Ultimate, Nintendo shared details about the latest entry in a series with sales of more than 40 million units worldwide. A new game built for the Nintendo Switch system, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lets up to eight players square off in action-packed battles that are all about smashing beloved video game characters off the screen. “At E3, we’re showing how Nintendo Switch continues to redefine play, with the broadest range of games people can enjoy together anytime, anywhere,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “Fans who’ve debated which Super Smash Bros. fighter is the best now have the chance to settle their differences once and for all, pitting familiar faces against fresh challengers on stages both new and old. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, and the arrival of Epic’s Fortnite on Nintendo Switch demonstrate the strong momentum Nintendo Switch continues to have through 2018 and beyond.”

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will include every single fighter ever featured in the series’ nearly two-decade run, making it one of the biggest crossover events in gaming history. Fans can enjoy returning favorites like Ice Climbers and Pokémon Trainer, as well as newly announced fighters like Ridley from the Metroid series and Inkling from the Splatoon series. The game supports a variety of controller options, including Nintendo GameCube controllers (original or newly designed), Joy-Con controllers or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. With Nintendo Switch, players can throw down whenever and wherever they like in Handheld or Tabletop mode while enjoying online play.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate combines many stages and new items, with gameplay that makes it easy for players of all skill levels to jump in. All current Super Smash Bros. series amiibo figures are compatible with the game, and any fighter’s amiibo figure from other series will also be supported. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to launch on Dec. 7, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. It is being developed by Nintendo, Sora, Ltd. and BANDAI NAMCO Studios, and is directed by Masahiro Sakurai.

Nintendo also announced that Fortnite, the Battle Royale phenomenon from Epic Games, is available for Nintendo Switch – TODAY. Players can download it for free from the Nintendo eShop, then test their mettle in thrilling crucibles of combat. The action never stops with Fortniteon Nintendo Switch, where players can build and battle together anytime, anywhere. Team up online with friends in the same room or around the world. Weekly updates and new gameplay modes will keep the action fresh for seasoned Fortnite players and newcomers alike.

At its E3 booth this week in the Los Angeles Convention Center, Nintendo will give attendees their first chance to play Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, two Pokémon games launching for the Nintendo Switch system on Nov. 16 at a suggested retail price of $59.99 each. Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! are a new way to experience Pokémon that lets players adventure with their partner Pokémon in the vibrant Kanto region, discover fresh and exciting Pokémon encounters and Trainer battles, as well as share the adventure cooperatively with a friend anytime, anywhere on one Nintendo Switch system. A new accessory, called Poké Ball Plus, comes with Mythical Pokémon, Mew and is sold separately from the games. Poké Ball Plus includes a pressable analog stick and button, so players can control the new games entirely with the accessory, if they want. Nintendo is announcing two bundles, in which players can get Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! with one Poké Ball Plus at a suggested retail price of $99.99 each.

95 thoughts on “Nintendo Direct: E3 2018 – Here’s What Was Announced”

  1. No METROID!!!??? Huge shame, was hoping for Starfox, F-ZERO, MK9, bayo 3 etc and nothing.. to much on smash, it took up more than half the presentation :( happy but dissapoint

      1. I went in not hoping for much but I thought we’d get something of Metroid … Huge shame and most people would agree with me

      2. He went in with the same expectations that anyone would have with a new Nintendo console. It’s not his/her fault.

Nintendo themselves made the mistake of announce Prime 4 last year specifically so that people would anticipate it. The same is true of Bayonetta 3. It was announced before to get people hyped so why is it absurd that someone would expect information about it at E3?

      3. You’re absolutely dreaming if you think MP4 has any chance to launch the second half of 2019. With no gameplay or even a cinematic trailer shown I would estimate second half 2020 at the earliest. Next year will be all about the mainline entry for Pokemon.

    1. So if Nintendo announced your games and then they showed Smash you know what will happen? People will not care about the games announced and focused only on Smash and that’s exactly what is happening now. Nintendo announced some games but people has their mind focused on Smash. So relax.

      1. That’s true for the kind of Nintendo fans that bought a Wii U but something like Metroid Prime 4 could have appealed to Nintendo fans as well as the first person shooter space-marine crowd that have not been into Nintendo’s other games.

