Bloodstained Has Been Pushed Back To 2019

The long-awaited and long-overdue Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been delayed once again. The team cites quality issues and user feedback as the reasons behind the delay, which will see the game release in 2019. The team have also revealed that they have canned the PlayStation Vita version of the action platformer. Those who had ordered the PlayStation Vita version can choose another platform or request a refund. Here’s the message posted on the Kickstarter page:

“Our first announcement is that the game will now launch in 2019. The most important reason for this is to raise the quality level, especially after all the very valuable feedback from the Beta Backer Demo.

The second announcement is that the game will no longer launch on PlayStation Vita. This decision is largely due to Sony’s plans to discontinue the Vita console, ending production of physical copies and stopping certain online store support features.

It is extremely unfortunate, but as a result, we won’t be releasing the game on Vita. For the backers who have ordered the PS Vita version of the game, you will be able to choose another platform or request a refund.”

  1. This is a bit worrying especially as there’s no commitment to anything more specific than 2019. Hopefully it turns out ok in the end.

  2. I always hoped this game would be like symphony of the night or like the gameboy advance castlevanias but every time I see the latest gameplay video I’d tell myself “ it’s in development and should look, play better before release”. Sadly it never seemed to improve, at least just by watching the videos…so hopefully this delay serves the game well as I want this to succeed and be a good game.

    1. The graphics I understand, but as someone who played the beta demo they gave to backers, it actually played very well and was a lot of fun.

      1. That’s actually good to hear. I haven’t played it but every video I’ve seen so far kinda left me hoping for more when it came to gameplay. It’s good to hear that it played well. I wonder what the feedback was cuz if it was just graphics then that’s actually a good thing. I usually don’t worry about graphics but when the 8 bit Curse of the Moon has better atmosphere (imo) and resembles the game more Ritual of the Night is trying to be (Castlevania), you kinda gotta question the art direction at least.

Wish I would have backed it though as I could make a better judgement by playing it rather than just watching videos of RotN

  3. Oh noo :(..
I dont need multiplayer and minigame. Gime serious singleplayer castlevania. I own all gba and ds title and love it so much. Dont need animated background. Gime tons of items, weapons and spell combinations (circle of the moon card system or glyphs from ecclesia ;). But Please no more pushed back :( its Only 2D platformer! Cmon, work right Igi..

  4. Oh God. The game isn’t looking good as is, so pushing back to try and work things out makes sense (though I have little hop for it). But cancelling the Vita version? Come on now, there are workarounds. So you wouldn’t get a physical copy? Oh well. People payed for that, it’s not right to straight up cancel it.
Grrr, another Kickstarted game with incompitant devs behind it.

    1. Down of sorrow 2005 Portrait of ruin 2006 Order of ecclesia 2008. 2D metroidvania dont need too long time for release. Great ecclesia game Only two year in development! I dont need more (and dont need less, yes).

      1. Well, those came out more consistently because of Konami rushing the games a lot more. They don’t want to rush things here. Portrait of Ruin was amazing, but we’re only left to imagine what it could’ve been like if it wasn’t rushed.

      2. It’s 2D gameplay but this is actually a 3D rendered game so it does take more work than those older games you listed… perhaps even more polygons depending on how layered they are making these levels (visually speaking)

  5. Releasing alongside Final Fantasy VII remake?
I liked the “nes” throwback game, so this is actually one of the few, if not only indie game I’m waiting for.

    1. What? FFF7 remake is not comming next year, they started the development this year xD you will be lucky if you see the remake in 2022.

    2. If I remember correctly, they fired the 3rd party dev team they hired to do the remake & moved development in-house. If the change in dev team with Final Fantasy Versus XIII (now known as Final Fantasy XV) is anything to go by, I highly suggest to not expect that game to come out for some time as they most likely scrapped every bit of work that the former team had done so the new team can start from scratch. (Sadly, if you ask many in regards to FFXV, this didn’t really do the game, or the fans wanting FFVSXIII, any favors as the game got released unfinished with a lot of backstory being released as separate things like a movie, an anime, a phone game, & tons of DLC packs released with even more on the way.)
