In a new Nintendo Direct video presentation, Nintendo revealed that new games in two major Nintendo series are currently in development for the Nintendo Switch system. Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch (working title), a new main game in the Animal Crossing series, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 (working title), will both come exclusively to Nintendo Switch in 2019. The video presentation also debuted a new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch hardware and software bundle.
The Nintendo Direct revealed a diverse lineup of games headed to Nintendo Switch, including a massive collection of classic FINAL FANTASY games, an HD remake of the beloved Katamari Damacy game and adaptations of some best-selling card and board games like Carcassonne and Pandemic. If that’s not already enough, the Nintendo Direct also unveiled new details for Nintendo Switch Online, highlighted a solid selection of Nintendo 3DS games and revealed more details about previously announced Nintendo Switch games like Yoshi’s Crafted World, DAEMON X MACHINA and Mega Man 11.
“The announcements for Nintendo Switch keep coming,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With the additions of new games in the Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion series, as well as a surge of new games from our development partners, there really is something for everyone in the ever-growing Nintendo Switch library.”

Nintendo Switch
- Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch (working title): A new mainline game in the Animal Crossing series – the first since Animal Crossing: New Leaf debuted on Nintendo 3DS in 2013 – is slated for a 2019 release exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
- Isabelle Joins the Fight!: Taking a break from assisting mayors and just being an all-around lovely pup, Isabelle from the Animal Crossing series is joining the roster as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- Luigi’s Mansion 3 (working title): The next installment in the spooky series is currently in production and launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch in 2019.
- Nintendo Switch Online: With Nintendo Switch Online, members gain access to online play and Save Data Cloud backup in compatible games, the NES – Nintendo Switch Online collection of classic games with added online play, special offers and a smartphone app with features to make online gaming sessions more fun and engaging for supported games. In addition to Splatoon 2, more online games will support voice chat through the app, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS and Mario Tennis Aces. Nintendo Switch owners won’t automatically become members when the service launches on Sept. 18, so they will need to purchase an individual or family membership in order to continue enjoying their online play in compatible games. - Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers: Playing NES – Nintendo Switch Online will feel even more authentic by using the new wireless Nintendo Entertainment System Controller, available for purchase exclusively for Nintendo Switch owners with a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership in the U.S. and Canada. This re-creation of the original, iconic NES controller comes in a pack of two for $59.99 and can be charged by attaching to a docked Nintendo Switch system. - New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe: Up to four players can enjoy this revamped version of the classic Wii U launch game when it comes to Nintendo Switch on Jan. 11. Mario, Luigi and Toad return as playable characters, and are joined by Nabbit and Toadette, who can also turn into Peachette by getting a Super Crown, offering new ways for beginners to play together with friends and family. New Super Luigi U, the first platformer with Luigi in a starring role, will also be included in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe at no extra charge. Between both games, there are a whopping 164 courses to play. Mamma mia!
- Yoshi’s Crafted World: Play as an adorable Yoshi traveling through a world crafted from household items like boxes and paper cups in this new Nintendo Switch platforming adventure. After traveling through a perfectly constructed stage, players can start at the goal and journey back to the start on the “flip side,” the backside of the course, to discover secrets. Yoshi’s Crafted World launches on Nintendo Switch in spring 2019.
- Nintendo Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Set: This upcoming Nintendo Switch bundle features the Nintendo Switch system – complete with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate branded Joy-Con controllers and dock – and a download code for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimategame, all at a suggested retail price of $359.99. The Nintendo Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Set launches on Nov. 2. (The download code for the game won’t be active until the game launches on Dec. 7.)
- FINAL FANTASY Extravaganza!: High-definition versions of some of the most beloved FINAL FANTASY games of all time are coming to Nintendo Switch. This includes FINAL FANTASY VII, IX and X / X-2 HD Remaster, as well as the recently released FINAL FANTASY XII: THE ZODIAC AGE. This is the first time any of these FINAL FANTASY games has been released on a Nintendo system. Starting today, FINAL FANTASY XV Pocket Edition HD will be available to download in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch. In addition, three other games in the FINAL FANTASY universe will launch on Nintendo Switch in the near future: The leveled-up edition of WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY MAXIMAlaunches Nov. 6, Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon EVERY BUDDY! launches this winter and Nintendo GameCube co-op game FINAL FANTASYCRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition with online multiplayer and no need for a link cable comes to Nintendo Switch in 2019. - TOWN (working title): GAME FREAK, the developer of the Pokémon series, has created a new RPG for Nintendo Switch. In TOWN, players must take up arms against invading monsters, all within the walls of a single village. TOWN launches for Nintendo Switch in 2019.