          1. I’m well-aware of why MP4 wasn’t shown off and Nintendo’s to blame for people expecting to see more of the game, but my computer point wasn’t specifically about MP4. My point was that it’s not true at all that Smash would just eclipse the announcements of any other big games.

The other reason you feel that way is because you’re not a Nintendo fan buy a Nintendo fan-boy/girl and an apologist. Not everyone is into Smash and part of the reason people are talking about Smash Ultimate way more than Fire Emblem is because Fire Emblem only got a short trailer and Smash got it’s own direct within the E3 presentation and a large chunk of the Nintendo livestream afterwards.

      2. I know, i was reacting to myownfriend’s statement that “the reason people are talking about Smash Ultimate way more than Fire Emblem is because Fire Emblem only got a short trailer and Smash got it’s own direct within the E3 presentation”. I should have made it more obvious who am I reacting to, sorry for the confusion.

      3. I highly doubt that, if they showed more games it would balance out, the only reason smash was huge focus is coz that was all they showed lol

    2. this was ridiculous. they have treehouse for smash coverage. How can they go that deep into that game? And then, the next video on youtube was another video where Sakurai separately explained Smashbros once again. This would’ve totally been enough, goddammit.
This must be one of the most disappointing Nintendo keynotes ever. Not just because I’m just no Smash-Bros guy, but especially because they literally showed only stuff everyone knew was coming and not even that. Bayo 3, Yosho (which was supposed to launch like … now?!?!) and MP4 already got announced and still nothing? And something new? Hello? This time we can’t even blame the rumors for building too much hype, because even no hype would’ve been too much.

But seriously, my wallet is happy. I’ll now just buy some indies or downloadables like Ikaruga and Night in the Woods and keep playing the games I’m playing for the last 7 months. Which basically is fine, I was just hoping for something to look forward to. But yeah, there’s Red Dead Redemption 2 and Last of Us 2 coming, so might be time to get my PS4 back it seems.

      1. Haha I know right? I have said they could have just showed Metroid in a 3D render image as a teaser I’d be happy and loads of others were a no show, I was more impressed by Starlink and Mario x Rabbids dlc lol

      1. Haha was hoping for that asqell… Ninty said no gaming droughts with switch and it’s eggsactly what we’re getting lol

  2. Personally. I loved this E3. Only Smash made me going crazy.

People is sad because they think this isn’t a good Nintendo E3 but they’re wrong, they showed many games very quick.

I understand some of you was expecting MP4, Konami games and others but hey they can probably show it later this year.

Star Fox gets some love and also Wolf came back. The Final Smashes are now very effective and I loved how some of them are very awesome.

I can write so many things but I’m wartching the Nintendo Tree-House for see some new announcement.

    1. I concur. While not too thrilled with the Speedrun showings (most were announced elsewhere), I was very pleased with Smash Ultimate, and with the presentation overall.

Now they just need to announce a Switch Public Demo…

  3. Pingback: Nintendo Explains Why You Didn’t See Games Like Metroid Prime 4 At E3 2018 | My Nintendo News

  4. Smash was great but there was NOTHING ELSE!!!!! Why is Retro’s game still a no show? Where’s Prime 4? Still no Odyssey DLC? Not even more talk of Switch online at least? Fortnite’s only interesting if it’ll have cross play so I can play with my cousin. You had to show something else for 2018 Nintendo. Heck, not even a Spyro announcement lol. I EVEN WOULD’VE TAKEN PRIME TRILOGY HD!!!!!!!

    1. Smash is a key announcement and showing other titles with Smash is pretty bad, not because the games are bad but since Smash is one of the most fav fighting games from many of us the other games were left in the shadow. That’s why Nintendo focused on Smash. If you remember in 2013 they did the same

      1. True, there’s so many games that didn’t get much face time that I’m still looking forward to besides Smash. There’s that Deamon Machina, World Ends With You, Starlink, DBFighterZ (which many ppl were wanting before) and theres also Mario Tennis, Octo-expansion, Donkey Kong expansion for Rabbids… and I’m sure Nintendo will still say there’s more to announce later this year.

I also read on Kamiyas Twitter that Bayo 3 news is coming out next week for n a magazine in Japan (though he trolls a lot cuz people get on his nerves easily lol)

The thing is everyone needs to have patience and let Nintendo do it’s thing and create a great product rather than rush stuff and have everyone complain regardless.

