Capcom Says They Want To Compete Against Western AAA Publishers Globally

Japanese developer Capcom has revealed to their investors that they are determined to compete against the big triple-A developers like EA and Activision here in the west. They say that their continued success in the eSports area is something that they need to build upon on order for their plan to work. Here’s what the company had to say:

“While the Japanese home video game market is sizable, it is less than 10% the size of the global market. We believe that Capcom must win out against publishers on the global stage, such as those in the U.S. and Europe, in order to grow in the medium- to long-term. Esports, which has been garnering attention throughout the globe, provides the perfect opportunity for us to compete on the world stage. The Capcom brand already enjoys high levels of recognition globally; as such, we are streamlining our corporate structure in order to leverage this brand recognition and win out at the global level.”

  1. What a joke. They can’t even put the Mega Man X Collection on a 4GB Switch cartridge. It took well over a year to announce a localisation of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on Switch.

  2. Okay if that’s true then Capcom need to revive one specific IP that appeals to both Japanese and western audience and that is Lost Planet.
1 Just develop a new Lost Planet game using the same engine used for MH World
2 Give people the option to completely create and customize their own character.
3 Capcom must do the exact same thing they’ve done to said new Lost Planet game that they have done with MHW and allow everyone access to all of the content regardless of having online subscription service or not, they can charge for emotes though nobody cares about those.
4 do not cut content from the damn game and charge for it later, people hate that and Capcom know it!
allow all future content to be free just like MH.
5 DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE of EVERYTHING EA AND ACTIVISION DO, I CAN NOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH!
6 put a battle royal mode in there for the retards who keep crying for BR to be in everything, but don’t just slap it on at the last minute, add on to it over time to flesh it out.
7 The most important thing, FOCUS ON MAKING THE DAMN CAMPAIGN GREAT AND DON’T MAKE THE DAMN GAME ALWAYS ONLINE!
If Capcom can follow these simple damn instructions while not being a bunch of cheap greedy bastards then they can easily and beat western publishers, especially now since western publishers pretty much destroyed western gaming by turning everything into a damn monetization scheme for profit and greed, plus the Lost Planet Universe is a thousand times more interesting than anything western publishers could come up with, hell majority of Japanese developed games have better universes than western games, except when compared to the Legacy of Kain series, I love those games and it’s universe too much thanks to Amy Hennig’s creativity.

  3. Have they been succesful in esports? MvC:I died on arrival. SFV, although played a lot, is almost played out of spite. It gets ripped on by every fighting game community I know, including the SFV community.

While I’m on the topic, this seems kind of backwards. For the most part, successful games make for popular esports, not the other way around. The most popular esports games are games that were already popular with the casual crowd who doesn’t care about esports.
