More information has emerged online regarding the recently announced Pokemon games for the Nintendo Switch. Those games are Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! and are due to be released on the platform in October this year.
- The Combat Power system from Pokemon GO is being used in battles
- Battling and trading will be available online, but competitive ranked battles aren’t included
- No plans to utilize the Switch Online paid service
- Officially-released screens were at 1080p resolution
- Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee’s codename was “Project Beluga”
- The Poke Ball Plus’ codename was “Project Palma”
- Players won’t be able to evolve the Starter Pokemon

I don’t know how you think it won’t use online at all, when it literally says it has online battles and trading. What it means, is that this game won’t REQUIRE the paid online service. Once the service drops, Nintendo can apparently choose which games require it, and which ones don’t.

Did you not read the point just above where it says online trading and battling is included? I think theyean you’ll be able to use these features for free. I imagine the gen 8 game next year you’ll need to have a subscription but for this game, as it’s aimed at new players, they would not want to put people off with extra costs.

Just an FYI to anyone confused about this point:
When the Paid Nindendo Online service launches, games are ‘Not’ required to go through it to have online features.
If a publisher so desires, they CAN continue to offer online features, including vs/co-op, for FREE to users of their game.
That ‘IS’ still an option. Most big games WILL require it (Splatoon, MarioKart, Smash, etc) … but games are allowed to bypass it on game-by-game or feature-by-feature basis. How often games/publishers chose to absorb whatever costs are neccessary to make online features still available to non-subscribers (passing on whatever options/benefits that allows them) is yet to be seen. It sounds like Pokemon will be one of those games. (… unless plans change)

yes this is great news but I’d like source as well pls.
I’m still on the fence with this one, my love for Pokemon is compelling me to purchase the game but past experiences, such as Destiny 2 and No Mans Sky (shudders), have made me a much more pessimistic individual.
I think for the first time in my life, this will not be a day one purchase, i’ll be relying heavily on player reviews and youtube vids before I decide.

Destiny 2 had like… A quadzillion times better launch and content compared to the first one xP That really tore me apart, because I was like sceptical of everything, and Destiny for was my “This looks so good it can’t fail!” … and then it did fail x’D I’m a hollow shell of a man these days.
Just Sun and Moon was enough to turn me off of Pokemon for good, if I wanted to play a walking simulator or watch a perpetual movie I would buy that.
With the combat system being more akin to Go, I won’t be picking it up after all. That’s disappointing. I wanted my Pokémon fix this year, but hopefully we’ll get Fire Emblem and a Smash game with a single player experience in mind.
No, the combat system is the same as previous traditional games, you just can’t battle Wild Pokemon – you can only battle trainers, gym leaders, bosses etc.

It is the traditional battle system and is not just tapping like Pokémon Go. The capturing is based on Go and there’s no wild Pokémon battles. It’s kind of disheartening to see the amount of people either not reading the information provided or assuming everything is like Pokémon Go. This is basically a traditional Pokémon game with some elements of Pokémon Go.
Where has it been stated that we wont be battling wild pokemon? How does that even make sense? Just encounter and toss a ball?
The article was talking about the Combat Power system (CP), not the combat system in general. I also misread that at first. Don’t know what exactly that means, though. I assume CP will be somewhat replacing the stats, like Attack, Defense or Agility, to not overwhelm newcomers.
Eh? Combat Powers and not being able to evolve your starter? I was looking forward to those titles since the trailer, now I’m worried again =/

Is it just me, or is ‘Project Beluga’ a major red flag, considering the ‘minnows, dolphins and whales’ terminology used to describe players of F2P games?

According to the official pokemon website in Japan it says that it has elements from pokemon go and that it’s a whole new experience which is still an RPG. This is what it says ( translated to English):
“Pocket Monsters Let’s Go! Pikachu” “Pocket Monsters Let’s Go! Evey” is the latest work of the “Pocket Monster” series released as Nintendo Switch software. It is a work that reconstructed how to play and scenario based on “Pocket Monster Pikachu” released as Game Boy software in 1998. Yes you can catch wild Eevee’s and Pikachu’s or transfer them from Pokémon Go and these will evolve as normal. It’s just the starter ones that won’t as they are your special partner

Every info I heard about on this game is disappointing.
This is the same as pretty much every other main series Pokémon game apart from a few things so I don’t get what the problem is. You’re getting a new generation with all the usual mechanics intact next year so if you feel like this is so terrible just wait for that.
I agree so much, this is a normal Pokemon game just the Wild Encounters are watered down. Trainers/Gyms are classic battle styles, not just tapping or anything. People like to get very small details, assume they know everything about the entire game and make bold statements months before a game even releases. Also they also said that yes, a full new core RPG Generation coming next year. So I guess we can complain that instead of the 1 game we thought we were getting, we now get 2. How dare they?

In regards to Pikachu, not being able to evolve it isn’t a problem as he can be pretty durable for a mid-evolved Pokemon. Eevee, on the other hand, is a giant pushover if you don’t evolve it at a certain point in the game. So unless they increased this starter Eevee’s stats to make it a more useful member of your team, you really will only have 5 good Pokemon in your team later in the game. But since these games are more for casuals, I could be wrong & Eevee won’t need increased stats to be useful throughout the game.
Whats the point of having an eevee then?