    1. Yeah… sure… by showing some titles already showed at Microsoft press conference like KH3. Oh wait you tell me Death Strading is the best game on PS4? It might be but tell me when the game will be out and explaing the plot, because they are showing this game for 3 years watching some strange things without an explanation of what’s happening there

      1. And? People have been waiting for KH3 for 12 years and you can get it packaged with the HD Remakes of the other Kingdom Hearts games on the PS4. You can’t play it at all on the Switch.

Death Stranding first got shown off 2 years ago and sure it’s not out yet but what’s the problem with it being mysterious? We saw more of it this time and it was still intriguing to people. We lost our shit in 2014 when we saw 30 seconds of footage from what would eventual become BOTW and we continued being hyped despite not knowing much about the game or even the name until E3 2016.

I’m sure you’ll say that’s different because it’s an LOZ game and is part of a series of amazing games but similarly, Death Stranding is a Kojima game and Kojima is part of a short list of gaming autors that has consistently made critically praised games so anybody who’s a Kojima fan has just as much reason to be hyped.

        1. No I’m not gonna say that LoZ is popular so that’s not a problem wait the release of the game. What I was meaning is the plot of the game, while in Zelda BoTW you understand who is the evil and what you have to do in death strading I still don’t understand what you have to do and what’s about the game.

Keeping showing a trailer without a single explanation of the game, to me, is nonsense and people will start to be bored.

About KH. Yeah you have all the games in one package but the price is a bit high also KH3 was in develop in 2011 and finally got a release date. Wow they made it in the end

          1. You’re assuming people would get bored by the Death Stranding teasers yet people watched Lost for 6 seasons.

Didn’t say that KH3 was in development for 12 years, I said people have been waiting for it that long.

      1. Yes haha WFT is my favorite ARMS character!!

Joking aside, I unironically mained Wii Fit Trainer for a while so her return is a welcome one!

  5. Very Mediocre list , won’t be buying any of those games really. So far if I ever do buy the Switch its only going to be for Breath of the Wild. Zelda is my alltime favorite franchise but even that won’t make me spend 350 bucks for this shit.

  6. People were expecting too much from this E3, fortunately i was very low in expectation and I didnt gt frustrated, I’ve got very happy with it. ^^

  7. Well…that was dissapointing and to think that some thought that the bad choices ended with the last administration.

  8. I didnt like the format of the direct, seemed to missing the normal Nintendo charm. Smash is one of favourite games but we didn’t need that much, plus with the release date being so late in the year I think we may get a smash focused direct later. Some of the games they announced quickly could have possibly used some more time. Seems to be missing the that big third party hit. Yes Fortnite is huge but doesn’t have the same effect as say a Fallout remaster or a MGS would. Expected just a little more but Smash this year will make me happy!!

  9. I wasnt expecting anything from anyone, MS was a huge surprise, Sony had some good games, Bethesda was pretty hype, but Nintendo had absolutely nothing. Some idie games, and old ports, how exciting, I know Switch is selling well, but for me personally there have been no truly exciting games for Switch since Zelda, and now I know its not gonna change at least for another half a year

      1. There was nothing that came close to TLoU2, Ghost of Tsushima, RE2, Death Stranding, DMC5, something interesting feature like Game Pass, Cybrepunk, and many other titles.
Now compare any of these titles to PS3 looking FE, Smash Wii U with some additional characters, or your not indie at all OT…
I mean if you are hyped for the games Nintendo presented, then good for you, I just think competition outclassed Nintendo by a lot this E3. Maybe all other companies wont have anything new to show for a long time now and Nintendo will every now and then give us something good, I hope

      2. Its not my fault N’s biggest title this E3 that they decided to spend half ND on was Smash Wii U on Switch. I would like to compare other titles to new Bayo3 gameplay, or Metroid 4 trailer, or main series Pokemon, or F-zero, or anything. But all they have shown was weaksauce, cheap, casual games. I agree its not fair, but blame Nintendo, not me…
And Nintendo not getting 3rd party games like RE2, DMC5, Cyberpunk, and many, many others isnt really something to defend Nintendo with.
And I think fans should demand these 3rd party games, not treat them like they are nothing, it doesnt help the system

