Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Coming To Nintendo Switch August 28th

Nintendo of America has revealed on Twitter that Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate from Capcom will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on August 28th here in the west. This will undoubtedly be more than welcome news for Monster Hunter fans who own a Nintendo Switch and missed out on Monster Hunter World on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

For the first time, gamers have the flexibility to play both local wireless and online multiplayer with up to three other hunters – whether playing at home on the big screen or on the go in handheld or tabletop mode. E3 attendees can check out a demo of the game at the Capcom booth (#2223) this June. A brand new trailer for the title is available now on the press site here.

Hunters can face off against the series’ largest roster of unique monsters in this nostalgic look back at the series’ beginnings and evolutions. Take on the role of a brave hunter on an adrenaline-fueled adventure challenging larger-than-life beasts. Completing quests will yield valuable resources for crafting countless distinct weapons and equipment fashioned after players’ defeated foes. Along their journey, hunters must defend each of the game’s four villages from major threats known as the Fated Four, plus an even more dangerous new Elder Dragon.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate features a blend of classic gameplay and unique new twists, brand new explorable areas and monsters, plus returning fan-favorites like the lightning fast Zinogre and the stealthy long-tailed Nargacuga. This release introduces a new quest level called “G” rank that features even more formidable versions of familiar foes, truly testing experienced hunters’ battle tactics now with different moves and abilities never before seen in the wild!

For newcomers to the series, the gameplay features tons of powerful super moves called Hunter Arts that can be executed with a quick tap on the touch screen. Players can experiment and choose from six different Hunting Styles including two new ones called Brave Style, which rewards players with new moves for landing successive attacks; and Alchemy Style, a support style that grants the ability to create useful items on the fly during combat. Hunters are encouraged to explore and customize the experience between quests to discover their preferred, highly personalized playstyle.

Players of the original Monster Hunter Generations can transfer save data from the previous title to continue their journey in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

  1. FUUUUUUCK YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
It’s about goddamn time, I’m gonna play the shit out this!
Aside from Zelda and Arms this is one of the only reasons I bought a damn Switch! Now I can continue paying as a prowler rather than a boring ass hunter!

    1. It’s hard to define better or worse. This is more of a core MH game without a lot of the quality of life things that MHW brings- it tends to be a lot more heavy on inventory management and quite a bit more grindy to get the gear you want. Also the areas have loading screens between them so it’s not the same experience; battles are more sectioned off per area than fluid through the whole world like MHW. Also you don’t have the constant turf wars happening. MH Gen U is definitely more appealing to hardcore MH players. If you played MHW and found it too complex or unwieldy, then you will definitely NOT like MH Gen U. I personally love MH Gen U because it has hunter arts, which lets me constantly be jumping off monsters to mount them, plus there is an “ultimate” move of sorts which is fun to have on command.

    2. Not a chance in hell. It’s a port of a 3DS game upscaled compared to a title built from the ground up for the PS4 And Xbox One.
It’s likely still very fun but it definitely isn’t an optimized game meant for the switch. Maybe with time Capcom will actually develop a game with the Switch in mind from the outset but for now this is the best we will get.
Once again probably still pretty fun but you will notice it’s graphical deficiencies immediately and the gameplay isn’t as unique as world which was sort of like BOTW for MH.

      1. I can’t really agree with the comparison to Breath of the Wild. The gameplay hasn’t really changed much from Generations to World, World is just more accessible and doesn’t segment the maps.
And honestly, while MH World certainly looks better than all the older Monster Hunter games, it also has dramatically less content than them and is arguably too easy for series veterans.
If you’re new to the series, by all means, pick World first. But if you’re looking for a game with a massive selection of monsters to hunt, then Generations Ultimate is where you want to go.

    3. It’s worth noting that this has better framerates/resolution/antialiasing than World on a PS4 or Xbox One(not the Pro/X version).

    4. Really hard to say.
World has revolutionized Monster Hunter in many ways, maybe a bit comparable to what BotW did with Zelda (although not to such an extreme degree).
Monster Hunter Generations is still a classic Monster Hunter not too much different from the very first game, I think even the engine is still the same, making the game look outdated in multiple ways.

All in all, it strongly depends on whether you like the changes World did or not.

Personally, I am not a huge fan of Monster Hunter Generations in particular, compared to even the older games, but opinions differ a lot on that as well.
(Not saying Generations is bad, just not as good as some others MH games, for me)

    5. world is literally the best thing to happen to the series in years. Nintendo purists will try to tell you otherwise. Generations was good but it’s nothing compared to world.

    1. Yes, and it took them longer than I expected to bring it to the west. The thing is I doubt we will see the 3ds version of XX/double cross localized going by the trailer just released on Monster Hunter youtube channel so if anyone wanted to play this in english they will have to get the Switch version.
You can transfer your saved data from the 3ds version of generations over to MHGU so at least if you have the 3ds version of Generations you don’t have to start over again unlike importing Double Cross and being forced to start over from scratch like most people have done when we all thought this would never get localized.

