Best Buy has announced today that it will be holding special Super Smash Bros Ultimate in store events starting from the 8th of September until the 7th of October 2018. It will be a chance for some of you to go hands-on with the game for the first time.
“Here is your chance to play this highly anticipated game from Nintendo before it launches on Friday, December 7. Choose one of the many new characters or play as one of your favorite returning characters.
Early access gameplay and prizes will be available only at select Best Buy locations. You could be one of the first to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch.”

People live in other places too, ya know? I mean… at least there seemed to be decent coverage with the Sm4sh Best Buy demo event.
I agree… I still had to drive 1.5 hours to play, but it sounds better than 6+ for me.
I know right! Just hit every state!
To be fair, this may not be worth the long wait in line for something that will be less than 5 minutes of gameplay.
I’m sure it’ll be a long wait with everyone piling in so few locations.
It wasn’t too bad where I was at. Well… The initial wait was long but everyone seemed to just want one go so you could hang out and play again quickly. Plus I got my hands on a 3DS demo a rep had taken off their belt and that was good.
Admittedly, it did seem pretty bad at first. I waited behind some yahoo who brought like two gamecube controllers and his own pro controller (obviously he didn’t get to use any of them for the demo) and then a group that was like “OHHH… Should we pick new characters or pick someone we’re good with to show our mad skillz?” They lost. To me. It wasn’t fun.
But then it seemed like the cool people stayed around after that and it was a good time just taking turns and watching matches while sitting around the tv
Ugh. Seriously. I was hoping there would be one in ya know, the giant nerd city that is Portland, but no, Seattle. That’s three times as far as Portpand, thanks.
This is stupid. Why can’t you just update the kiosks to include a timed demo? They did it with Mario Odyssey, why not Smash Bros?

What about Vegas?… where the Smash scene is really big? I understand having events at cities like LA or New York, but Minneapolis? Denver? Really? Do people even live there?
You act like it’s some no name hick place. More people live in Denver than Vegas (literally in the middle of of a desert). It’s more of an issue of all of NYC, Chicago, and Los Angeles having one location. Those stores are going to be pure hell. Even back during Smash 4, they had at least two in the Chicago area at least. I’m sure they are limiting the number of units to avoid them being stolen and data mined.
My bad, I’m just salty all these other places get Smash demos and we don’t. But Nintendo should take into account the large Smash scene here in Vegas. EVO, one of the largest fighting game tournaments in the world, takes place here with Smash 4 and Melee having a strong presence at the event.
Why can’t they just do it like they did with the 3DS version and give us a downloadable demo?
At this point, I think it’s safe to assume Nintendo (and others that do this kind of limited cities crap for big game demos) are in league with gas & airline companies. Everyone wins! Except the ones having to drive hundreds of miles that is.
Or spend hundreds on plane tickets.