- Super Mario Party: In the newly revealed Sound Stage mode, up to four players can each shake a Joy-Con in rhythm-based gameplay, while the River Survival mode offers the series’ first four-player co-op. Plus, there’s 80 new mini-games, a single-player Challenge Road, the mini-game gauntlet Online Mariothon and much more. Super Mario Party launches for Nintendo Switch on Oct. 5 and is available for pre-purchase on Nintendo eShop and the game’s website beginning today.
- Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!: During the adventure, players will be able to overcome obstacles with their partner Pokémon (either Pikachu or Eevee) using Secret Techniques. These are skills that only partner Pokémon can use, like chopping down trees, traveling across water or soaring in the sky. Both games launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch on Nov. 16. A bundle that includes a Pikachu and Eevee themed Nintendo Switch system and Joy-Con, a Pokémon: Let’s Go! game and the Poké Ball Plus controller will also be available on the same day.
- Katamari Damacy REROLL: “Na naaaaah na na na naaah na na naaaaah na na na na na naaaaaaaaah.” Fans of the groundbreaking Katamari Damacy game can hum its theme song at a moment’s notice. But new fans will be joining the chorus when an HD remaster of the classic game comes to Nintendo Switch, complete with HD Rumble, gyro control and multiplayer support with the Joy-Con controllers. Katamari Damacy REROLL launches in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch on Nov. 30, with the physical packaged version coming winter 2018.
- Asmodee Digital: With a literal Tabletop mode, tabletop gaming is a perfect fit for Nintendo Switch. To prove it, Asmodee Digital is bringing full adaptations of best-selling card and board games like Carcassonne, The Lord the Rings: Living Card Game, Pandemic, Munchkin and Catan to Nintendo Switch, starting this December.
- DAEMON X MACHINA: In this stylish action game first revealed at E3, the world and its inhabitants are on the brink of extinction. As a mercenary, players will pilot a powered suit called an Arsenal and face runaway AI. Defeat enemies and acquire parts that can be equipped on the fly or brought back to base to craft new armaments. Use additional tactics by changing between projectile and melee attacks or take the fight on foot to gain an advantage in battle. DAEMON X MACHINA launches for Nintendo Switch in 2019.
- Capcom Beat ’Em Up Bundle: Some of Capcom’s most classic arcade games like Final Fight, Captain Commando and Knights of the Roundare coming to Nintendo Switch with up to four-player local or online play. This also includes games that have never launched on home consoles before like Armored Warriors and Battle Circuit. The digital version of this bundle launches in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch this winter.
- Cities: Skylines: The acclaimed city-building game is available today in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch, which means players can manage resources, improve quality of life, energize businesses and stimulate growth anytime or anywhere.
- Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: When the acclaimed strategy game comes to Nintendo Switch on Nov. 16, it will do so with an exclusive four-player wireless LAN multiplayer mode.
- Mega Man 11: The Blue Bomber is back! Mega Man 11 rocks on Nintendo Switch on Oct. 2, with a free demo already available in Nintendo eShop. In addition, players will be able to unlock helpful in-game items for use in the full game by tapping the existing Mega Man amiibo figure, or a new Mega Man amiibo figure, which is included exclusively in the Mega Man 11 – amiibo Edition.
- Splatoon 2 Version 4 Update: Starting tonight, the first set of weapons in the Kensa Collection is coming to Splatoon 2 as part of the new Version 4.0 update. These familiar weapons are painted with stylish monotone designs. In addition, significant new Splatfest changes are coming as part of this update. In early October, Version 4.1 will bring a new stage, new songs and more Kensa Collection weapon sets complete with new sub and special weapons. - Mario Tennis Aces Version 2.0 Update: After downloading a free update to the action-packed sports game on Sept. 19, players will have access to a new online co-op mode that lets players participate in time-limited missions with other players. Also, be on the lookout for new upcoming playable characters like Birdo, Shy Guy, Koopa Paratroopa and Petey Piranha.
- Diablo III: Eternal Collection: The Nintendo Switch version of this classic action-RPG will send players on a journey through Sanctuary, where they’ll vanquish the armies of Hell and plunder powerful loot as one of the seven playable classes. Up to four players can adventure together via local or online multiplayer. The Nintendo Switch version of the game features the exclusive Legend of Ganondorf cosmetic armor set, compatibility with all amiibo figures and more. Diablo III: Eternal Collection launches Nov. 2.
- Starlink: Battle for Atlas: Do a barrel roll and defeat Wolf’s team in Star Fox missions, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. Starlink: Battle for Atlas launches for Nintendo Switch on Oct. 16.
- Two RPGs on the Way!: Fans who love playing role-playing games anytime and anywhere are in luck! - EA SPORTS FIFA 19: EA SPORTS FIFA 19 is fast approaching, and players can pre-purchase now so they won’t drop the ball when it launches for Nintendo Switch on Sept. 28.
- Team Sonic Racing: Gotta go FAST! Like, really fast. Team Sonic Racing launches for Nintendo Switch this winter.

