right to do that but they should learn from their mistake by looking popular fan game
And Labo it’s not my way…
BULL-SHIT
