The whole situation with Sony and Fortnite has angered many fans with their reluctance to embrace cross-play with the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. The fact that the company won’t allow PlayStation 4 owners of Fortnite who try out the game on their Nintendo Switch to log in with their account has made things worse. The company issued the following statement to the BBC and it doesn’t come across very well. Here’s what they say:
”We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience. Fortnite is already a huge hit with PS4 fans, offering a true free-to-play experience so gamers can jump in and play online. With 79 million PS4s sold around the world and more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms.”
This is what Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime had to say:
”What competitors do is their decision to make,” says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo’s North America chief, in a statement to IGN. “We believe being both developer-forward and fan-forward is in the best interest of the game.”
That still doesn’t tell us if they will fix it I don’t even care if I can’t do cross platform with ps4 I just want my all my stuff that I bought and my progress cuz I don’t want to make a new account and start over when I put so much time in the other
Cross-play doesn’t mean to have cross-features like that, having your stuff on all platforms.
For example, Rocket League has cross-play between PS4, PC, Switch and Xbox but your Rocket League account is different on all the platforms.
Right but ppl have said there’s no restrictions going from Xbox to switch or PC to switch. It’s only if you had an account on PS4 that u can’t use it on switch so that point isn’t valid given the fact that it’s not the same across all other platforms.
Yeah I honestly can’t believe people expected it to work that way.

@mike Pesci You misunderstand, sony didn’t have to sell you a single thing. You could have spent months upgrading your account on PC, then try it on PS4 just once without buying anything and you’re account now has restrictions. It’s not like that with xbox.

Sony’s response is just them beating around the bush, which is kind of pathetic.
Translation of their response:
“No, we won’t let you use your Fortnite account on the Switch. How dare you even ask! You’re stuck here with us for your Fortnite experience.”
As someone who owns a PS4(Pro), and typically doesn’t mind Sony as a company, this is just embarrassing.
If Switch, Xbox and PC are so open to cross-play and cross-features like this, then PlayStation shouldn’t be any different.

Their answer is basically completely ignoring the question… Don’t know if it is just me, but every time Sony is the market leader, they tend to get a bit cocky and arrogant.

Isn’t it ultimately up to Epic, which account can be used on which platform?
Sony could have something in their terms that can make all software/accounts proprietary to them when used in their hardware.
Not saying they do, but it’s possible.
If that’s true, then the FTC should get involved. Sony can’t have exclusive rights to a person’s purchases from a third party. If you’ve spent say $100 on battle passes, outfits and emotes, they can’t just assume control of those asset’s just because you’ve entered their platform. That’s like me jumping into an Uber, now the Uber driver has a say in what’s I’m allowed to do with my luggage in the back of his trunk. It’s my luggage, he has to give them back to me when I leave his car. He can’t tell me where to take them.
It depends if you’ve used their store to make a purchase. Or used their primary account system to log into the sub system. They’re not holding the items, they’re just holding the account.
They wouldn’t be doing it if they didn’t have some ground.

I just read their EULA, I don’t see where they take ownership of previously purchased assets. They only say that you can’t transfer asset’s purchased real or virtual on the PSN, unless where allowed.
That’s why the FTC should get involved. Most of these people started their account on PC or Xbox and made purchases. But if they use a PS4 just once, sony take ownership of their account??? That doesn’t make any sense. I think sony is overstepping here, they got their take of the vbuck sales, they were paid. They can’t set new restrictions on the account.
This is much like the cell phone ownership debacle a few years ago. Cell phones used to be purchased as part of a 2 year plan, you didn’t actually pay for the phone, you just paid for the plan. So cell phone providers said you can’t use those phones on other networks, and locked the sim cards. The government stepped in and said that users did own the cell phone after the contract was up and paid in full. Cell providers were required to remove the restrictions from the devices and allow other sim cards once the contract was over, users were now the full owners of them.
This is more like OEM and proprietary software, like Apple. You control everything so you can brick or slow a device if needed.
Your example was service provider and retailer.
Nothing in the Epic account is proprietary to Sony. It’s about ownership and transference of virtual assets once you sign onto their network and link your Epic account. Once linked, it can never be unlinked.

What a way to not really answer the question of WHY they won’t to it. Makes me so glad I recently sold my PS4 and held on to my Xbox One and Switch.
Just walks around the question in typical Sony fashion. They even do this in court, pretty fun watching the Judge tell off Sony’s lawyer who thought the rules of the courtroom didn’t apply to them because they were attending via phone.
I don’t really care about cross play, but we should at least use the same account. Their servers can determine what platform you’re playing on. There really is no reason other than wanting to keep players on their Sony platform.

Why did Sony just avoid the question again? I play fortnite on xbox but I have friends who play on Nintendo and other consoles, I think if Sony wants to treat this as a way between sony and everyone else not only is that stupid but it’s ruining it for their own players.