Nintendo 3DS
- Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn: The hit Wii game Kirby’s Epic Yarn is warping to Nintendo 3DS. Every stage in the original Wii version is stitched in, but this Nintendo 3DS version has some new features, like the ability to craft bigger yarn balls, summon bead-collecting wind and play two new modes featuring familiar faces King Dedede and Meta Knight. Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn is scheduled to launch for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems in 2019.
- Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey: One of the most acclaimed games in the Mario & Luigi RPG series is getting a remake on Nintendo 3DS. In addition to the game’s revamped graphics and refined gameplay, a new side story follows Bowser Jr. as he gathers an army, creates formations, supports his allies with an arsenal of moves and generally causes chaos (in the best way possible). Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey will prove two adventures are better than one on Jan. 11.
- Luigi’s Mansion: Two players who each own the game can team up to explore and capture ghosts in Luigi’s Mansion, a Nintendo 3DS remake of the classic Nintendo GameCube launch game. This new version of the game also features amiibo support. Tapping one of the four compatible amiibo will reveal where Boos are hiding and heal Luigi when he talks to Toad, among other bonuses. Luigi’s Mansion will haunt the Nintendo 3DS family of systems on Oct. 12.
- YO-KAI WATCH BLASTERS: Whether players throw their allegiance behind the Red Cat Corps or the White Dog Squad, YO-KAI WATCH BLASTERS lets players team up with friends locally or online to tackle the most action-packed battles in the series yet. A free “Moon Rabbit Crew” software update on Sept. 27 will add new missions, new areas to explore, new Yo-kai to befriend and new Big Boss Yo-kai. For me it was a good Direct since last year because I really enjoyed it with some strange and unexpected announcements, some hope for good stuff in november and beyond and no filler in this direct with 10 minutes long games nobody cares about so this direct was a 8,5 for me.
Showing Animal crossing gameplay or some Metroid art would made it an 9/10 and 10/10 would be new Zelda on botw engine announced or some crazy big MMO for Switch.

So if I had no intention of ever using the online service, they are now locking accessories behind it? I just want these for all the other games that would no doubt work with them. This sounds like a Club Nintendo reward, except you have to pay a fee to join the club and then instead of exchanging points for the rewards, you just pay for their full value.
It’s almost like the description of the online service says it includes “special offers” for members…. 🤔🤔🤔
Club Nintendo also offered “special offers” for members, except you didn’t have to pay to join and then pay full price for the items anyway. I dont know how anyone could possibly defend this practice, this is them forcing you to essentially get a subscription even if you had no intention to before if you just want to purchase an accessory that has far more use then just the NES games. This would be different if it was a normal retail item and they just gave you a discount on it or let you get them early.

Probably one of the more bad directs. All this wait, all this patience, and very little of surprise or good was announced; especially with the online service. Most news about the service and other announcements were allready prematurely announced (which I’m not sure why they did that and still included that old info). The Animal Crossing tease was great and it actually saved this Direct a lot of points but it was just a blank tease at best. New updates are cool, the smash console was great (i predicted it) but a lot of lame filler, old info and mediocre announcements .
That online service is still looking like crap and nothing announced is diverging any thoughts away from that. Again, most info was old and lame… then they have the audacity to tell us to wait even longer for more information… Like, “Bitch what?”… You had a huge delay and years to develop this thing and this is what you come out with?? Still forcing that stupid dreaded app and an idiotic VoiceChat procedure with no other alternative, no announcements that servers will be improved or good, no modern features getting added to the Switch’s infrastructure and plenty of other concerns that were not addressed. The classic games with online quirks are kinda cool, but I don’t know if many people really want to play Mario Golf, let alone online… The attention span for these won’t last.

The market closed before the Direct started, so anything you’re seeing with the stock was unrelated. Also, Lugi’s Mansion and Animal Crossing are huge to me. Two major first party reveals and people are still grumpy.
Oh yeah, it did close. As for AC and LM, those are defiantly cool, it was really the Online service that butchered this Direct the most and my other mentions too but adding fuel to the fire.
Years to hire someone to come in and make sure the cloud save system is on par with the competition by having it for ALL games and the best they can give us is an excuse that reeks of Wii U levels of bullshit.

