The latest UK charts are here a little earlier than expected as they tend to arrive on Monday morning. It is still Spider-Man clinging on to number one this week and the game has fended off new releases in the form of Shadow of the Tomb Raider and NBA 2K19. However, it is interesting to see that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains incredibly popular for new and existing Nintendo Switch owners, as the game has once again climbed and now it is at number five. Also of note is that only 2% of NBA 2K19 sales were on the Nintendo Switch. Here are the best-sellers in the UK this week.

Surprised the new Tomb Raider didn’t usurp Spider-Man’s #1 spot.
It just proves how wanted Spider-Man is.
Seriously, why has Nintendo not done DLC for this? This game’s sales are practically screaming for it!
Maybe the reason is because they are working on the true Mario Kart for Nintendo Switch and this was just to recuperate some losses from the Wii U being a massive flop?
There’s one problem with your theory- Nintendo has never released more than one MK on any system, not including arcade cabinets, each one not only using a particular system’s features, but emphasizing them. Super Mario Kart introduced the series, 64 implemented 4-player racing, Super Circuit used those cables for 4-player multiplayer with each player using their own GBA, Double-Dash used the one-time hook of 2-racers-1-kart and allowed for 16-player LAN races, DS made things wireless and was the first to go online, Wii improved the online and introduced motion controls and motorcycles, 7 brought in gliding and underwater driving and the 3D effect, and 8 was the first HD MK and introduced the anti-grav mechanic. 8 Deluxe just added a few things 8 didn’t have such as a proper battle mode and utilized the new tech the Switch provided, such as single Joy-Con use and playing however, wherever, whenever.
If Ninty were to put MK9 on Switch, what could it do hardware-wise that 8 Deluxe doesn’t already? You could argue that they could make it compatible with Labo right out of the gate, but they just started doing that with 8 Deluxe so it would not be a unique feature.
At this point in time, Nintendo would be better off releasing another wave of DLC for 8 Deluxe- maybe 4 more cups with a mix of new tracks and revived courses (personally, some of my picks include 64 Wario Stadium, 3DS Shy Guy Bazaar, GBA Sunset Wilds, and Wii Moonview Highway), a host of new racers (which BETTER include E. Gadd, Diddy Kong, Birdo, Pauline, and at least one of the Broodals from Odyssey), and maybe a few more bonuses. Even if they charge $30 for it all I’d be content with buying in.
Sorry, exposition over now. But I truly believe that, given Nintendo’s trend with MK games, a new MK on Switch isn’t happening.
It wouldn’t be the first franchise they broke from the norm with, though. Don’t forget how vastly different Breath of the Wild is with a good majority of Zelda games.
