Eurogamer Reveals Their Best Of E3 2018 Games

Video game publication Eurogamer has listed their favourite games of this month’s E3 2018 event. Interestingly, there aren’t any Nintendo games on their list but those who own multiple platforms will be interested to see which games they favoured the most out of all the playable games this year. Without further ado here’s their top five games:

  • Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake
  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
  • Skull & Bones

“So to our choices. Once again, we’re keeping it simple: five games receive our E3 2018 Editors’ Choice award – except this year we picked six because we really couldn’t choose. Sue us, it’s our website. The games are not ranked, not divided by genre, and not separated by any other category of achievement. In order to be eligible, games must have been available to watch or play in a live gameplay demonstration, so no CGI trailers or canned gameplay reveals. Hands-on time isn’t a must, although it helps.”

“Games that were non-eligible due to the lack of a live gameplay demo included Fallout 76, Death Stranding and Devil May Cry 5.”

    1. And what Sony had? More games everyone knew about and only a handful of those. Not much different from Nintendo, or different at all. “Only Smash” was still the best game on E3 for me, it’s really distasteful to not see it on that list.

    1. I haven’t heard anything about assassins creed, but when I read the name of the game here, I thought it was a mistake because it looks so similar to super Mario odyssey. I think it’s kind of a strange name for assassins creed game, especially since MARIO was so big and had the same name

      1. The meaning of the Word Odyssey has more to do with Assasin creed games than Mario games to be honest….. You could argue that the timing is weird but whatever the word can be used with allot of things.

      2. Nintendroidblog, I think the reason it feels off to me, is because of super Mario odyssey. You are right that the word has more meanings, and probably would fit assasins creed really well, but I think because super Mario odyssey released first, it changed how that word feels in my mind (more of a casual fun exciting adventure) and now it feels weird tied to an assasins creed game. So I agree that the word technically fits really well, but due to the timing and being released after Mario, it’s meaning feels different and now it doesn’t feel right.

      3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes place in ancient Greece long before the rise of the Roman Empire but either during or sometime after the second Persian invasion of Greece as one of the items you get is the broken spear of King Leonidas, the King of Sparta who held back the Persians at the Battle of Thermopylae. They chose odyssey because of Homer’s The Odyssey which as you should most likely know is a Greek story. With that in mind, it makes sense why they chose that name. It might even reveal The Odyssey was an actual historical event of some kind in the Assassin’s Creed universe along with the Trojan War.

      4. Infinite Ridley very good explanation! That’s cool that it will tie into the odyssey, that opens up the doors to a lot of creative situations

        1. I don’t know if it’ll tie into The Odyssey & The Iliad but I would hope it does. Mostly using The Odyssey to explain the Odyssey name for the game as the game is set in Ancient Greece & The Odyssey is a story that cropped up during the Ancient Greece time period. Hopefully with the name Odyssey & the game taking place in Ancient Greece, it’s them hinting at the game tying into the Trojan War & it’s aftermath in some way.

  1. Another Forza game is one of their best games of E3??! However good it might be there is a Forza game every year and is it really that different to the last one? It’s like FIFA getting best of show. Kind of shows how lacklustre this year was.

  2. Here’s the 6 games that stood out to me:

    Smash Bros Ultimate
    Fire Emblem Three Houses
    Resident Evil 2 Remake
    Kingdom Hearts 3
    Sekiro Shadows Die Twice
    Super Mario Party

And honestly, after hearing more about Sekiro, my hype has died down a lot for it. Only one weapon? That’s a bit concerning, but i’ll keep an eye on it anyway.
I want to be excited for Death Stranding, but i’m tired of how vague they’re being with what you actually do in the game. They finally show gameplay and it’s just people walking around?… boring.
Cyberpunk 2077 looks far too focused on cinematics for my tastes, but i’ll rent it whenever it comes out in 100 years. I’m not buying into the hype for that one.
I’m super excited for the new Battletoads game. But since they didn’t show a single second of gameplay, i’m going to remain skeptical.
And of course i’m happy that Elder Scrolls 6 was announced, but I won’t be surprised if we’re going to have to wait 3-5 years until it even comes out. I think it was announced too soon. BETHESDA made it very clear that they are finishing that space game (I forget the name) before they move onto ES6.

  3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil 2 Remake, & Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice are good choices as those caught my eye, too.

But for me, mine are Kingdom Hearts 3, Smash (Ridley & Young Link & Ice Climbers, oh my! (if you don’t get the movie reference, I pity you.), Death Stranding (Kojima & Guillermo del Toro making a Cthulu-esque game… I don’t think I need to say more as to why this is here), and… Well shit. I thought I’d be able to recall more. lol