Pretty lackluster Direct in my opinion. The only new announcement that I liked was Luigi’s Mansion 3. Oh and that Daemon X Machina game looks interesting, but it’s more of a “wait until it’s on sale” type of game for me. And all the hype for a new Smash character and we get… a random animal from Animal Crossing? Banjo would have been a better animal to add in my opinion.
Tell us what you would have liked to see and we’ll see if any of it is realistic.
We pretty much already knew the details of the online service covered in the Direct. I only see myself using it for cloud saves. Not that interested in the classic games. With the way it is, it probably should just stay free. It’s embarrassing.
But anyways, the highlight of it for me would be the Final Fantasy games and Animal Crossing. Can’t wait to get into those.

Nintendo is launching this service in the year 2018. They’ve had quite literally more than a decade to look at what the competition is doing and still went the wrong way with it.
Of course, I didn’t expect it to be on par with Xbox Live considering the is their first real attempt at this. But, they can’t even get the basic stuff right. But hey, we’ll see what happens. Maybe the backlash will get them to use common sense.

Anything really. The Switch hasn’t gotten too much this year.
IMO we got some fantastic indies, Octopath Traveler, and some solid Splatoon DLC, and that’s pretty much it.
Kirby and Mario Tennis were pretty light on content and we got an over abundance of ports (of great games, mind, but ports all the same).
I’m glad next year looks like it’ll be bustling, and of course I’m looking forward to Smash, but the rest of this year has been strangely empty.

Eh, Not really “strange”. Most major consoles in this span are stalling for time before the games designed for that platform start to roll in. Look at the PS4 over this period and you’ll find ports of Injustice and Last of Us. There’s a gap between the console proving its concept with an initial install base and companies reacting to that install base being able to start and finish new projects.

“Rest of the year” actually referred to the entire year. Where we have had an okay Kirby game, an okay Mario Tennis game, an okay 3DS port, and a fantastic RPG from Square.
For the actual rest of the year we get a Mario Party, an extremely watered down Pokemon, and Smash Bros to end it off.
When you take out all the indie ports, third party ports, and wii u ports, this year’s list of new games is lacking, and I was hoping the Direct would remedy that with a game they were hiding from us (Reggie even hinted at that scenario).
Also, this direct showcased the online service, which is just painfully bad.
Yeah those two months until Smash are sooooo long and hard to endure! Give me a break. There are so many games coming out in the next few months, first party, third party, indie and yet none of it interests you!? I see this kind of stuff a lot and it makes me feel like there are lot of people who claim to be videogame fans who are really only interested in a few franchises. If that’s you how do you expect to be satisfied all the time? Maybe try broadening your tastes and have some variety. Can’t understand this kind of attitude.
You’re talking to someone who has built up an ungodly collection of 100+ switch games since launch day. Just because I play every game of interest doesn’t mean this year wasn’t lackluster for Nintendo compared to the last.
I think you’re mistaking my disdain for this one particular direct, which just ended up being a showcase for what to expect next year mostly, with some misplaced rage for the Switch.
This year we got a wealth of amazing games on the Switch. And that’s great.

This Direct was a joke. Why? Because Blue Toad was not even acknowledged by Nintendo. They just made him leave.

