Best Buy Canada’s Wolf amiibo Page Suggests That amiibo Can Be Used To Instantly Unlock Characters In Smash Ultimate

Best Buy Canada has a page for the Wolf amiibo, and it contains something that may interest you. You see, the overview section for the amiibo says that you can “tap the amiibo accessory to the NFC touchpoint on your game system to unlock this Space Pirate”. If so, this suggests that you can use your amiibo to instantly unlock characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Here’s what the page said about the matter in full:

Access a whole new level of fun and smash the competition with this Super Smash Bros amiibo. A former fighter in Andross’ army, the Wolf now leads his own mercenary team, and he’s not one you want to cross. Simply tap the amiibo accessory to the NFC touchpoint on your game system to unlock this Space Pirate.

    1. I have them all and I won’t use any of them to unlock fighters that’s too easy for me personally and boring as well lol. Can’t wait for the new amiibo though, King K Rool is gonna be my new favorite.

        1. Hahahaha I don’t blame you lol you’ve waited long enough. I’ve been waiting for K Rool since melee so I feel your pain lol. Pretty sweet we are both getting our most wanted in the same game. Now if they can just give me Dixie Kong I’d cry tears for years!

  1. If this is true, which sounds likely. Fast unlocks is the best possible use for amiibo, as your not gating content to people who don’t buy them while also rewarding people who do.
I can unlock quite a big chunk of the roster at the start if I wanted to, but I’ll likely just unlock them the normal way.

  2. Never. Give me the original 8 and unique challenges to unlock them.

I might keep a Mewtwo handy though, just in case.

  3. If this is true I will not unlock characters via this method, despite being tempted to by my 130+ amiibo collection. I unlocked all the costumes in Mario Odyssey via amiibo and felt very unfulfilled.

    1. Lol didn’t know you could do that in odyssey but I wouldn’t have used any anyways, I will always choose the unlock route as opposed to the amiibo form of unlocking personally. Did you beat odyssey 100%?

      1. No, I didn’t feel motivated to. Don’t get me wrong, Odyssey’s a fantastic game, I just didn’t think the postgame content was very fulfilling.

                1. Oh hahaha yea it’s ridiculous lol. They could have done more for them or just made the number at whatever it is before you are required to buy the rest. Not exciting at all lol

                  1. “Let’s talk trash about 3rd party games doing collect-a-thons while, at the same time, releasing two of our biggest games of the Switch’s first year which have a ridiculous number of something to collect!” Pfft. 900 Korok Seeds and 999 Power Moons.

      2. If you found the main game a little too easy, the post-game is where it gets interesting. It’s kinda like skipping the Special Worlds in Super Mario 3D Land

        1. I beat the whole game, can’t remember if I did it in two weeks or a month, I think it was just two weeks though lol. When it comes to a main series Mario game I can’t stop playing lol. Can’t recall if it was too hard. I don’t remember getting crazy frustrated but I know I had fun the whole time lol

  4. I have all the smash amiibo besides the long hair bayonetta and female corrin, (and possibly advent cloud but I think I got him) and I am getting the new ones, but to collect only. I’m all about the challenges lol I would never use amiibo to bypass a challenge even if it’s simple. Would conflict too much with my desire to 100% the game on my own.

    1. I’m the same. I had almost all smash amiibo and some other favs but I don’t think I ever used them for anything except Toad on Captain Toad and some LoZ amiibo for BOTW. Oh, and I guess Shovel Knight for that game.

But yeah, there’s not really a lot of fun to use them… except maybe Warioware Gold. It was a little amusing.

      1. I forgot about captain toad, never used them in that one. Really loved that game though, I hope they do another one. Slightly tempted to get the switch version. And I used Zelda amiibo in botw to unlock costumes you couldn’t get otherwise lol

  5. I may be in the minority, but I just love amiibos. I never regret te he purchase of one, even if it does nothing(I’m looking at YOU, Boo amiibo).

      1. I need to go through my amiibo collection & make sure I got Glow in the Dark Boo amiibo. If I lost it in the fire, I hope they aren’t too pricey now. Of course, I’ll gladly pay the price (Unless it’s over 50 bucks!) because I’m a sucker for any glow in the dark products that pique my interest.

        1. I agree. I also rarely use the Kirby I won in a competition, but it’s likely as I don’t frequent his titles.
At least Mario Maker breathed life into most of my Amiibo for the short span I played it.

    1. The twist will be that all amiibo unlock King Dedede.

Except the Waluigi amiibo. That unlocks Ridley… since they are the same height and Waluigi will be an echo fighter of Ridley

  6. If they can get it where you can unlock DLC characters instead of effectively buying them twice if you collect amiibo, that’d be great.

      1. That depends on whether or not they release as the DLC comes out this time.

If Ridley, Inkling, and Wolf, as well as the entirety of the wave 1 amiibo for Wii U Smash (Although there was the 3DS version a month prior) can come out at launch, surely, they can time DLC character releases to coincide with the DLC releases and have two unlock methods… right?

      2. I had a brain fart there. It’s kinda a moot point because there aren’t two versions of ultimate… so no reason to buy two versions of DLC characters this time.
But yeah, they wouldn’t just unlock DLC with an amiibo. The DLC devs wouldn’t really get their money due that way.

  7. While I do own all the Smash Bros amiibos currently out, I won’t use them, I wanna unlock them the good old way.

  8. They seem to have ignored that Ridley and Inkling amiibo say this too; I’m surprised it was Wolf they caught it on lol…
