Starting in September, Nintendo is launching a series of bundles, controllers and “starter pack” versions of games for Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. These items, which range from a Special Edition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to a New Nintendo 2DS XL bundle in a chic new color, are great for every type of player … and all conveniently fit inside the average-size holiday stocking.
“We want to give people a variety of options and price points when shopping for themselves or the Nintendo fans in their lives,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “Whether looking for a portable system for a first-time gamer or a cool controller to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Nintendo has great gifts for all ages this holiday season.”
Some of the new Nintendo products that will launch between September and this holiday season include:
- On Sept. 28, a New Nintendo 2DS XL system in a new purple + silver color with the high-octane Mario Kart 7 game pre-installed will be available at a suggested retail price of only $149.99. Both of the currently available New Nintendo 2DS XL color schemes (black + turquoise and white + orange) will also be changed to bundles with the Mario Kart 7 game pre-installed on the same day.
- Also on Sept. 28, the “starter pack” versions of three top-rated Nintendo Switch games will launch in stores. These versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey will launch with the game and a colorful strategy guide at a suggested retail price of $59.99 each.
- A bundle featuring a new Nintendo Switch Pro Controller adorned with the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate logo, a steel case and the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game launches on Dec. 7 at a suggested retail price of $139.99. The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch Pro Controller will also launch as a standalone product on the same day (Dec. 7) at a suggested retail price of $74.99.
This is just a sneak peek at what fans can look forward to this holiday season, with many other great games for Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems slated for release. Three of Nintendo’s longest running and most popular series are coming to Nintendo Switch with Super Mario Party (Oct. 5), Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! (both on Nov. 16) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Dec. 7). In addition to the recently launched WarioWare Gold game, some notable upcoming releases on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems include YO-KAI WATCH BLASTERS (Sept. 7) and Luigi’s Mansion (Oct. 12).

I believe the xenoblade one was also $75, you see this with xbone and ps4 controllers as well. Simple color change keeps the price the same, but logos and designs cost more

A steel case that size just for a tiny game card… *sigh* That’s as much of a waste, if not more so, of precious materials as making a big ass plastic case for a tiny game card…
Lol yea that is true, not sure if steel is as bad for the environment as plastic or not but I think plastic is worse, steel is more recyclable I’m pretty sure, and plastic causes chemicals and takes much longer to degrade over time if left polluted somewhere. Is the steel case bigger than a normal switch case do you know by chance?
From looking at the picture, I want to say it’s a safe bet is the same size as a normal Switch case. :/

It’s a steelbook case that’s the same size as the regular game case. Many video games and movies come out with Steelbook Case Editions and are meant to appeal to collectors. That case is literally the only reason I pre-ordered the bundle, seeing as I’m not too enthusiastic about the design on that pro controller and already have the Gamecube controller pre-ordered and planned to use that instead. I was actually going to skip out on Mario Kart until Best Buy started selling it with a Steelbook. I’m a sucker for thosr Steelbooks!
So people buying the Pro controller admit Nintendo should make a HOME console again, because portable the controls and holding it for hours ain’t that great compared to the 3DS.
3DS gives me cramps even the XL, the Switch feels way better for portable gaming.

I own a Pro Controller since it is one of my favorite controllers of all time. I love using it in docked mode (and on PC via Steam).
In handheld mode I just use, well, the attached Joy Cons which work just fine for me as well.
Even if that were not the case, I don’t see how buying a Pro Controller could possibly mean “admitting” to anything like that…
I feel the same, consoles are much better. I never use my switch in handheld mode.

Why spend money in a pro controller that you are not going to be able to use it. Once they make mario party pro controller friendly I’ll buy one.
I think the reason why the Pro Controller isn’t supported could be due to the nature of the mini games. I think some of them require seperate hand gestures which can only be done with a Joy-Con in each hand, and not with one controller that you need both hands for.
Nothing on the fact that Mario Kart 7 (also from 2011) is being used as a big selling point for the New 2DS XL kind of shows how bad its lineup is now. It should also be noted that the 2DS is normally bundled with Mario Kart 7, so this kind of signals to me the fact that the 2DS is about to be discontinued (if it’s not already), and with stereoscopic being removed from many new games, also says the New 3DS XL is about to be discontinued (if it’s not already). The New 2DS XL is about to be the last system in the family left on shelves, and it’s kind of weak. However, dropping it down to the $100 price tag allows Nintendo to lower the Switch to $150, especially when the dockless unit finally comes to the West, and be the only unit they have at that price.