      3. Im sure you convinced many people before to your views on games by calling them dumb weaklings or some other cringy name, but somehow its not working for me that well.
What I got from your response is that N’s game are more original than 3rd party games, and you posted link to an interview where Trinen says that they consider Smash wii U and 3DS not ports, but completely different new games, because they were developed in tandem. I hope they also consider every 3rd party multiplat game to be completely different new separate game on PS4, Xbone, Switch, PC, android and iOS.
And why Smash Switch isnt a port of Wii U version?
They tweaked it a little bit, a little bit different moving speed, and character models, some new moves, new characters. It is as original and different to the previous version as a simple Skyrim mod is to the vanilla version, or how FIFA 19 is different and original compared to FIFA 18.
        Really good example.
Maybe you are a hardcore Smash Wii U player and you notice all these tweaks from a light year away and consider them substantial, maybe generational leaps.
But if so then give me some examples of trash 3rd party unoriginal games, designed with primitive players in mind, that were shown in this E3, that are so much less than simple tweaks like Smash Wii U to Smash Switch.
I wonder what it could be, maybe RE2? DMC5? Cyberpunk? Death Stranding? Kingdom Hearts?

      4. So its about balance then, not really a benchmark of originality, but ok.
How is rebalancing in Smash being original, and rebalancing in FIFA or The Crew unoriginal? Or in CoD, new campaign, new balance, maps, models?
From what Ive seen new Smash has a little bit different look, and from Ive heard from people playing it at E3, gameplay feels slightly different, so for me its just like FIFA, small tweaks, barely noticeable, almost on CoD level.
        Interesting quote from this article:
Trinen: My first answer is – has there ever been a port of a Smash Bros. game?
        3DS and Wii U?
Trinen: They were developed in tandem.
Trinen: Yeah. Every Smash Bros. game is a new game.
So again if that is considered “new game” are multiplats multiple new games, each on every system? Is that original also?
And what about games like RE2, DMC, Cyberpunk, DS, KH, and many others that Switch already missed, and many others that Switch is going to miss? With what would you counter them with what is on Switch, or going to be in the next year or 2? Not even mentioning Sony and MS exclusives now…

      5. This rebalancing causes changes in players’ strategies, so it isn’t anything minor. Also, new characters were added to the game and the mechanics were changed. Just look at the slight differences between Street Fighter games that cause them to be viewed as new games. I didn’t say FIFA, CoD or The Crew was unoriginal because it was rebalanced. They were unoriginal games because they unlike Smash announced nothing (or very little) new. They just took real world, tweaked it to fit the game (and be more fun) and that’s it (for FIFA and CoD). In case of The Crew, the mechanic of changing vehicles is just totally dumb, if you’ve seen the gameplay and have above-average IQ, you should agree.

While I am not able to use telepathy, I think Trinen didn’t want to say that both 3DS and WiiU version of Smash were new games, but that it weren’t ports. They were developed in tandem while ports are being developed after the game’s release, so they are not ports.

I think Switch doesn’t have to have every AAA game released, the target audience of the games you mention has PS/Xbox anyway and the Switch would have to be home-only console to be able to run them. In my opinion, the possibility of bringing over fans of these games isn’t worth the needed giving up on innovation, which is currently the thing that makes them Nintendo.

      6. All they had to do when making Smash Switch is tweak a little bit Smash Wii U, making it very unoriginal game.
I dont think CoD is very realistic, single or multiplayer, especially with different modes. And FIFA is meant to be as realistic as possible, its not really but yes they want it to be.
Imagine FIFA, but playing as dragons, and matches last 95min, not 90, not realistic, but it wouldnt change the fact that FIFA next is a tweaked version of FIFA previous.
Smash Switch looks (and reportedly plays) just like Smash Wii U, hence it cant be original, I dont know how can you not see that simple fact.
There is a game just like Smash Switch, 2 games even counting 3DS version.
Good example with Street Fighter, every next version of SF 2 was a new game, new highly unoriginal game, that would be a patch or dlc nowadays.

Trinnes said “every” smash is a new game, and smash wii u and 3ds arent the same game game, differnet look, different modes.