I had college just in the time of the Direct here, lol. With that out of the way, let’s see what I can say on that:
All in all, it was a very mixed Direct. They didn’t waste much time talking about SMP, Smash and Let’s Go (my worst fear), which was a good thing; But the pacing was beyond horrible. It looked like they wanted to make every single little game a big deal, and in some moments it was a chore to put it up with them. And talking about the Online in the middle of the Direct was just as off-putting as the horrible pacing.
But with this out of the way, let’s talk about games. I’ll talk about Switch games because honestly LOL 3DS:
– Luigi’s Mansion 3 was pretty good. It was a good way to start it, and I liked the looks of it. Just expecting a very, very, very big mansion with much to do.
– Animal Crossing… I’m not so hot for the franchise. Sure, it is a big Nintendo IP, and guarantees a solid 2019. But I’m not enthusiastic. And Isabelle in Smash falls into the same category.
– New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe was expected, I think. But it’s a good thing. And it launches in January.
– Yoshi… Falls into the same category as AC. Welp, more Nintendo games for 2019 are good, though.
– Town was pretty lackluster. And it worries me that GF is wasting time on this and not working on Pokémon 8th properly, leading to a delay.
– Daemon EX Machima was pretty good, too. The game gets more and more interesting. Another good 2019 title.
– Final Fantasy was unexpected. Yes, I knew about XVPE and CC, but I didn’t think that they would put WOFF, IX and most of all, VII, X/X-2 and XII. Well, S-E is paying its debt with Nintendo. I just only need XIII Trilogy and it’s all good.
So, it have good games, and even the ones I didn’t like much are, at least, solid entries for 2019 (aside for Town). But the horrible pacing with Capcom Beat ‘n’ Up Bundle (because Capcom can’t make new cool crap anymore, so let’s relaunch old games for a quick buck), Asmodee and Civilization gets in the way of it being a good Direct. And I was a bit sad about not having anything new about Fire Emblem Three Houses, Ninjala and Bayonetta 3/Metroid Prime 4 receiving the cold shoulder.
7/10, because, one more time, horrible pacing.
We’re barely a week away from paid online going live and they are STILL holding back information!? This should be another pause for concern (the lack of cloud saves for certain games because of Nintendo’s pathetic “fair play” excuse was the first) but the fanatics and suckers will turn a blind eye to this (like always.) I guess they like taking their beating from Master Nintendo. “Please, sir! May I have some more!?” Bloody sheep. Good thing I’m waiting til next year to get their paid online so maybe (hopefully) things will change and they’ll stop hiding behind the fair play excuse.
Of course, they’ve had over 5 years to have this shit all set up for cloud saves so I don’t expect things to change. As long as enough people are buying a cheap service or product from Nintendo, those motherfuckers don’t give a shit. 20 bucks a year isn’t much, sure, but if you pay for a cheap service simply because the cost is also cheap, you are just telling the provider of said service that they can keep stepping all over you.
If I didn’t love their games like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Fire Emblem, and Smash so fucking much, I swear I would have told this company to go fuck itself back in 2015 after that shitty E3 event of theirs that year and after getting my first PlayStation 4. Gotta give this company a shitload of credit for that at least.
Amazing how a handful of kiddie games keep you attached to Nintendo. But hey, you do you. And your first PlayStation 4? You have more than one?
Are you insane? No, of course not. I got 3 of them! lol Seriously, though, no. I got a PS4 Pro earlier this year and gave my first PS4 (a Darth Vader PS4) to my brother who lost his in a fire which is the one I bought him (it came with Last of Us Remastered) before buying mine in November of 2015. So technically, my joke is partly true as I did buy 3 of them over the last 2(3?) years.
That is legit what I did prior to the Switch. I ditched my Wii U and 3DS. I was seriously done with them.
Part of me is kinda glad I decided to be a bit more open minded and not completely shut them out as I do enjoy the Switch way more than the Wii U.
Though, I feel like I’d be fine even if I didn’t jump back in. I can live with missing Nintendo games and getting to the tons of other games on my Steam wishlist if it means not putting up with their shitty business practices.
I’ll give them points for going with something simple this time that’s actually useful to me rather than another gimmick because I would not have even looked in their direction if they went that route.
Nintendo reads a little too much into our complaints. “Oh they don’t like our gimmicks? We’ll just give them the most basic system ever then.” “They want better online? Let’s charge them for it and continue doing stupid shit.”
Lmao, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they have quite a few older guys in there that haven’t touched games in years and shoot down any decisions that even remotely make any sense because they don’t understand it.

Better sleep than stay awake to watch these Directs. Eventually Nintendo can just announce their products at international fairs and avoid any information on titles like ‘Cities’ (that aren’t that important on a PC too). Luigi’s Mansion is a letdown for me, never appreciated the first on GameCube, and I’m not going to buy this. Animal Crossing looks like something it can appeal to youngsters, like the new RPG from Game Freak but otherwise there was nothing really good to show. Why catalize people attention for that? Just release some trailers…

the announcement that excited me the most was Luigi’s Mansion 3. it came out of nowhere. the other titles I was interested to hear more about were Yoshi’s crafted world, Super Mario Party, Pokemon let’s go pikachu/evee and also the announcement of New super mario bros U deluxe ( although I’ll buy it if it has extra levels).
Nothing really for me.
Most excited for the Valkyria Chronicles games coming up this year.
Next year I hope we will get Bayonetta 3, but I’m afraid it won’t be until 2020 before we get any of the “now working on” games that hasn’t had any gameplay footage yet.
Maybe Pokemon will be 2019.
Looking forward to Isabelle on smash bros.
