Nintendo Says (When) “We’re Ready To Show Metroid Prime, We’ll Show Metroid Prime”

One of the disappointing things about Nintendo’s E3 2018 presentation was the fact that nothing was shown or mentioned regarding Metroid Prime 4. We knew that the show would be about 2018 games but fans expected at least a teaser at the end. Game Informer caught up with Nintendo of America’s Bill Trinen and localization manager Nate Bihldorff to talk to them about the title and when they think they will reveal it.

Is there anything you can say about Metroid Prime 4? Is there a reason it wasn’t at the show this year?

Trinen: It’s still in development.

Bihldorff: But yeah, we’re not featuring it at E3 this year.

Trinen: I think the main thing is, as people have probably realized by now – we show things when we think we’re ready to show them. And when we think we’re ready to show Metroid Prime, we’ll show Metroid Prime.

More than a logo?

Bill: [Laughs] Last year was the first year for Switch at E3, so we took a bit of a departure from our usual approach to E3, which is to focus on more near-term stuff. Last year, because it was the first year for the hardware, we looked at things that were maybe a little further out. This year, you can see pretty clearly, we’re back to focusing on the near-term. We’ll have more to share with Metroid Prime 4 when we have something we think is going to wow people.

  1. Well, I guess we have to wait.
It better be big enough to shadow Prime 1, though.
Still a little trailer , maybe a minute or two would have been nice.

  2. And I’m sure that when you show it, it will wow me and be totally worth the wait.
BUT I STILL WANT TO SEE IT NOW!

  3. You know we are stubborn Nintendo.
Plenty of games are announced without showing an ounce of real game content. Why not just tease games without showing a bunch of content?
Like, a clip inside the development offices teasing computer screens with 3D models and with the vid ending with a tagline: “Still In Development…”
Or even something like they did with the reveal of Prime4, a simple yet hype inducing logo was all fans needed to ensure their favorite game/character/franchise is coming.
It will serve as an update and a tease, plus, it shows that you have not forgotten about the shown IP.

    1. They did that already with the logo. I’d rather be blown away by what the new experience will be like than hust further teased with more things that tell me nothing. They created hype by not showing it while still focusing on Smash, something popular enough to deserve it. I hope this Prime is an evolutionary step in the franchise. It needs it.

  4. Ridiculous argument. So the philosophy is “let’s use E3 to talk about more of the same we already announced, and the other Directs to actually show new stuff”? And what’s worse: there’s people AGREEING with that?

    1. What are you even talking about?
That is not what he was saying at all.

Were did he say anything about using direct to show games only for what was already announced?
And in fact they were showing some new games.

      1. In that case you wouldn’t be able to count Metroid either
and most games on pretty much every E3 on every PK.

If you just count first party games that have not been talked about in the slightest mention.

Not counting Fire Emblem which we knew absolutely nothing about before is rediculous, for example. Smash similarly.

    2. Welcome to My Nintendo News! People have agreed with a lot of stupid things Nintendo has done. Of course, this is true of any fanbase but still. You’ll get use to it eventually. …. To a certain degree, anyway.

  5. Could of just shown a pic of Samus or something lol … I like how after the event they said no Metroid (or Yoshi) will be shown… Yeah thanks for that, I could of slept and not watched lol

  6. ||Anyways i am used to being called “trileg”, especially when i am near my boyfriend or Liam Robertson…being known as quadraxis isn’t easy, you know?…||

  7. I’m not too worried as I have a ton to play on switch and plenty coming out.

A glimpse would of been nice though after an antagonising year wait.

And, what the hell have retro studios been up to. Still nothing on this??
