It hasn’t even been a day since the Nintendo Switch Online service launched, but hackers have already managed to get into the service’s NES emulator. In fact, hackers have already figured out how to replace NES games and add in new ones. According to kapu, who discovered this information, the service’s NES emulator is nothing more than “a quick port of an existing emulator packaged with some ROMs”. The “existing emulator” that kapu is referring to is the NES Classic Edition, which was already hacked a while ago.
Kapu said to Polygon that “for someone without prior experience in running Switch mods, getting all of it set up at first is a bit of a process, but nothing too hard with proper instructions. After an initial setup it’s insanely easy to swap out ROMs and add entirely new ones”. As for why the emulator seems to be so easy to hack, kapu says that “I have serious doubts that it points to any vulnerabilities, I’d say it’s just a side-effect of making it easy on them to add more games as they officially release more, thus making it easy for modders as well”.
That was quick.
The service hasn’t even been live for a day yet, and already someone has hacked into it. And yet, Nintendo is so concerned about hacking, they won’t let you backup and save your Splatoon or Pokémon data. Sigh…

It was very much expected I’d say, especially if all they had to do was access the new files, because it’s an emulator that was already hacked. Maybe it’s wrong to even call this a hack.

This is why Nintendo needs to provide a better service than emulation. Get the retro library built up fast with online play and start working on those third party agreements.
This is why Nintendo is strict when it comes to hackers infiltrating information and whatnots. These hackers responsible for these actions should get a permanent ban for life.

It’s a port from the classic system, you know ? the system that got red handed caught taking ROMS from illegal ROM sites, the sites Nintendo tried to sue month ago. Kinda ironic and also very sad people like you defend this weasel company.

Indeed, the whole Nes thing stinks. Ugly Menu icon and can’t delete certain ugly games from 3 party. The games also are laggy and colors are off. Mario bros on Wii U virtual console looked way better on tv and gamepad.

Nintendo needs competition FAST, because they have to much freedom in fooling around unlike tech wars like Apple vs Samsung who push the limited it tech, software for getting the seller.

Nope, I transferred a majority of them from Wii to Wii U and the others were new/exclusive to 3DS/Wii U.
The problem is, content makers want us to rent from them. Spent years and years trying to convince us it’s better to pay per use than outright own. Now, music is going that way at last through streaming. Which of course means when the music is taken down, you no listen anymore. A ridiculous way to do things, but the kids all love it because they’re told it’s cool.

Those guys are my heroes. I’ll pay them 20 dlls for hacking my switch and let me play free online gameplay.

Maybe because there wasn’t much hacking involved. The Switch was already hacked, the emulator was already known, esentially all that had to be done was move new roms into a folder on the Switch.
I mean… It was still hacked in the end. They were just “lucky” it ended up being the NES Classic
