It looks like Nintendo is planning to support Mario Tennis Aces long after launch. The upcoming Nintendo Switch game, which arrives this Friday, June 22,is getting downloadable content (DLC) in the form of additional playable characters. Diddy Kong, Birdo and Paratroopa are among the athletes that will be joining the roster in September. Nintendo will announce more details about DLC at a later date, so stay tuned for any updates. If you pre-purchase Mario Tennis Aces by June 21 at 11:59 p.m. ET, you’ll receive double the amount of Gold Points on My Nintendo.
Hopefully free DLC.
Sounds like drip fed content ala Splatoon to encourage players to come back and reengage. Kind of like how they’re using early access for the first two dlc characters to get people to play their tournament events.
First two tournaments? When was the 2nd one?
@PiePiePie “If you participate in the online tournament that will be held in July after the game launches [and] if you earn enough points in the tournament, you can earn Koopa Troopa as a playable character early,” Roxanne said. “Otherwise, he will be available for everyone starting Aug. 1.”
Similarly, players who take part in an online tournament in August will get access to Blooper early. For everyone else, Blooper will be unlocked in September.

Birdo’s been on a hiatus in the recent sports titles.
Same with the Karting outings.
It’s not DLC since they are on disk o3o but it is set up for them to roll out over time like in splatoon/arms
You still download the code that unlocks the on disc content :P
