SEGA Had Proposed A Metroid Game To Nintendo

Respected, but rather harsh, gaming publication EDGE, has a bumper interview with famed SEGA developer Toshihiro Nagoshi. During the interview Mr. Nagoshi touched on the fact that he had made a proposal for a Metroid game in the past to Nintendo, but sadly the idea was rejected by the company. He didn’t elaborate what the pitch was or the time frame to EDGE. Here’s what was said:

“I really liked the Super Famicom game, and while we made a few proposals – Metroid for instance, and others – I was most confident in making a driving game because of my experience in the genre, though I’d never make a sci-fi one.”

  1. Considering how badly things go with their own IP, I dread to think what would have happened to Metroid.

      1. Sega and av Amusements (known for the first two Super Monkey Ball games) helped work on F-Zero GX for the Gamecube. I think they partnered up with Nintendo to develop it rather than do it all on their own.

      1. They wouldn’t be doing it again.
If they had made Metroid, it would’ve been instead of F-Zero GX.
Considering GX is one of the greatest games of all time, to the point where Nintendo gave up on ever surpassing it, chances are Sega’s Metroid would’ve been somewhat decent.

    1. Not sure what you’re on about, most of SEGA’s IP’s, beside Sonic, have been excellent. And they ended up making the best F-Zero game possible so…

      1. Yeah but I don’t know if SEGA will ever do another partnership with Nintendo and make a F-zero game like that again. So, it’s just gonna be in another development company like Platinum studios or some random studios like retro studios who did Donkey Kong country returns. Actually scratch that. Tropical Freeze.

      1. We got it bro, no need to spam your bs here. First of all F zero N64 was better and second The team behind at Sega already left years ago. We are talking about the present and future here if you still didn’t get it.

No need to spam your wanna be smarty pants here.

      1. But that was back when Amusement Vision still existed, the same developer that made Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, also great games.

  2. No thank you Sega… Fix Sonic, Shinobi and whatever other IP i might give a shit about before coming to ask for Metroid…
I guess, as things are now, a Sega metroid game would be worse than Metroid Other M…. Heck, It could be worse than Federation Force….
Metroid Prime Federation Force Battle Royale…… Shit No!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Yes they did, and it was the last f Zero game we’ve had.
      Surely it’s time for another.

Sega have had a bad rap lately so a new follow up to gx could do them wonders.

  3. Naah.. gime something metroid fusion quality. Actual 2D metroid for 3ds is soo poor. I need dktropicalfreeze quality 2D metroid game.. with mysterious story, secret places and hard obtain secret weapons, run for life sections and some hard without suit levels..
