We found out today what Retro Studios could be working on and it sounds as though it’s a racing game based on the Star Fox franchise titled Star Fox: Grand Prix. Several big publications Game Informer and Kotaku have also chimed in and said that they have heard that Retro Studios was working on another project. However that project has most likely been canned due to development difficulties.

Can’t help but feel this is somehow Nintendo’s fault in some way. I remember reading some dirt about tensions between Rare staff and Miyamoto some years back. How many other Western studios collaborate directly with Nintendo?
It makes me sad either way, and I hope Star Fox isn’t the only game under their belt if the rumour is true.

Honestly I hope that neither is true. Knowing that Retro was working on an, apparently, super project, to they launch a Star Fox racing game is beyond underwhelming.
Any idea where you read that? From everything I know about the relationship between Retro and Miyamoto, it’s largely positive. Miyamoto gave them a lot of helpful feedback during Metroid Prime and DKC development. I remember they even referred to him as Master Yoda among the retro staff. I don’t recall ever seeing anything all that negative. I just know that once it got to Prime 3, a lot of retro staff wanted to move onto a different series as they were reportedly tired of doing metroid. But idk how reliable that report regarding Metroid was, I read it so long ago.

I’m just saying, the studio that’s stuck doing the Mario Vs. DK games disappointed Nintendo at some point and now they don’t do anything else. And Retro being Western, I dunno how Ninty feels about them really. Retro should be showered with money to create new stuff. At the same time, their early prototypes before Prime were supposed to be pretty crappy, so maybe they just need too much supervision.

Tanabe. The bane of Metroid Prime & Paper Mario; mostly Paper Mario since Federation Force is his only crime against Metroid Prime… so far. Wouldn’t be surprised if Retro was strongly against the idea of chibi Metroid & Tanabe, wanting to do it anyway, told them to sod off as he’d find a dev that would. The whole “We wanted to move on to something else.” from Retro was a red herring as they weren’t allowed to tell us the truth that Tanabe was a douche. But this is just a theory. A GAME theory! lol
The leak on IGN is going to be true. First Star Fox then a secret project now the things are going to be interesting in this month

I think it’s only a matter of time before someone turns down one of Miyamoto’s “suggestions” & then that someone is the one getting chewed out for daring to speak against what they felt was a terrible idea because it came from Miyamoto. Not necessarily saying Miyamoto himself would take offense to it (I haven’t seen any reason to believe he’d be the type to flip out over having one of his ideas turned down but, then again, you never really know someone that has celebrity status (ESPECIALLY in this day and age what with people like Bill Cosby and such being accused of sexual related crimes)) but a 3rd, 4th, etc person in the room might. Hopefully that’s not the case here if this rumor is true.

They probably have been making an original title and… it’s gone through development hell and now Nintendo is probably saying “Just make Donkey Kong Switch to earn some money”
Watch it be a Star Fox racer, and it looks amazing. I’m willing to hold my tongue on hate until I see it. I’m also not believing it until I see it. So many rumors have been wrong before.
You know what? It’s such a weird concept but could actually be pulled off beautifully if it’s NOTHING LIKE FZERO by being in an aircraft…. kinda like airplane races in Diddy Kong Racing meets 2018 bells and whistles.