Isnt not that Switch doesnt have to have every single AAA 3rd party game, as you said, it cant. But it doesnt even have most of them, or a half, it gets a few late ports every now and then, wich is pretty bad in my opinion, especially with strong 1st party line up of other systems. Also its horrible excuse that other systems have these 3rd party games, do you want Switch to be everyones second system?
Tablets with detachable controllers existed before Switch, is PS VR also innovative?
And do you really think N wants innovation that bad, not just to repeat easy money machine that Wii was?
Was there something wrong with SNES? Having the best 3rd party multiplats, 3rd party exclusives and awesome 1st party, was it really that inferior to having waggle games on Wii, or a tablet with Switch?
I hope they will make Swtich their next handheld and make a real console next time

  12. Nintendo could have used one more big reveal, even if it was just a title screen. I also think the pacing hurt them. The rapid fire titles seemed great, a lot of the fluff was getting thrown on a sizzle reel. We were amped up for a deluge of titles, and then BAM here’s 30 minutes of a title we already announced. I think I got whiplash from the brakes on that crazy train they started us out on.

  13. Pingback: Video: Live Reactions For Nintendo Direct E3 2018 At Nintendo NY | My Nintendo News

  14. For those that really enjoyed the direct, good for you. For a ton of others, it was a letdown. Too much focus on Smash & a game that got enough focus a few weeks ago.

In fact, for me, Nintendo’s E3 2018 Direct ended the moment it became the Super Smash Bros Direct. We basically got two directs: a very disappointing one & a very good one. List all the games they announced during the direct you want. It doesn’t automatically mean that EVERYONE wants all of those games! Just stop. Everyone is different & not everyone is gonna want the same thing.

    1. I too knew that once we was on smash that was pretty much gona be it.
I kept watching in the hope that the smash talk would end( which seemed like forever ) and then we would get a bit of prime. But No!
I think the highlight for me was we could get hollow knight straight away.

  15. Let’s be honest, besides Smash, which not every Ninteno fan ou there loves, let alone every player in general, it was a very poor show from them, even for what we’re used to. There’s a Wii U era feeling to it, and perhaps not everyone else think that, but it seems as if that suppossed third party strong support was a mere ilusion. We need to see new games coming, not only ports as it has mainly been this far, even from Nintendo themselvers. Very dissapointed by Nintendo for going some steps back, or losing pace instead of leaping forward this important time of the year.

      1. Thanks for answering. At first, I was thinking I was blocked or something. I was like “oh no!”. Until I saw that I could still post in a different way. When I click the little Twitter icon, it opens up the usual wordpress screen, but it just stays solid white forever. Strange.

  16. This E3 for Nintendo was great, but also terrible.

Daemon X Machina and Super Mario Party were some welcome surprises that had no leaks with them. Look really fun. It was great to see Fire Emblem’s new mainline game as well, though it seems as if they over hyped it a little, when they said it would be “Beautiful with great graphics.” I mean, it looks good, but nothing mind blowing or even unique. I forgot a few times that I wasn’t watching Fire Emblem Warriors at times.

Seriously though, Miyamoto said LAST YEAR that Pikmin 4 was “near completion.” So does this confirm he was talking about “hey pikmin?” What’s up with that? No showing for Yoshi 2018, that’s now apparently 2019? They showed the game and it was PLAYABLE when the Switch launched. It’s Wooly World all over again.

Not even a hype teaser for Metroid Prime 4? Pokemon Gen 8? I mean, Sony showed off a whole bunch of games that they showed off last year, and some of those games may not come till next year. Also, where were the third party announcements? The leaks didn’t help, but literally the only real surprise third party game was Daemon X Machina. Nothing on Doom Eternal, Madden, Wolfenstein Young blood, Assassin’s Creed etc? I know we’re STILL dealing with games beginning development before Switch was around, and some if not most of these games can still come, even if it’s a late port, but NOTHING mentioned?

Last question. WTF is Retro Studios working on? Good lord. At any rate, it would appear that after Nintendo hit us with HUGE games once a month in 2017 after Switch launched, 2018 is going to be the slowest year for Switch. It hasn’t been that bad, and we’ve got some killer games coming the rest of the year… however, 2019 is shaping up to be as epic as 2017 was.