  3. Has E3 come early!? I’m not a fan of Monster Hunter but I’m glad for those that are who felt let down when Switch didn’t get the XX port or World’s. The graphics actually look really nice, much better than the XX port and cool that there’s a big game coming in August.

  4. They waited too long. MHW is way better than the older games especially in the controls department. I really hope they added a few quality of life changes. the only reason I’d get this is for the Nintendo Crossover gear and old Monsters that aren’t in World yet. I also wanna state I find it funny they changed the name from “double Cross” I’m a little salty but yea I think I’m on board for this.

    1. But this is literally a totally different experience due to the content alone, especially for those who only play as prowlers rather than hunters, plus this has waaaayyyy more monsters, more better looking armor sets (visually and skill wise) and some of if not the best flagship monsters to ever grace the MH IP (the Fated Four and their deviants).
MHW just has prettier graphics and different mechanics, but MHXX/GU has way more content and Heavy and Light Bowguns in MHGU/XX are a thousand times better. MHW rapid fire was limited to normal 1, normal 2, elemental and status shots, MHXX/GU every gun (heavy or Light) is uniquely different plus the styles literally change how you main a gun.
Both games are good but MHW is lacking in content whereas MHGU players always have access to every quest ever released rather than struggling to get what they want during a limited timed event like that Kulve Taroth siege event, which btw have yet to net me an 8 tier insect glaive even though I Broke the damn horns completely over 38 times already at an level 16-17 reward lvl every time.

    2. I also forgot they took away the major use of normal shot lvl 3 in mhw that was in past mh games and that is the ricochet that seemed to occur when hitting larger monsters and watching it bounce around the monster for multiple attacks.
I honestly believe they should have kept the normal shot ricochet ability in mhw.

      1. You sir, are a man that knows his MH!

I have been playing MH since the Monoblos and own them all, and I can say without hesitation that MHW lacks deeply in the content department, especially for gunning as you mentioned.

The feeling of mining for your rusted piece of gear, the variety of mobs, the challenging aspect of G rank….. all lost in MHW

MHW is visually appealing, and although the zone loading has been removed, in my honest opinion, it had removed a core element to MH…. loading to heal or restamina up when facing and enraged Rajang in G rank!!

MHW is good for new players introducing them to a fantastic series but for older veteran players like myself, it had lost its core elements and challenge.

I for one cannot wait for this MH as my MHW is collecting dust.

        T

  5. As everyone would tell you in previous articles this is exactly the amount of time it took to bring the previous games over.
This here was very much expected, and absolutely par for the course

  6. Well good for all the fans. I feel MH World is the new way Capcom is going though, and it sold really well on PS4. I hope this one sells well just to prove to Capcom that the switch has a base for future games in mh so that it can be included with its own line of monster Hunter because I don’t think it has the power to handle MH world sadly.

    1. Who the hell cares?! Power has nothing to do with it… but when it comes to options and features, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate has it all.

  7. Is CAPCOM the fan of Randy Orton? That news just came out of nowhere like an RKO! It took the company a year to translate it into English. FINALLY… Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is coming exclusively to the Switch this August!

  8. That “For the first time” is somewhat edgy xP You could tranfer save files between Wii U and 3DS on MH3U,so you could play on the go and on the big screen. You probably could do a tabletop gaming with the U gamepad and the Pro controller. But not as handy ofc.

  10. YYYEEEEESSSSSSSS!!! !!!

I’ll admit, this game will not convert anyone who refused to give the series a chance until World. Truth be told, it is not a graphically impressive game. It’s just “Good Enough”. It is also probably the least newbie-friendly game in the franchise. Systems upon systems upon systems. It is, and alway was, made for players who were already fans and veterans of the past games.

However, for those whom have loved All of Monhun prior to MH Wold, “Double Cross” (now coming as “Generations Ultimate”) is the last Hurrah of the First Generation, and there is just So Much hunting and crafting goodness to be found.

Playable Lynians/Felynes/Palicos. Trans-Mogable armor (apply stats of any armor set to any other aesthetic you prefer). So many hunting styles. So Many Hunter Arts* (*Special Moves).

Don’t shrug it off as an inferior game. There is a lot here. And, Unlike in World, you can Actually roll with a Crew and start missions TOGETHER, and stay with them when they end to go again.

… not sure why they changed that in World.

  11. People seem excited for this game,I keep hearing praise about the Monster Hunter series, but I also hear that it’s not beginer frienldy,so it’s not very encouraging for me to get into the series, from what I hear MHWorld would have been the better game for me.

I MIGHT get it still,I just hope I’ll be able to get into it

    1. If u do get it then look me up. I dont mind helping teach u about certain things in the game. Been playing this series since 2009 with MH Tri (3; 2008).

  12. will MHxx have the option to select in game language?!?since MHGU is basicly same game but translated?!?
