SEGA’s Nagoshi Explains He Pitched Yakuza To Nintendo And Microsoft But Both Weren’t Interested

The Yakuza series would be an excellent addition to the ever-growing Nintendo Switch library and it turns out the series was initially pitched to Nintendo. Speaking to EDGE, Toshihiro Nagoshi, said that he had done presentations of the game to both Nintendo and Microsoft but was told back then that they didn’t want it. Now he says that ultimately both companies would like the series on their platforms.

“I’ve never said this before, but while we released this game with Sony, I’d done presentations about it to Microsoft and Nintendo. Back then they said “No we don’t want it.” Now they say, “We want it!” (laughs) They didn’t understand the reason why I created it.”

      1. Yeah? How can you tell “it’s a really bad game,” as you so eloquently put it? I doubt you can tell, mostly because you sound like a rather closed minded moron who judges something before ever learning about it.

  1. It’s so weird. I just recently started playing Yakuza Kiwami on PS4. But MAN, I HATE the fact that the characters all speak in Japanese (with English subtitles). I get super dizzy and motion sick after a while having to read so darn much (that and the twisty camera). I’ll be lucky if I can get to the end of this game. The play control in Sleeping Dogs was SO much better. Not to mention, it was in English. I also hate how you’re so restricted to where you can and can’t go in Yakuza Kiwami. At least in the early points of the game.

    1. they tried the Eng dub and it failed so they went back with Jap dubs with Eng subs which i don’t get why people think its a bad thing also there are people who watch anime exclusively with Eng subs claiming Ebg dubs are bad, i dont recall Chris Sabat or Vic Mignogna or Sean Schemmel being bad VA’s

  2. So just because someone at Microsoft and Nintendo said they weren’t interested in it 13 years ago he’s surprised that a different set of people making those decisions would now like it on their platforms? This guy sounds like a bit of an idiot to me.

      1. Well, since then, the President of Nintendo has passed, and the acting president that took the place of Iwata has stepped down and we now have a 3rd face. And with MS Mattrick has moved on and and the company basically reconstructed while under Spencer… So yes.

    1. If you think Nintendo is changing because the key people in charge have changed, you truly don’t know Nintendo that well. They aren’t changing because the people have changed, they are “changing” because money. Some people will sacrifice their values & what they believe in just to fill their coffers.

    1. Yeah that theory has been floating around since the day of the direct. Apparently that’s the reason why all of the new character announcements have also included a character “dying” and losing it’s soul/spirit.

  3. That’s kinda funny and sounds just like both of those companies. Too bad Yakuza maybe just maybe could have gone the Bayonetta route at least with this remaster
