Kamiya Prays That The Wonderful 101 Comes To Nintendo Switch

Outspoken but extremely talented video game developer Hideki Kamiya, the director of Platinum Games, has told a fan on Twitter that he prays that The Wonderful 101 will eventually make its way to the Nintendo Switch. Fans really want the game to come to the platform as it’s a great game and people may have missed it due to the game being on the Wii U. As always, we shall just have to wait and see.

      1. This might seem like something of an article but what the hell:

I think it actually makes more sense to re-release the original rather than immediately go in guns blazing with 2 games. It would take a considerable amount of both time and resources to make a sequel. Firstly the Wii U game had pretty poor sales figures so releasing a Switch “port” would provide a great opportunity to both reinvigorate the “franchise” and introduce it to new players.

Secondly, one of the main reasons there have been so many Wii U ports to both 3DS and Switch (Hyrule Warriors, Pokken Tournament, DKCTF, Mario Maker etc), was to make a quick buck. Not many people had those games originally due to poor Wii U sales. It therefore makes sense to recycle old material for the benefit of the company thanks to the amazing progress of Switch sales so far.

Therefore it would be better in the long run for Platinum and consequently the fans to experiment with the game. If a Switch port equates to huge sales then a sequel would make a lot more sense because the potential for success would be considerably greater. If the port doesn’t sell so well then it wouldn’t make much sense for a sequel. It is afterall a game with a “cult” following (myself included).

That’s just my humble opinion anyway… and breathe…

        1. It’s kind of obvious what you’re saying, but not wrong. In my humble opinion the game could just be on Wii U and stay there. Rather have something else entirely xP

    1. Have to agree with you. It was an ok game but weird controls didn’t help it. It’s probably my least wanted Wii u port

    2. I believe it was one of WiiU’s greatest games along with PG’s finest hours.
It has obvious issues and I wish they could somehow get rid of them (yet hardly doubt it) but it kinda makes me sad that so many ppl got turned off by them as W101 is like a clown car a seemingly small package that just won’t ever stop to impress with content and ideas. I believe it’s one of WiiU’s most overlooked games and it would just make a lot of sense to present it to a broader audience now in the advent of a possible sequel. But they should totally port the first one, I believe I would even buy it again if they can somehow find a solution for making that gesture-concept more accessible and fast because as soon as one get along with that, it just open the door to one hell of a ride. I just think of smashing my way through a skyscarper someone threw at me and that was just mid game.
I would still prefer an HD remake of Viewitiful Joe over this, but … I guess in the end I’d like to see both plus the W101-sequel (can’t have enough)-

    1. Keep going with the ports! There are some great games that came out on the Wii U that deserve to be on a more successful system.

      1. Like mega said a different companies handle the ports, and they sell better than there original counterparts, at least developed some knowledge on how ports work before shouting out no ports

    2. It will get better. As long as it makes sense, it will go on, but sooner or later, games whose development began with thelaunch of the Switch will be finished. And when they also ported Super Mario 3D World and possibly even Mario Maker or Pikmin 3, there won’t be that much left. But offering these games to a way bigger and growing audience just makes sense, no matter how much some dislike that. When W101 launched, the WiiU had a tiny install base. Would they bring a port now and fix some of it’s problems, they would at least sell as many copies as on the WiiU again which would already be enough to cover the effort so who would say no to that?

    1. Ports are a good way to get people associated with a series. They don’t take away from new games being developed. It’s also an easy way to flesh out a system’s library.

I really don’t understand the port hate nowadays. I had a Wii U. I’m personally glad that some of the great games from that system are finally being appreciated by more people. That’s the whole point. And to help fund future games. Ports are harmless. Don’t want it, don’t buy it.

    1. Nah. This guy has a ton of games he wants to do and he just… I know at least two were a Wonder Blue spinoff game in the style of Metal Gear Rising and I remember some sort of Jeanne game where she’s a schoolteacher.
Basically… he’s always commenting on something he wants made.

    2. A movie director also is always dependant of the studio’s decisions or the producers and the whole business around them, so just being a director doesn’t qualify you to make every wish come true.
But I’d say making a port of a game that launched to a console with a small install base back then to a console that has now a way bigger base absolutely makes sense. And if the release a double-pack with W102 like they did with Bayonetta 1&2 that would be even more awesome and I believe also not so unrealistic to sell to the people paying the bills there.

  2. Sequel please not a port!… Anymore ports and ninty should refund me for my WiiU as what was the point in it??? Lol

    1. I don’t get why ppl get so mad about ports being made now 6 years after they launched on the WiiU. Would you have preferred to have nothing on the WiiU and wait? I understand that a new game feels more fresh, but I don’t see any reason not to do these ports. If I already own a game, then I either biuy it again as in some cases the portability is just king, or I just don’t care. There’s at least for me enough to play and in the end, the main USP of the Switch just isn’t being a new system, but a portable system and getting console games to play wherever you are is just stronger than getting new games. If the games are also new + portable, then SURE that’s awesome but it’s just logical that studios are also pushing ports as it enfolds a hidden value that hasn’t been possible before. I just went through europe and took my library with me. And I played that 7 year old game Skyrim. Did I care how old it was, or did I just love the idea to have this gaming world available in my pocket?

  3. In a perfect world we would have ports and new games on switch.
Oh wait… thats what we have now

  6. While new games are nice and should be a priority, I also want ports of Wii U exclusives too as I missed a few since I gave up on Wii U in mid-2015. (Thanks alot, E3 2015!) Good thing is some of us ARE getting both. Some aren’t since some people just don’t care about the certain games we have gotten ports of so far.

  7. I really cannot understand how people can complain about all the ports coming to Nintendo Switch. The way I see it; If you paid for the Nintendo Wii U Versions and all the ports to the Nintendo Switch Versions, why on Earth would you buy it again for Nintendo Switch? I bought Shovel Knight for the Nintendo Wii U and I don’t ever plan to buy it for Nintendo Switch because what’s the point?
What would you rather have? A Great game left in the dust that is the Nintendo Wii U or see brand new light on a much more successful system? I know what I would prefer.
As for Enhanced Ports, well to me that only makes the Nintendo Switch Ports even more justified because with that, they are giving you new reasons to buy their game. Granted they do charge full-price for enhanced ports which is a little underhanded but if it means the amazing game gets new life breathed into it, it’s a price I’m willing to pay.
